I was looking at the Gina K stamp sets that has coordinating foil sets and they were over $30 Canadian for just the stamp set...it is a 5' X 5.5' set. It seems that Altenew stamp sets (4 x 6) cost ~$20-25 CAD while their bigger stamp sets 6 x 8 are over $35 Canadian. Other brands like Concord and 9th, the Ton, Gina K., and Technique Tuesday are pretty pricey too. I know our Canadian dollar is not good compared to the American dollar but it is still ridiculous how much stamps are costing now. I want these small companies to stay in business and I love their stamps and want to support them, but it is hard to do when their prices are so high. Does anybody else feels this way?

100%! There is only one scrapbooking store that is "relatively" close to me and I do everything I can to support them, but sometimes I simply cannot justify the cost of stamp sets not to mention a lot of other products! I tend to do most of my shopping online at Simon Says Stamp. I know a lot of peas aren't crazy about them because of their slow shipping, but Canadians really don't have a lot of options and I find SSS's prices to be decent. A big bonus too is that I have never had an issue with customs and duty. I'd love to try some other online stores, but I find shipping costs to be higher and I don't know how the packages would get through customs.
I'm also only an hour away from the US border and DH and I go over to shop a couple of times a year. In fact we're going over for a few days at the beginning of May. There is an AWESOME scrapbooking store that I go to every time we're there, not to mention a great Joanns and Hobby Lobby, so I tend to stock up when I can. In fact, I'm picking up a ream of Neenah solar white cardstock because the cost to get it Canada is crazy compared to the US. I contacted the store and they are ordering me a ream so I can pick it up when I'm there.

By the time I work in the cost of exchange and shipping, I find that the price here in Canada (my LSS has a good selection of stamps) is usually not that much different, and I so appreciate being able to see the product in person that I'm willing to give them a few $$ more to keep my LSS afloat. I do certainly watch for US sales because then you can't beat ordering online.

That's great that you can do that. I live 5-6 hours away from the border so it is not as easy to go to the US to shop. I agree that ordering from SSS is the best price-wise for Canadians because shipping is cheaper than most other online stores and no customs fees. I have 3 local LSS but the stamp sets are pricey.

Would it be economical to have friends and family Purchase in US and send to you?
I was looking into this for stamps made in France. .

Sure, but you need to have friends/family in the US.

And don’t you usually have to pay higher shipping as well? Sucks.

Ok Canadians. I went to scrapfest on Friday night. Found a new online scrappy store that carries altenew and Concord and 9th plus Gina k. Was very reasonable. The turnabout stamps were $26. I don't know about their shipping prices but they have a rewards program. Its out of Sudbury. Called. Worldwide scrapbooking supplies .com. I bought a lot of stuff from their booth. The lady that owned it was super nice. She had her husband doing the check out. He was really nice too. Definitely out of his element but he was a trouper.
Ok it's free shipping at $75. And I did the exchange on Simon's pricing on turnabout stamps works out to be very close. She is charging $1 more. But with fluctuations in dollar I get that.
