Went to the Fair with DH, and DS.
It was wicked hot, so we got there around 4 pm, with the plan of touring the air conditioned buildings until the heat let up.
About a half hour before sunset, we got our ride wristbands and ventured out into the Midway.
Went on a few rides, DH REALLY LOVES to ride the huge Ferris Wheel, right as the sun is setting. It is an amazing view, and all the lights coming on from the other rides is fun to watch.
Anyway, we got in line for the big Ferris Wheel, which is much taller than the regular Ferris Wheel, and all of the other rides. The line moved forward, couples and families being seated in the carriages that held four people.
We got to the front, and we were behind one guy. I hadn't noticed the "Single Riders Not Permitted" sign until the worker pointed it out to the guy in front of us. The worker said that if he could find people to ride with, he could ride, then turned to us, and asked how many.
When we said 3, he asked if the guy could ride with us, and we said sure.
SCARIEST FREAKING RIDE EVER. Because, as we started up, I was pondering *WHY* single riders weren't allowed. It wasn't particularly crowded. As we got to the top on our first revolution, I thought to myself, "Wow, we are pretty damn high! You'd die if you fell from this height for sure onto the concrete below!"
Just then I noticed our guest was swiveling madly in his seat, looking every which way. He had the eeriest smile on his face as he gyrated around. My DH, DS, and I had been commenting on the view, the sunset, the glow on the mountains, but this guy was actively turning all around, in such a twitchy way, that I spent the rest of the ride preparing to tackle him if he made a move to go over the side.
Once we were on the ground, DH and I made eye contact with a WTF look. Once we were away from the guy we shared that we were both thinking the same thing! DS was oblivious.
