Kind of. I’ve been working on purging and being honest with myself about it all. The main thing I tell myself is I can’t outgrow the system I have in place for storage. Or I have to have a very specific thing in mind to buy new. I do allow myself to buy at events though. But it’s a stash build-up situation. These are rare (every 1 to 2 years!). There just happened to be one this weekend. But prices were amazing, and I won’t need to buy now for a long time. I’m excited to work on projects and kits I bought. I need to look at it all now, and make lists of what I was thinking when I bought it. Lists...they’re my thing, and keep me on track!!! This is where I am right now. I recently moved my scrap space from a family room corner to a bedroom and still had too much stuff. It is all organized now, just the way I like it. So, if I don't have room for it I do not allow myself to buy it...there really is nowhere else to put it. I have also finally (after almost 20 years) realized my style and stopped buying everything that I thought was cute and now just buy the things that I will actually use. So, I am not on a freeze so much as...I have enough cardstock and have no room for even one more piece so no...you can't buy that lol... I have purged a little (and I mean just a little lol) and am really trying to use what I have before buying new...and so far the whole no room for it thing has been working pretty well.

I can put a dent in paper but man I never ever use up a sticker sheet. Even letters seem to take forever to use up enough of so I feel like I can toss it. I do use up enamel dots and pack of embellishments.

It might be my buying habits (buy like crazy when I'm in scrap mode, then go for months without scrapping or buying anything) but no matter how much I scrap I never seem to make a dent or finish off packages anything... I just purged at least an inch of paper, but then there was a sale somewhere... At least my addiction is paper and not shoes or something expensive I hear you. I love using my stash...but more than that, I love buying more stash. Sometimes I think I get half high just walking into Tuesday Mornings (especially if I haven't been there for a few weeks) in anticipation of what scrap goodies I'll find there. Then I sort through ALL of it! Yeah, it HAS to be a bona-fide sickness!

If you mean "dent" literally, I never intentionally harm my supplies. However, I often rearrange them to make room for more (ie organization is my actual hobby♥️). If you mean it figuratively, it may be the moment after making a donation OR a myth, fairy tale, optical illusion, or any term describing a state of being not reflective of reality.

Some things (like cardstock) I burn through pretty fast because I use it for cards and other projects in addition to scrapbooking. Sometimes I fall in love with a collection and use every scrap, but I have a big stash so even when that happens it doesn’t really make much of a dent.
LOL, the only time I actually make a dent in my stash is when I pull stuff out to sell/donate/purge. I’ve been actively trying to whittle down the stuff I know I won’t use for over six years and I still have too much stuff!

No, I've never made a dent in my stash in over 20 years of scrapbooking.
Not to mention i scrapbook much less than i buy & i like having a massive stash to "shop" from, if i do feel like creating.

Just when I think I might be making some headway, I go on a shopping spree. For example, I did finish up a paper pad and package of flowers over the weekend . . . and I just bought some stuff at Felicity Jane's moving sale. One step forward, two steps back. That's my scrappy motto.

I love to "kill" a kit, and do it every now and then. Does it make a dent in my stash? Maybe if I did it every day for the next year, and didn't buy anything.

I like to watch "kill-a-kit" vidoes but I really get inspired when I run across a "What I used up" video on youtube. I know DesignbyMelody does these. There was one other that also did them briefly (CHAshawn Scrapper, I think). I can't figure out why, but they have a different feel to them than the "kill-a-kit" videos, maybe it's because it feels more like things being used up from their stash than a kit. Although the kit would still be part of their stash. Funny how a different perspective on a similar idea can bring inspiration.

I'll have to check out the youtube users you mention for inspiration.

No. For the first year or 2 I was scrapping, though, I knew every product I owned and had used everything at least once. I think 2 years ago (5 years in) was the first time I actually finished a package of something. The hard part is I've now maxed out my room. I used to be able to shop and spend hundreds of dollars a month and be able to put it all away without any problems. Now I can barely spend $20 without having to reconfigure an entire area of my room just to fit it.

Yes. I saw it happen once. 🤣 Then I filled that stash right back up. Okay - that made me laugh so hard I sputtered coffee everywhere!! Love it!

At some point between living with my dad, then my in-laws, then buying our home, a lot of my stash just went by the wayside. I wasn't super big into scrapbooking for a bit and then two years ago I got back into it seriously. When I was pregnant I purged a bunch of what I had brought into our home and made a plan. I got one of those rolling carts and filled it. That was that. I buy only what I need for a project and then nothing else until the next project. My Florida trip album is almost done and I will have leftovers and it's all from Amy Tangerine- guess what I did? I bought a different Amy Tangerine paper pad for my Charleston album but this way all the letters and embellishments coordinate and if I need a different paper I can use from the Florida leftovers. I'm only buying albums and pocket pages now- there's no need for anything else until Charleston is done and until Alma's first month album is complete (it's nearly done). I did her first month similar to Florida/Charleston using the same colors as my pregnancy/home birth album so I could use leftover stash for that. I'm not allowing myself to go beyond filling up this cart- if it doesn't fit, I don't get it.

I'm not even sure how that would work. But I have been really into scrapping lately. I'm averaging about 6-8 layouts a week right now (pocket pages & 12x12). I'm not a fast scrapper, so this is pretty epic for me. I feel like making some progress, but then I buy another kit or collection. I get sick of it before I can use everything but I like to have a lot of options so...um probably not an attainable goal unless I went on a freeze or something. I am just happy I'm making right now, so feel fine if I also want to buy new things.

It's amazing to me, how many layouts one paper collection can actually make... and paper pads are even worse. I still have some papers from a "the Slab" from M's from 2003... Isn't that the truth?!? While I am NOT on a freeze (those are pointless for me), I have started trying to 'kill' my collections once I start working with them and that, my friends, is HARD. I store the majority of my papers in collections or homemade kits and I have indeed been able to remove a few of the folders from the area where they are stored because once a kit/collection is used to the 'kill' state, I rehome the remainder (random die cuts, stickers, etc.) to other kits/collections that are similar. I have multiple HipKit and Felicity Jane kits that I haven't even touched...so, I unsubscribed to one (for the summer) and the other is on a hiatus during a move so there is no danger there. I should be able to kill a few more kits/collections this summer. I am another who focuses on not outgrowing my storage space. As long as everything fits and I don't find myself constantly reorganizing to make more space, it is all good.

In the "kill-a-kit" videos, I do get inspired when I have similar or same things that they used up, but it's different for me than the random things. I try to watch more of these types of videos right before my scrap retreats since that's the only scrapping I do for the time being. For a 3-day retreat, it's an accomplishment if I can finish off at least 1-2 packages of something other than adhesive. I tend to use a little of this & a little of that, so a pack of wood veneer, chipboard, enamel dots, etc. can last me a very long time. I am not good at using the same things from layout to layout. I like most things spread out over several albums. Of course there are exceptions like Cambridge doilies, those go on a lot of my layouts. I bought a huge box on Amazon, so no chance of using them up anytime soon & I'm okay with that. It's really papers I need to use up and I need to be better about using more embellishments on my pages.

I would use more of my stash if I automatically added an extra layer or two of paper to every layout... I work on cardstock typically, and follow sketches that only use one-two 12x12 pieces of paper per layout (borders, photo mats, etc.)... I really just need to start trimming 11.5x11.5 squares and adding an extra layer of paper to my layouts, or doing 'messy layers' with piles of paper beneath my photos, or something like that! I watch videos and see people who gut the middle of a 12x12 paper before using it because they want to 'save' their paper, and I just can't relate-- paper is like crack to me; I always "need" more of it!! Well, not really 'need' it, but you know what I mean- lol! (one other thing about 'killing' a kit, or using up stash- I used to not want to open a new package of supplies-- letter stickers, brads, whatever-- so in order to get past that phobia, I now open packages immediately and consolidate the package of stuff in with the rest of my supplies- that's another reason I don't get the 'using something up' feeling, because I don't keep individual packages of things to use up. Instead of having separate packages of enamel dots or decorative brads, I have 4x6 Iris boxes that hold ALL my enamel dots, ALL of my decorative brads, etc. So I never get to HAVE the feeling of 'using something up' because of the way I organize.)

Definitely don't use up my stash. It seems like every time I do one or two 12x12 scrapbook pages another box of scrapbook goodies shows up with about 50 dollars in supplies. The scrapbook stash is growing at an alarming rate I am afraid! Ha

I think it's an 'exponential growth' sort of thing... to do one 2-pg scrapbook layout that might end up including 3-5 decorative brads, 1-2 feet of twine, and 2-3 toatl pieces worth of paper, I need to have choices to pick from:
-- At least 10-15 pieces of patterned paper -- 5-10 shades of cardstock -- at least 10 or 20 decorative brads -- three or 4 pkgs of enamel dots -- 10 rolls of washi tape to pick from -- 20 different shades of twine, rickrack, or ribbon
etc. etc. etc.
You get the idea, lol!

Is this a serious question?? Cause that would be a big fat NO. Unless you consider I run out of adhesive once and awhile.

I did a major purge about 2 years ago and made a dent in my stash. (made $200 bucks at the lss garage sale too!) But other than that, no. I wouldn't say my stash has ever grown quite back to the way it was before the major purge except in the stamp category -- I love some Lawn Fawn and Hero Arts stamps and dies! I am nearly busting out of baskets of clear stamps. In fact, with this new Lawn Fawn release I think I am officially going to have more stamps than will fit in my current storage arrangement. Gotta think on that.

Even with not shopping hardly at all, I'm not seeing a dent. However, I only scrap about 3 times a year when I do my weekend retreats. I get about 20-30 pages done at each one, so I'm only doing the equivalent of an album a year. I have 3-4 albums going at a time, that's why I put "equivalent". I am at a point now that I am running out of places for my completed albums and I'm concerned what I'm going to do when these supplies are transformed into albums. I also have built up quite the stash of non-consumables, which takes up a lot of space, too (stamps, dies, embossing folders, tools). I do pull out things I don't see myself using or that I've lost the love for and donate those items to a friend that manages the activities at a senior living facility. She has a very limited budget, so she is grateful for any donations. Back in February, I donated over 100 sheets of 12x12 pp and I could not see a dent. I'm also at a point where I'm running out of room for completed albums. I've stopped doing December Daily, even though it's so fun.

I'm also at a point where I'm running out of room for completed albums. I am also BUT my nest is slowly emptying...DS26 moved out when he left for bootcamp in Nov 2015 and DD18 leaves for college in August so it'll just be DD11 at home. I see more space freeing up in the future...(esp. when DS actually comes back stateside and collects the boxes I'm storing for him in my closet.) So I'm hopeful I'll have more album space down the road

My good friend is retiring next week. She is planning on taking a trip to Yellowstone, Utah, and a month long excursion through Europe. I have great travel scrapbook (empty) and have been purchasing Yellowstone embellishments/papers for the last year knowing this is what I would get her for her retirement. Yesterday I had an a-ha moment and realized if I got her extra pages I could take some of the collections that I have and pull out some of the papers and make her at least a dozen small kits to go with her trips. It won't make a dent, but I am technically using my supplies.

With paper yes because I won't save anything less than a half sheet. With embellishments though, no. I seem to hang onto partial packages forever so no matter how much I use it seems like I'm always overflowing with packages.
