Should I start watching the first season? I hear a lot of people like it, and I do like "supernatural" type stuff, but I'm thinking it may just be corny. Any reviews to share?

It's not at all corny, it's a drama. I love it and would definitely start from the beginning. If you have a problem with violence and gore, don't watch it.

You must watch season 1!!! The first episode was amazing, especially if you see the black and white version too! It introduces the major characters and shows how they become so close!

You definitely have to start from the beginning to have any prayer of following it. It's not corny at all, but it is pretty gory. So if that bothers you, skip it.

I jumped in season 4 without watching anything before and it was still good, I just didn't know any backstory. I think it would be beter if you started with season 1, but with less than a month until this season starts, you might have to drive for a while

...but it is pretty gory. So if that bothers you, skip it. Nah, just close your eyes when there's a close-up of a "Walker" feasting on someone's intestines, or a live human kicking a zombie's face in. They love their close ups, that show. And drippy, goopy props. It only took me two seasons to open my eyes.

Definitely start with episode 1. I made my mom watch it even though she was completely against it b/ c she thought it was just a show about zombies. It is so much more than that, but you'll only see that if You start from the beginning. She immediately got hooked and said, "the zombies are almost background/secondary compared to the plot with the characters!".
Give it a try - it's a great show!

I refused to watch it until a couple of months ago because I figured it was another stupid show. Boy was I wrong! I started watching the very beginning on Netflix on a fluke and now it is one of my favorite shows. I cannot wait till the new season starts in October!

Yep definitely want to watch from the beginning and if you have a dvr just record the new season so you can catch up in case you don't get thru all 4 seasons by the season 5 premiere. PP is so right it is about way more than just zombies, they are almost secondary in some ways if you kwim lol.

There is one thing the people behind the Walking Dead have said. If you can't handle with what happens in the first episode, than don't watch the rest. There is a scene in there that turns off people. If they think that will not ever happen again, they are wrong. Zombies don't care who they go after.

I think there's a lot more gory zombie action in the first season and from then on it's character development & relationships, which is what makes it a great show. It's true - the zombie stuff is secondary and the plotline is what I tune in for. You won't be disappointed.

Yes! Start with season 1 like everyone else said. My favorite season was 4. I thought season 3 kinda sucked my DH thinks I'm crazy for saying that.
On side note- I'm a huge Supernatural fan...we just finished season 9 and I wasn't impressed really. I think I'm kinda over the whol Angel/ demon thing.

I do have to say I am over the zombie noise all the time and think they could turn it down a bit. I also become annoyed when a zombie sneaks up on someone, like within biting range, when the zombies never shut up and are not quiet...except the one that sneaks up...and then he makes noise constantly until killed.

I only got halfway through the first episode. Just the suspense of knowing a "walker" was about to pop out was too much for me. LOL I have to cover my eyes when they do scenes with the white walkers in GoT, too.

You HAVE to watch this show so that you know what to do when the zombie apocalypse happens. Just kidding.
It's my favorite show I started watching right before season three I think. I was out of work with a knee injury and they had on a marathon right before the new season started and I got hooked. I don't usually like gore but this show is more than that.
