It is littering and annoying!
I am so sick of people putting a flyer for their lawn business or other home based business in a Ziplock baggie along with a handful of rocks/pebbles and then tossing it in my driveway!
All it does is make me p.o.ed that I have bend over and pick up your litter and throw it away and ensure I would never hire you to cut my lawn even if you owned the only lawn mower in town.
Is this a regional thing, or do other places have people that do this?

i have never heard of that before!!
i gather it's because it's too expensive to pay someone to deliver a flyer each house and put it in the mailbox? how long are your driveways?
so people just drive down the road chucking ziploc bags in driveways? i would pissed and yes, it is littering.

You can't put it in the mailbox unless it goes through the postal service. We've gotten flyers stuck in the door or left hanging on the door knob, but never anything like the OP. That would annoy me and make me wonder why anyone would think that was a good idea.

I wonder why people think such strange things are good advertising. My friend wanted to start a mailing list with cell #s the way you would with email. I said we cannot do that! You can unsubscribe from an email list but there’s no way to remove yourself from a text list.

If the business had an actual store front, I would be so inclined to go collect about 50 of those suckers from driveways and then dump all of the rocks inside their front door.

These are not large estates with long driveways. The driveways are at most the length of 2 cars.
Glad to know I'm not just being pissy. Have had one at our house already this spring and came to my parent's house and found one on their driveway.

It happens here, too. I just take the rocks and toss them into the yard with the rest of the gravel, and immediately toss the business card in the trash. It is annoying. (I seem to recall that one of them was for an Avon salesperson- so they're not all landscape related. but at least gravel / landscaping makes sense, lol)
ETA: maybe one of the reasons people do it is because a lot of people have security screen doors, so you can't really stick something 'between' the doors? not sure. More likely, they're lazy and don't want to get out of their car.

The ones we get are on those stupid wires that stick in the ground with a flag on it. Looks like it is from a utility company but it is advertising. Seems expensive to me.. and in your case Ziplock bags can start costing a pretty penny if they are giving each house one... We also get them rubber-banded to the door.

Some businesses here will solicit by hanging their flier in a plastic bag from the flag on your mailbox. I find that mildly annoying. I would be really aggravated by having to pick it up out of my driveway.

Happens to me, too. I get pissed because I obviously don't need a gardener, the lawn was just mowed!

I've never had that happen here. I'd be seriously annoyed! The flyers that the pizza and Chinese restaurants, and even some churches, leave on my door are bad enough. I really hate when flyers are left on my windshield, too.

Happens where I live. And it’s usually landscaping type companies, hence the stones and/or mulch in the bag. And yes, it pisses me off.

flyers are left on my windshield, too. this seems to happen a lot in the parking lot at Walmart, or the grocery store- and it leads to a lot of littering, because people usually just toss them directly onto the ground before pulling out of their parking space. (it seems like those flyers are typically for church-related things, too... so the littering in that case is kinda extra-ironic.)

Happens here as well although I'm seeing less of it. At least that doesn't bother me as much as the scammers who paint your curb without asking and then demand payment.

we used to get that a lot too. so tacky and cheesy but i guess they didn't want their precious flyers flying away from the porch. and since it's illegal to stick that stuff in the mailbox, i guess they had to get creative by using the rocks.
personally, i make a mental note NEVER to do business with anyone who spams my doorway.

Since I have a few vocal neighbors.....
I toss the flyer in the street. It will end up on one if the perfect lawns and we will never see that flyer again.
I only do this with the "pro" people. The little kids that leave homemade flyers, well those you aw over while tossing.

Have never come across that before and it would annoy me as well. I do get flyers left in my letterbox.

I live in a city that wants to be litter free. The city provides doorknob hangers basically saying no advertising is to be left and if they do they will be reported. It’s about 95 percent effective.
If I’m in a bad mood - I report the business, if I’m in a good mood - I just toss the advertising. There
I recently ‘caught’ a local realtor leaving a flier on our door. Mentioned the door hanger and he gave me a snippy answer and was rude. A few days later got flowers and an apology note. The guy forgot that our family business and their business often work together. I was underwhelmed with his apology.

I think I would be calling the company that threw their advertising/litter on my driveway or in my yard and telling them that because of their 'advertising' method there is no way in hell I would ever use their business. I may not be so polite, depending on my mood.

We have drought resistant landscaping so lots of rocks. I caught one of those companies stealing rocks from my yard! They don’t advertise in my neighborhood anymore. It takes a lot...A LOT to get me to contact a company to complain about something. The theft set me off.

I’ve never heard of that one. We get the flyers stuck in the mailbox flag or the political ones that get hung on the storm door handle with a rubber band but that’s about it. It would annoy me to find a bag of rocks with a flyer or business card in it thrown in my driveway, and I agree it would really make me NOT want to hire them! There is enough plastic trash blowing around in my neighborhood that flies out of garbage trucks as it is.
