I've been seeing a lot of cards made using different cross-stitch dies. Jennifer McGuire has been doing it for a while and it seems to have caught on, but it sure seems like a lot of work on a card...

I don’t have one yet but I’m pretty sure I’ll get one at some point. I sometimes get asked for cards for the visually impaired and a small basic design may work well for these.

Have you seen the examples where Jennifer pairs the cross stitch die with just stamping? So it looks cross stitched, but it's just ink? I feel like that's the best use for them...because I agree with you that real cross stitching would take forever. For a card. That someone might keep but likely eventually throw away.

I am not a fan of the die, though I was a hard-core cross stitcher in the day, but mamakoala that is adorable!

I used to do a lot of cross stitch. I have a ton of DMC floss. I just can't imagine doing that much work for a card though.

Adorable card!!!
I have several of the cross stitch dies available....several companies make them. I am on the fence, as a cross stitcher, I love the idea of using my love of cross stitching into a card. BUT...it is a lot of work for a card. So I go back and forth on whether it's a good use of my time or not. BUT.....I recently used the MFT tag cross stitch die (which is smaller) to cut holes out on a felt banner and cross stitch on it. I liked the look and like that the time I am spending on it will be saved.

If I'm not mistaken Jennifer McGuire talked about stitching projects she takes with her on the go - I can see this kind of cross stitching being a way to be working on a card while waiting for kids at sports practice or while traveling. I love the color and texture but I can see how it might seem like a waste of time if the recipient might throw the card away. I'm not too familiar with cross stitch dies but it might be more appealing if the cross stitch element could be removed to save, perhaps as a bookmark or something.

Yep I think I’d want to check with the recipient they weren’t just going to throw the card away before spending time on it.

Great idea about using it for a removable element. I know a lot of people I send cards to save them, but I’m sure a lot of them get tossed into the trash and it’s for that very reason I don’t think these dies are for me. Too much effort to be thrown away... but a removable bookmark is really a brilliant idea!

That is a gorgeous card. I know I wouldn’t have the time or energy to do this myself but I admire those who do.

ooh- I did not know about these dies before this thread! I love cross-stitching, although I don't do big projects- I like to do cross-stitch on perforated paper for adding elements TO cards, but this die would incorporate the cross-stitching into the card itself! Thanks for sharing!

Some of the cards I have done with lots of coloring and masking probably took just as long. Still, if I am going to go to that much trouble to make you a card, you have to keep it. Forever. Always. If I ever discover that you threw it out, we are no longer friends. If we are family, I will disown you. If we are neighbors, prepare to put your house on the market. Yeah. Maybe it's not a die for me, either.
