I'm totally out of the loop! What's with the new 9" x 12" sized scrapbooks? Is this a thing? What's the benefit or advantage? I've never even seen one in a store but I've noticed them online.

Studio Calico is the only company that produces this size. We're trying to get someone else to make them as well given the high price tags and poor quality of SC's offerings. 9x12 has been gaining steam over the past few years and there are a lot of people who made the switch. I simply want a specific configuration not currently offered in pocket page design because I feel it is a convenient size for vacations. 6x8 is too small for me to DD with an expanded spine, so I know any vacation would far exceed the limitations of one 6x8 but feel that a 12x12 would be too large. I want a 9x12 option with pocket pages that have 3 3x4 and 3 4x6 sleeves desperately.

Thank you. That makes sense. So it's basically a pocket page size.

More compatible with photo and card sizes than 8.5x11" but a similar manageable size in comparison to the massive 12x12" albums.
I think it's a fantastic size option and can't figure out why hardly any companies make them. People have been cutting down 12x12" chipboard albums and paper protectors to make their own for several years now. Marcy Penner was the first to talk about that online, I think.

Pros: **Smaller length size so they fit better on most shelves. **A nice in between size for those who think 12x12 is too big, 6x8 is too small, and 8.5x11 is too odd (if wanting to use pocket pages.) I've used them for my December Daily/Cmas photos the last 2 years and have really liked the size for the number of pictures I have.
Cons: **only sold by Studio Calico...they set the prices, decide on colors/fabrics. **limited PP configurations...that must be purchased from SC. **only one set of page protectors can accommodate a 4x6 horizontal picture. **PP cannot accommodate 4x6 vertical pictures, 3x4 horizontal pictures, or any size other than 3x3, 3x4, & 4x6. **4-ring system means punching holes in order to use cut-down PP from other companies (or to add the 9x12 pages to a 12x12 album).

The ladies have already said everything that needed to be said of 9x12. Studio Calico first launched it when they did their Seven Paper brand (those albums had the universal 3-ring configuration) and promoted it as being shelf-friendly. Which it truly is.
These albums are also a lot of fun for traditional layouts. I see the size getting used more often nowadays for layouts or a year book that mixes pocket pages and layouts. Inkie Quill comes to mind.

huskermom98 I chop up BH PL pocket pages so I can use 4x6 vertical and 3x4 horizontal photos (design B, design D especially) but to be fair, I'm still working in the SevenPaper 3 ring 9x12 binders so I have that flexibility there are lots of digital templates available for doing hybrid or photo collages in 9x12 too. I like the ones from Tracy Larsen

I always thought 8.5x11 was a really weird size to work on, just a little bit too small, but 9x12 is awesome, it's a great size and I love it! Try doing a LO that size scrappingirl212 and see how you like it

Is SC going to continue with making 9 x 12 albums? I recently bought some black 9 x 12 albums but they are now sold out. When I asked about when they would have more black leather 9 x 12, I was told that it is no longer in stock. I notice that the supply of the other colors is dwindling.

You can't trust a word they say! That's why I hate that they are the only place we can get 9x12 albums from. We need a new, non-sketchy supplier!

Go check out the Ali Edwards thread. There are pictures showing how to cut down an album. The example is 6x8 to 3x8, but same process will work for 12x12 to 9x12. Also, you can cut down 12x12 page protectors and not deal with odd hole designs.

They only have a few colors in stock now. I bought some white ones just in case but am wondering if they are discontinuing them as they are all at 1/2 off. I went to the warehouse sale a couple of years ago and they had a ton and were VERY cheap - wish I would have bought more than I did!

I just emailed them to find out what’s going on. The funny thing is the two other conversations I’ve opened all pertained to 9x12 albums. I am never given a straight answer from them when I do have a question so we will see. I can’t see a reason they would be doing away with this size but who he heck knows why they make the decisions they do. I really hate that they control this aspect of my scrapping, we really do need another company to take the power away from them.

I just thought I would 6 lots of 9x12 PP's and that Jasmine Jones album cause it's super cute. Shipping to the UK is $35. WTF? I don't mind paying reasonable shipping costs but $35, you've got to be kidding me. I'd rather buy a Fuse and make my own PP's from 12x12 ones!

Ugh! Well that's irritating. I have enough albums but I like being able buy page protectors I don't have to make.

Joann's has 9x12 3-hole page protectors, but they're only available online. link to JoAnn FabricsWhen the question about 9x12 came up awhile back, some Peas suggested checking out sheet music binders and page protectors.

Studio Calico have since changed their tune and are now claiming they have added new 9x12 albums to their 2019 product lineup in case some people haven't caught up with this update yet.
