I’m starting to try some mixed media techniques which can be a little messy. Right now I’m using wax paper. It’s really cheap and no cleaning required. However it does tend to curl up so I’m looking for something more permanent—and flat. What has everyone tried and liked? TIA.

I have the Ranger Craft Sheet and I am looking at getting a glass mat. My craft sheet got a wrinkle it when it didn't get put away correctly and it bothers me that it has creases now. My fault, I know, but I would like something a bit more forgiving.

I have only used my glass mat for cutting, I haven’t tried it with paint or ink yet. But, I wanted to comment on this: I have the Ranger Craft Sheet and I am looking at getting a glass mat. My craft sheet got a wrinkle it when it didn't get put away correctly and it bothers me that it has creases now. My fault, I know, but I would like something a bit more forgiving. When I got my Craft Sheet I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep it from wrinkling. I bought a cheap craft mat at Tuesday Morning and adhered the Craft Sheet to the mat just with a strip of ATG around the edges. I keep it under my bigger mat on top of my desk.

Thanks!

The white Ranger craft mat has a tacky finish on the back so it sticks to my desk and so far it’s not curling. But I was using alcohol inks recently and it’s pretty stained. I knew alcohol inks would stain it and I thought I was being careful but obviously I wasn’t being careful enough. I’ve pre-ordered the glass mat but I don’t have it yet. If I were you I would opt for the glass mat. It actually has a small spot fir the white craft mat as well.

I thought in the introduction to the tonic glass mat, TH said that blending ink onto paper using the silicone mat you get less of the intense ink on the edges of the paper.

I use underpaper (Strathmore Newsprint) with a this craft sheet on top. Much cheaper than Tim Holtz's stuff. There are four in a box for $8 from Amazon! The under paper is where I clean off paint, etc. Then I have fun papers for collage when they are full of color.

That collage paper idea is good. TFS.

That collage paper idea is good. TFS. You are welcome. You can also get free newsprint paper from packages delivered to your house. Some companies use it. I never mind if it is wrinkled because that just gives it more texture.

I use a silicon pastry sheets. They’re cheaper than the scrapbook brand craft mats. I always have extra paper to the side to use up any leftover paint. And the sheet cleans up with a baby wipe or I can wash it. Just don’t use your exacto blade on it. 🤣 yeah, I’ve done that. More than once. If I could find a gridded glass mat in the size of my silicon sheet I’d switch.

I love my Tim Holtz glass media mat. I've had a couple of different teflon mats over the years, but the new glass media one is my favorite by far.

You could also use the glass top coffee table, if your wife is gone ... better get it cleaned up before she gets back tho.

Also, the watercolor side is great. The ink seems to "stick" instead of just beading up when I smush my little distress pads down in the squares.

I keep the glass mat on my PL table instead.

My fault, I know, but I would like something a bit more forgiving. You can iron the sheets and the wrinkles will smooth out.

I'm loving my Tonic/TH Glass Media Mat. I also have the white Tonic craft mat but haven't used it all since I got the glass.

I use a Heidi Swapp craft mat. But if I'm doing something small, I use my homemade palette. I just laminated a white piece of cardstock. Works beautifully!
