Update: Mike has passed peacefully with his "dad" by his side and friends nearby. He was well loved, born in 2000, he has had one family from the time he was born till his last breath. His litter-mate and brother "Max" was waiting, as was both his biological "mom" and his human "mom." He went very quickly, he was ready. I shared the postings here with Bob, and he sends his heartfelt thank-yous to everyone. Any thing further, I will take over tomorrow. Thank-you for all the thoughts and prayers. Asking for some of that Pea Power for our friend and neighbor Bob, and his dog "Mike." It's time, and Mike will be helped to cross over to The Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday near sunset, at home. Bob in recent years also lost his wife to cancer, and Mike is who kept him going each day. In my heart, I feel Bob needs the Power of Peas, he is a good man of simple means and needs. He was one of the original homeowners in the subdivision, and nearly everyone that they knew from this neighborhood has gone. DH and I will be there at his request, as well a few other neighbors. I'm going to make a memorial photo, as friends did for us when Chance passed. I'm sure we all have that person in the neighborhood that we see, but seldom get to know well, take a chance. If it wasn't for our Chance and Mike becoming "best buds" and Maggie, "Mike's sweet-girl" from our daily walks, we might not have really met him or known him. My heart is heavy, we love Mike too, and have watched him a few times over the years. He is a very good dog, friendly and loving, even as age and several chronic illnesses have taken a toll on his body.

I will keep Bob in my thoughts. I have been through similar. My husband passed away and 2 of our dogs in the past 2 years. Its been hard but when I think about all of them I try to remember the good and funny things they did.

I'm so sorry. It breaks my heart when someone loses a four-footed companion. They both will be in my thoughts as Mike's days here with Bob come to an end.

This just made me cry. That is a lot of loss to suffer and it's very kind of you to share that burden with Bob and Mike. You know, everyone seems to know the main part of the Rainbow Bridge poem/story but I think the entire book just gives it more context and meaning. You might want to order the book for your friend. It gave me/gives me comfort and I reread it when I lose one of my own.

I am in tears this morning, I am going to print these out for Bob, so he knows that he is not alone and many kind people have them both in their thoughts and prayers.
Yet again, a reason why I liked 2Peas in the past, and why I like this site today, community and the sense of family and friendship when something happens.
Be kind to your neighbors and hug the kids and pets.

When I see posts like this I always tear up thinking about our sweet boy, Kellie. I'm glad Mike's passing was peaceful ~ maybe he and Kellie are romping together at RB. BTW, there is a Rainbow Bridge in Folsom, CA. Every time we're in Folsom I mean to take a picture of it.
