Am I the last person in the world to know that they offer 10% off regular and sale prices everyday for people 55 and over? I was shocked this morning when the associate said “oh you’re not over 55 are you?” Um, yup! I’m 56. She then told me about the discount and along with all the great sale prices and 50% off a set of dies I got 10% off! She did say that you have to ask for it.

I didn't know that either, and I used to work there! And since I am 55, that's good info to know!

I sometimes tell people I'm 55. I'm always hopeful of a 'oh wow, you look wonderful for your age' type of response. I've never got one. I'm 45

I think teachers get 10% off too if they ask for it.

So I wonder if this is a new thing? Since no one seems to know about it and all..surely someone would have heard about it before now?

A sales clerk asked me if I wanted to claim it about a year ago (might not be that long, but several months, anyway), so now I always tell the clerk just before they total up the sale. Flat 10% on everything in the cart!

Is it 10% off anything not on sale and what is not already covered by a coupon? Or is it 10% off on top of any other discounts/coupons?

Hmm must tell my friend in Texas about it. And if I come to the USA again I'll be sure and ask for it

The associate I had scanned my coupon first and then added the discount. My $19.99 set of dies ended up costing $8.99 after the 50% coupon and the 10%. She said it was regular and sale items, not clearance.

So I wonder if this is a new thing? Since no one seems to know about it and all..surely someone would have heard about it before now? No, it is not new. Actually, if you have an AARP card, which you can get at 50, you just show that card and get 10% off. They don't require an ID and they always accept the card. You can also get a free gym membership at 50 if you have an approved insurance through Silver Sneakers. My gym is right by Michaels.

I just (laughingly) told my DH about the discount. He said "Am I going to be going to Michael's with you?"

I don't bother. It's only good on full price items. They won't take it off if you use a coupon or if you include sale items in the same transaction. It's very restrictive. I never, ever buy anything from Michaels full price. Never.
You can only use one discount at a time at my store. If there is a 40% off coupon on one regular price thing, then I can't use any other coupons during that transaction. I tried to use a 40% off coupon on a full price rubber stamp and a 40% washi tape coupon in the same transaction. The clerk told me I could only use one of the coupons and had to get back in line to use the other one in a different transaction. One coupon per purchase.
That store seriously annoys me. I like the idea of buying local, but 99% of my craft purchases are online. I'm really close to making my first AliExpress purchase because I'm tired of high craft store prices.

That's why I take my husband with me sometimes Our cashiers are actually good about asking at checkout. They ask: "are you a teacher, military or senior?" though some of them drop the senior, depending on how old they are in relation to me.

Im sorry your experiences have been bad. She specifically told me it was regular and sale items and she took off my 50% coupon and then another 10%off the total. Everything I bought was on sale except for the 50% item. I’ll have to see what happens at a different location. The one I was at yesterday isn’t the one I usually shop at.

That is ridiculous, making you get in line again to use a different coupon. Sounds like a call to management or corporate is in order. I have never seen a store do that.

No, it doesn't work with something that you use a coupon on, but it will work on anything up to 60% off on a store sale, so add another ten percent off of that and you get the item 64% off. That is worth showing you card. Sounds like your store doesn't follow store policy. I have never had a problem with getting the extra 10% off. Here is the info in their site. 10% OFF Entire Purchase Including Sale Items Every Day If you are age 55 years or older, take 10% off your entire purchase including sale items every day. Simply present a valid ID at the register. Some exclusions apply. See Store Team Member for details. Available in store only.

I can use as many coupons as I want as long as they aren't the same coupon. I think this is a training issue with the cashier.

I thought it was only on Tuesday ... or maybe that's Joanns. I know you all know you can use Mike's coupons at Jo's and vise versa, did you know Mike's lets you buy all the embossing machine items with your Jo's coupons, whereas jo's has a restriction on the coupon for those items.
