Why do people bring their PETS to a place where there are crowds and food?
Why?
Why do they feel like the giant sign that says pets not allow doesn't apply to them?
Btw if a store employee asks if you have a service animal, the store can be fined $5 grand or more. Probably from a lawsuit brought by a comfort pet owner.

Because they're special snowflakes and rules don't apply to them.
And I thought they could ask if the animal is a service animals and what it's job was, but they couldn't ask about the owners disability. I'd have to look it up though to be sure.

I think they can ask what service the dog/animal provides.
I've noticed that within the last 2 or 3 months, many stores have put up very large signs saying that pets were not allowed in the store. Big, huge signs that stand just inside the doors right in the middle of the aisle-way so it can't be missed.

I think it is rude and inappropriate. Pets also do not belong in offices.

Last weekend, my family and I were at a restaurant that we frequent very often. And wouldn't you know that there was a lady there with her little doggy. And the little doggy was sitting on one of the actual seats that a patron would use! People have lost all common sense.

I am completely baffled by the places where I see dogs. Sitting in the laps of ladies getting a mani/pedi, at the tile store (running loose I might add), and stuffed in people's bags at school events. I get the comfort animal thing, I really do, but what if I am uncomfortable with your pet that you refuse to control with regard to barking, lunging, and general mischief (DO.NOT.LICK.ME.DOG!). We've made people so entitled that now we can't even control the monster we've created.

I am seeing more and more pets in all the stores in my area. (Lots of pocket pets.) I think some people try to justify any dog as a service pet and I'm not crazy about it.
There's a big discussion in the newspaper about allowing dogs (any dogs, not just service animals) in restaurants with outdoor seating. If I wanted to eat next to a dog I would have one of my own!

Thankfully Costco finally put up signs allowing service dogs only. Costco was busy enough but to have all those dogs in there to was crazy.

I don’t get it though. Aren’t service dogs required to be wearing special vests that show they are service animals and sets them apart from any ol’ dog in a purse or baby seat in a shopping cart?

From the ADA websiteQ7. What questions can a covered entity's employees ask to determine if a dog is a service animal? A. In situations where it is not obvious that the dog is a service animal, staff may ask only two specific questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff are not allowed to request any documentation for the dog, require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the person's disability. A person can be asked if their dog is a service animal. They cannot be asked to prove it or to show documentation. In many states, it is now illegal to falsely represent a pet as a service animal. We have a yellow lab in training to be a therapy dog (I'm studying for my portion of the test now!) Her vest says just that. I often have her with me when I'm out and about, but I'm really hesitant to ask if she's welcome in new places because I feel like businesses just say yes without realizing that she doesn't meet ADA guidelines for access. I'll explain it, but I can tell employees really don't understand. So we stick to a few restaurants with outside service, the Apple Store, pet stores, and Lowe's. She's well known at these places and has been trained to sit by my side or crawl under the table (such as at a restaurant with outside seating.) When I bought my new iPad, she was in the store for about 2 hours napping under the table. It was busy enough that no one knew she was there because she was hidden behind everyone's legs.

Or what about those of us who are allergic to dogs? The pet owners don't seem to consider this.

Last summer I was at the grocery store picking out cherries. There was a lady next to me with a dog in her arms picking through the cherries too. I looked at her and said......you’ve got to be kidding me, please get your dog away from the produce. She was with a man, he told her I told you it’s not appropriate to have your dog in the store.
I go to a large farmers market during the summer. It had become very hectic with people bringing their dogs. It was horrible to weave your way through the maze of leashes. Well, two people were bitten by dogs last year so the city has now banned dogs.
I love my dog but he doesn’t go shopping with me.

I am not a dog lover and I do not think dogs ( or other animals) belong in stores. My coworker takes her dog everywhere. Restaurants, Home Depot, fabric store, department store, Bible study at church. But, she says, everybody LOVES Jasper and he’s so perfect ...

I love my two dogs and I’m a member of a local dog owners FB page. I just had an argument with a couple of people last week because an extremely busy outlet mall only allows small dogs in strollers. They are outraged that this could be illegal to discriminate against larger dogs!! I really think their brain capacity is on par with their fur babies. Their reasoning was, the dog is part of the family and therefore it should be able to accompany them everywhere.
As I said, I adore my dogs, but I wouldn’t take them shopping, into a restaurant or a busy public place. They would probably do their business on the floor, get their leash tangled around someone’s legs, or growl at another dog. I fully understand some people don’t like dogs and should not have to endure them in an inappropriate place.

Wow, I'm so glad this trend hasn't hit my area. Sure, there are pet friendly stores that leave a bowl of water outside, but I don't actually bring the dog inside! I don't think I've ever seen a dog in a grocery store or inside a restaurant. Outside seating, yes. I wonder if it's an east coast thing.
On a side note, we went to my son's glee concert last week and one of the students has a service dog (in training). The dog got more applause than the singers, LOL. He was so adorable up there - he's still got a lot of puppy in him and is obviously still a work in progress. He didn't want to leave the stage.

There is a corner market down the street from me. It's a very small, tight market. They make and sell small pizzas. One of the employees brings his dog to work with him. The dog is behind the counter. They are lucky somebody hasn't called the health department.
My youngest daughter is beyond scared of dogs. She was knocked down a set of concrete steps by a boxer. She was never crazy about dogs before that incident but now she is terrified of dogs. Terrified isn't a strong enough word. Her older sister plays soccer and it irks me when people feel entitled to bring their dog to the game. There are signs that state "no dogs" but they are ignored. About every third game there is some kind of altercation between dogs. It ranges from growling to outright dog fights. It's hard for us to find a place to set up our chairs because she refuses to sit next to someone with a dog. There have been times when we have to move because someone with a dog comes and sits next to us. It has become such a hassle that she doesn't even want to go to the games to watch her sister.
Why, oh why, do people bring dogs to soccer games (or any sporting event). It's not like they watch the game!
I have to be honest. When I was a child I was bitten by a "friendly" dog. I get a little nervous around large dogs but I don't show it.
ETA: The league president sends an email at the beginning of the season with location information, parking instructions. He includes park rules which covers the no dog rule.

Well-behaved dogs (quietly lying motionless at owner's feet) at restaurants with outdoor seating are fine by me. I don't want to see dogs inside a restaurant. And I really don't want to see dogs losing their shit inside Michael's like I did last week. Owner happily oblivious to dog's barking. They just have no idea how stressful these types of environments can be for dogs, unless they are trained to be there. Between that and the crappy pop music playing, I had to put on my wireless earbuds for a little peace.
Newtown has become kind of a mecca for therapy dogs in training since Sandy Hook, so it's not unusual to see them out and about town, but we really don't see a lot of them in stores and restaurants, but often at the schools and events around town.
