Hi All,
I'm living in a new place and would like to meet some scrapping friends AND to actually scrapbook regularly. Has anyone ever organized an event where people come together regularly to scrap? I don't want to make any money or run a crop, but just get together with folks. I think I remember someone hosting at a local Michaels or Hobby Lobby. That might be something to look into.
Also, I'm in North Jersey, so if anyone in the NJ/NY area wants to scrap together, let me know!

I hope you find a place to play and that you can find some new friends to join you there. I would definitely ask at the local craft stores if you could come into their classroom on a regular basis to scrap. That would probably be free. And if you have a way of letting others know that you will be there on a regular basis--say every Thursday evening--you may find other crafters want to join you. And what better way to meet crafty people than in a craft store?
A group of friends in our community rents the club room at a local Seniors' Recreation Centre on a regular basis. BYOlunch, and supper is pot luck or they go to a local restaurant for supper. They take turns paying the hall rental fee. But they were friends before they were scrapbook buddies, so a lot easier to set something up.
Do you know of any Stampin Up or Close to My Heart reps in the area? Our rep used to host a monthly crop in her basement. No pressure to buy supplies from her, but we often did. She also hosted a 10 for 10 club where we each took a turn being the hostess and getting the hostess rewards, and committed to purchasing a specific amount of product per month.

I have organized all kinds of crops and I go to crops regularly. Most of the crops I go to have been held at churches. If you have a church, you can see if they would allow you to start a scrapbook ministry. Then you can start by posting it in the church bulletin and getting members to invite friends. Almost every crop I go to is Fri from 5-9 or so, leave your stuff, and come back Saturday. They are no frills for the most part.
Sometimes your local library will have a meeting room you can reserve for one Sat a month. Then you can post it on the library events calendar. I guess Michaels or Hobby Lobby would work but they close by 9 and the classrooms aren't that big, so only a few of you could scrap with a whole table.
The other thing, as grammadee said, you can do is find out if any Close to my Heart or CM reps hold crops in your area and get yourself signed up. You will meet other scrappers and find out by word of mouth what's going on and who might crop with you.

I'm in CT. I found a local RefuPea here on the board who introduced me to her scrapping group, and then another local RefuPea joined us too. Check out this thread looking for NYC scrappers. Also, consider altering your thread title to include North Jersey so it will pop up in future searches. Good luck!

I hold a monthly crop at our local library. They have a room we can use for free as long as I don't charge. Only down side is that we can only use it for four hours. Everyone brings in snacks and everyone can have their own large table (if they want). When I first started it I put up a poster at the library. It is also listed in the meetings held at the library.

I have attended many, organized by others, mostly at a church or school. Your lss would be a sure way to connect with people. I love cropping regularly and would like to get back to doing it more often.

I met various gals at church who scrapbooked, so I organized a scrapbook night once or twice a month at the church. It ended for awhile when a lot in our group either stopped scrapbooking or just got too busy for that one night a month.
Later I tried again. There were new people who were interested. We soon moved to daytime meetings at the LSS. When the LSS closed, we moved to the public library (they had rooms you could schedule), then eventually back to the church again.
The size of the group really fluctuated. We also gained a couple of people who didn't go to our church. I developed some friendships that have lasted, even after most of us moved to different states.
I moved to the DFW area about a year and a half ago. I keep finding people at church who scrapbook. I have considered starting a new group again, but have not yet done so. It does require effort and energy to get a group going, and to keep it going, even when you keep it simple. It was a good thing, though, which is why I am trying to decide if I want to get a group going here.
