Although I suppose the question isn't limited to Cadillac owners..... We just bought a used Cadillac SRX last night, they're detailing it and finishing the paperwork and will drop it off on Monday. The dealer told us it comes with 3 months trial of both OnStar and XM radio. Can anyone tell me what those services cost after the trial ends and whether the OnStar service is worth it? I'm not sure what features it offer that we need, my biggest concern is that Cadillacs no longer come with a spare tire, not even a donut, just a small air compressor in case you need to re-inflate a flat tire (which is great unless your tire has a blow out or a large enough hole that it won't hold air). But I'm not sure if it would just be more economical to get AAA? Thanks for any input!

I hope you like your SRX better then me! I want to get rid of mine. It SUCKS on gas mil. and I drive 30 miles 1 way every day. We had the trial onstar, and never renewed it. I would have loved to have had XM radio though!

What year is your SRX? Do you have the AWD? What kind of gas mileage are you getting? It should average around 16 or 17 city, and thats still better then I'm getting with my 2004 Xterra. We probably won't renew the OnStar unless someone can give me a really compelling reason to do so (and the price is right), but I might buy the BF the XM subscription as a Christmas present or something.

I think all the SRX's have AWD, don't they? I'm getting about 18, and that's not city driving. I think mine is 2009? can't remember.

I think it's around $200 a year? Totally worth it TO ME for the safety/comfort it gives. Automatic connection to an operator if the airbags deploy, remote diagnostics if a light comes on and you want to know if you need to go directly in for service or if it can wait, doors unlocked if you lock your keys in the car, roadside assistance, etc.
May not be worth it to somebody who can just call a spouse for a ride or spare key, or who doesn't travel alone a lot, or who already has AAA or something like that. I'm a single female who lives alone and almost always drive alone, and if I have a problem it could be a while before I could find somebody to come help me out. So I'd have to make a choice between AAA or OnStar anyway. The OnStar person was awesome when I was in an accident about 2 years ago. Very comforting.

No, they're not AWD by default, all of the models are actually FWD as a standard (which I think is kinda dumb for a crossover SUV). Do you have a little '4' on the back next to the 'SRX'? That's the mark for the AWD, otherwise, it's FWD. Thanks for your input Cindy, while 19 isn't great, it's probably better than we were getting on the 2000 Saturn wagon, plus the Cadillac is loaded with features that I'm ready to enjoy

Thanks *KAS*, I agree with you, if it was for me, I might get the OnStar as well, but the SRX is for the BF, so for him $200 a year might be a little steep.

I have a Ford so no OnStar for me but mine came with a 3 month trial for Sirius radio. I loved it but it was I think $15 per month to subscribe. Not in my budget so I let it drop. I found out that it's best to let it drop. They then start offering much lower prices to get you back. I got an offer for 6 months for $25 and decided to take it. I have one more week left then I'll cancel the service and wait until they offer it at a low rate again before subscribing again.

I have had On-Star since it first became available and it is worth every single penny (to me).
Once I was driving and it was raining really hard. All of a sudden a "check light" came on the dash. All I did was hit the On-Star button and thy put me thru to a computer mechanic. They knew my gps location and ran a diagnostic test of the car, while I was driving. Found out that the heavy rain had hit a sensor area inside the wheel well. I was told to find a place to let the car sit for a few moments, turned off (they even told me which exit and which way to turn). I did this. When I restarted the car, about 5 minutes later THEY called ME and asked if the check light was now off and did another diagnostic check. I was about 300 miles away from home while I was on this trip.
I have locked my keys in the car a few times, so the easy call to unlock is wonderful. I also like it that "someone" knows where I am, when I am driving, as I live alone. The peace of mind that this gives my extended family is worth the $.

We bought a car with a Sirius XM radio, and I just signed up for 6 months for something like $30. I think when dh and I looked at their pricing previously, the plan we looked at was about $15/month. We'll see what we end up paying after this 6 months is over.

No..I know my SRX is AWD. I don't have to look. ha. That's one of the reasons we bought it. I was sick of getting stuck in the winter. I must say, I NEVER got stuck once the last 3 winters I have had it. I just really really hate the gas mileage, and honestly the perks of the Cadillac haven't really been any better then other upgraded cars. We are looking at trading it in before this winter.

We have XM but I think that's Sirius now too. Or vice versa. I love it but you do have to play the price game. My pilot came with a three month trial. When it first expired, they wanted $20 a month. I decided no. They sent me an offer for $30 for six months. I was going to order but just hadn't had time to do it. I got another offer for $30 for the year.

I don't get on star. I do renew XM radio. The deluxe package is about $200/ year but you can talk them down. I just renewed mine for a year and paid $143 including taxes, etc...

Hate the radio, 200 stations of nothing or repeats. And traffic stations for nowhere near us, sorry but I have no interest in traffic in CA.
Onstar. Was okay but creepy to me and started making me very paranoid.

I just used the Onstar emergency service yesterday; I had happened upon an accident right after it happened and only one person had stopped. I told Onstar to send an ambulance to my location, and went to help the people. The other person who was talking to 911 was trying to describe where they were, but I knew Onstar could tell them exactly where my vehicle was. A few minutes later Onstar called me to make sure everything was OK. Will absolutely renew next year.

Other car brands do not contain a spare, but are equipped with "run flat tires". They will go 20--25 miles after they are flat. That's what DH has on his car.

Love my OnStar oh the places we will go. I have the diagnostic as well as turn by turn navigation. They are awesome. I also have SiriusXM the two companies are merged but separate it depends on which brand car you own. I just got 1 year for 3 different units for less than $9.00 a month for the deluxe you can listen on the internet or your phone or in your car package. We do a fair amount of travelling and I do a lot by myself. Love both features. I found with the XM you have to wait them out and they will eventually offer you a good deal.

We have a 13 Equinox that came with the onStar and XM for 6 months. We kept the onStar for a year as we had teen drivers. The on star guy gave me a deal $120 for the year. Well I thought it included navigation, but found out the hard way when my kids were lost somewhere. It's $9.99/mo extra. I ended up paying it while they figured out their way around the cities. The next car I bought the Nav pkg so dropped onStar. Kids take that car now. One nice thing about onStar was the remote start app. I have remote starts on both my vehicles. I could start my car from inside the bowels of the ice rink using the app (notorious for bad cell coverage) and get into a toasty warm car.
We did end up buying XM for the Equinox. There are stations that we enjoy and it comes in handy for those long drives through rural Wisconsin and Upper Michigan where radio stations are not to my liking. Plus DH can catch his teams on the sports channels while we are traveling. We bought a Nissan Altima with XM about 6 months later. It only had 3 mos XM and I never got around to renewing it. They send me deals every so often. If you like XM, let it expire a few months then wait for a good deal.

I have both XM and ONSTAR and I am pretty happy with both. They will drop the price for you like the cable company does. I used my ONSTAR when I had my last accident. They were on air before my car stopped skidding i think. They called the police, an ambulance and accessed my last number called to notify a friend because I couldn't remember my sons's phone numbers. I was at fault because I pulled out in front of a car I overlooked. I skidded down a dirt road and was trapped in my car. Nobody at the scene even came to my car to see if I was okay. The had to use the jaws of life to get me out. The other driver drove away unharmed. I can't imagine what would have happened without ONSTAR because my cell phone was in my trunk with my purse.

Hated Onstar, expensive and not worth it imo. We had it years ago and truck died, I think they were supposed to diagnose and couldn't and they'd only get us a tow locally. I really can't remember the whole thing as it was a long time ago, but we decided their service wasn't worth the money.
Sirius XM has great deals if you ignore their first couple. I think we have the $30 for 6 months, but now i'm thinking we'll be looking for the $30 for 12 months I just saw here, lol. Love XM, love the lack of commercials as well as not losing the stations when you drive out of the area.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think we'll probably let the OnStar go after the trial, but many of you made good suggestions on getting XM radio for a better price and I appreciate those. XM is a splurge, but I think it might make a nice gift if I can get it for cheaper than $200 a year

I have a few of the channels programmed and check once in a while. In addition to doing the constantly lowering prices to get me to subscribe, they turn it on for about 2 weeks once a quarter to get me hooked. I listen to it like crazy during those times, but I can't bring myself to pay for radio.

I just bought an SRX too! I love it. I love everything about it. It would be nice if it got better gas mileage and I could go back to regular unleaded- but it wasn't a deal breaker, for me. I drove a minivan for almost 10 years (and loved it). I wanted a little luxury this time, though. We had the free 3 month trial of XM and started getting calls and letters almost immediately about subscribing- and though I can't remember exact numbers, I do remember thinking ' You have to be kidding'. Finally my husband told them 'Please stop. We are not extending the 3 months.' and they cut us off, well before the 'free trial' ended. Not impressed with it when I had it, not impressed with their customer service people either. On Star- I never used it. I have AAA, so I would not pay for OnStar too.

Dammit, does this thing require premium gas? Why don't dealers tell you stuff like that?!?!!? Shoulda bought the VW Tiguan

I've read that you can use regular unleaded in it, but the performance will suffer. Once in awhile- fine, but all the time and you'll notice a difference. It didn't thrill me either, but I'm an around-town driver, not a daily commuter so I didn't think it would be a big deal. I will say, when we took it on a road trip this summer, the highway mileage was not bad- and it rides like a total dream. DH has to go on a road trip for work in a few days and he's taking it because it was such a great ride. I'll have to try not to cry when he leaves with it. Pretty car. I'll miss it.
