I'm a red head and noticed that many avatars have their hair color as red. How many are here? Anyone have sensitivity to thermal pain or need more medication for sedation? Anyone else with curious sensitivities or allergies?
I do need more medication and can tolerate a high-level of pain. I am allergic to bee glue (propylis) found in Burt's bee lip balm and many cosmetics. Also can not tolerate Accuvue contacts.

I'm a redhead! I'm sensitive to thermal pain and need higher doses of meds. It always irritates me when a doctor starts me at the lowest dose of a new medication, because I know it's not going to work.

I'm naturally a strawberry blonde, so almost as cool as you full red heads. I burn easily, have red freckles, super sensitive skin, resistant to pain meds. yay, lol. never been sedated so I don't know about that.

I am not, but as a nurse I always found it interesting that redheads would either need a LOT of pain medication or else they'd be so sensitive they could barely tolerate anything. Not a lot of middle ground!

I am a redhead, and I can tolerate pain. However, I am a "bleeder".

I'm a redhead. Pain isn't my favorite, and not sure about sedation and heavy pain killers.

I'm a strawberry blond going redder as I age. I have very fair skin and I'm allergic to most metals. My DH just thinks it's because I just want to be adorned in gold. I haven't noticed anything about needing more medication or being able to tolerate more pain. I'll have to pay more attention to that.
ETA: after reading other responses, I remembered more. I did have trouble with my epidural while in labor with DD. They couldn't get enough drug in me. I can't use any Mary Kay products and lots of detergents and laundry products will bother me too.

I am definitely a bleeder. I have only been put under once and I don't think I needed any more than usual. I have a pretty high tolerance of pain. Only took two doses of pain meds after my c-section and didn't take any after my gall bladder surgeries. No unusual allergies.

I am a strawberry blonde, need more pain meds and anaesthetic than most and major bleeder. My teenage son is a flaming redhead and also a major bleeder, resistant to anaesthetic and pain meds, gets sick from the sun and has a sun allergy. He also has a pretty high pain tolerance.

I'm a redhead. No freckles, but pale and will sunburn at the drop of a hat. I'm also resistant to pain meds and need more/stronger stuff, and just I love the doctors that look at me like I'm a drug seeker when I tell them that.

I WAS a natural red head, now I'm going Gray naturally. Lookin' like a calico cat,lol Sun sensitive, pretty sure I need more anesthesia, I remember waking up during eye surgery, couldn't talk, but I could feel what they were doing.Ugh!! Did natural childbirth for both of my kids. Being a red head was always fun!;

I am a natural auburn. Woke up during my tonsillectomy at 22 years of age, and also felt pain during insertion of bilateral iliac stents a few years ago.

I'm a very fair, green-eyed redhead. I've been under anaesthesia three times in my life and have woken up in the middle each time and remembered what happened and what was said. Horrific.
I need a lot more Novocaine when I have dental work. My brother is auburn and it's the same thing for him. My younger sister who is a redhead refuses any dental work because of the pain.

I've been a redhead for so long, I can't remember what my natural color is! Does that count?
I'm envious of you natural redheads!

I was until I started going gray. Now I still am thanks to Clairol. I'm pale, freckled, blue eyed and very sun sensitive. I don't go in the sun if I can avoid it. And here I am in sunny south Florida!
I can stand pain until I need 3 pills to your 2.

I'm a natural redhead.
I have a very high pain tolerance, but do seem to require more anesthesia than average.

My mom is, and she has a terrible time with anesthetic. Also a blessed- she had an emergency hysterectomy after my sister was born, she was not supposed to have any more kids due to that but had an oops baby.
I worry a bit for my redheaded oldest, but so far, so good- she just gets loopier than most when she has surgery.

I'm also a red head, although my hair has gotten darker as I get older. I have very pale skin and a light spattering of freckles and burn even with sunscreen. I use SPF 70, which DH calls my "moon block."
I think I have a high tolerance for pain, until I don't, if that makes sense. I am very sensitive to hot and cold as well.I actually have a low tolerance for most meds, although there are a few that I need a higher dosage for. I'm allergic to everything and often break out in hives or have the ".5% of the population" reactions that few people have.
When I had my DD, I had a VBAC and the OR team had to be in the hospital when they broke my water. So the anesthesiologist hung out in my room to kill time, as I was the only patient there for a while. He told me that red heads are bleeders and have "unique" anesthesia needs. But I was good with the both epidurals that I had, although I was allergic to something in the one with DS and broke out in hives and swelled up like a balloon. That makes for great first day of life pictures--not!

I have auburn hair. I have a pretty high pain tolerance and don't like taking pain meds because they make me so loopy. I'm pretty sensitive to anesthesia and it usually takes a while to get me woken up.

I found that grey took longer to show up on me that my other friends the same age. Lots of freckles, burn easily, and peel. Low pain tolerance.

After longing to have lovely red hair all my life, I have had some shade of red since I started covering my grey. I don't think I'll ever change it to my natural color again. I hope this counts...imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

I'm a redhead (hence, my username) and I have an extremely high pain tolerance. I require lots of extra anesthesia: when I had my dd, the doc came out loaded with the epidural, saw me, and then yelled at the nurse for not telling him I was a redhead. He then returned with a more heavily loaded dosage. Anytime I've had surgical work done, the docs have added an additional anti-nausea drug because I react very badly to pain meds.
I'm allergic to lots of things, mainly additives in laundry detergents (any colors or fragrances) and lots of soaps. Even Almay hypoallergenic makeup made me break out. I've had chicken pox three times even though conventional wisdom says you can only get it once. (I broke out each time my kids got the chickenpox vaccine). I've got the proverbial hot temper and blush so easily. I can sunburn within 15 minutes if I forget to apply sunscreen.
My body temp is lower than normal. If I have a medical issue, I can tell the doctor or dentist precisely where the difficulty is and exactly what it feels like. My dentist calls me the Princess and the Pea because I am so precise. She says it makes it easier to work on me, believe it or not.
My great great grandfather was a redhead but my kids are blondes. My coloring doesn't match anybody else in my family. And the older I get, the more I love being a redhead.

I had auburn hair, green eyes, and plenty of freckles. I am allergic to nickle but never really noticed any issues with pain or meds.
I don't have a quick temper and never have...but that is a stereotype that is often associated with redheads. It has always bothered me that some people make that assumption based just on hair color.

I was a redhead. I started getting gray hair in my early 30s. I have a very high pain tolerance and I haven't found anything that helped through two broken wrists, RSD, or coming off prednisone. Thankfully, after 5 years of daily migraines, we did finally find something that helped those. i am allergic to a bunch of things. I don't have a temper as I tend to let a lot of things go by. But, when I've had enough, it will be known, plus all the other things that I've let go by will be known.

I'm a very dark auburn/red. Looks dark brown but red in the sun. I have freckles everywhere, blue eyes, sun sensitive, sensitive skin, high pain tolerance and need a ton of anesthetics/pain meds. I'm allergic to pine needles, penicillin, and raspberry coconut bars.
Dd is a strawberry blond, but has become darker. Blue eyes, a few freckles, but pale skin and extremely sensitive to pain and sunlight. Allergic to penicillin.

Blue eyed redhead here. I'm allergic to bell peppers and soy, have NO tolerance for pain meds (which is nice, doesn't take much to knock me out), and of course, burn like crazy when exposed to sunlight. Also really sensitive to light in general, tend to wear sunglasses almost constantly when I'm outside.

I'm a redhead with blue eyes. I'm not sure about pain tolerance, but I did bleed quite a bit with my c-sections. I didn't have much tolerance for Percocet, not sure if that is related to being a redhead or not.
