We will be traveling to Overland Park, KS.
Tell me ladies....what can we do? Something inside as it will be summer when we go.
For non-family time I have quilt stores figured out. I wondered about stamp stores too.
Any suggestions?

Overland park is basically part of Kansas City, so there's TONS of stuff to do in KC. I think there was a thread on this just a few days ago.

Yep, I was going to say you're in a suburb of KC. Come on down!
There's a lovely farmers market, Ikea, if you have younger kids Deanna Rose is a great place to go, though it is outdoors. Lots of fantastic restaurants and theatre. You've also got Prairie Fire Museum which is amazing, but depending on where you are staying can either be in BFE or your backyard. I live on the north end of KC, so for us it's 45 minutes 1 way. For my mom who is in OP it's 20. I believe there is a stamp store off Metcalf, any other KC peas here know?
Further afield there's the river market (outdoor) Steamboat Arabia (indoor) union station which offers science city if you have younger kids in your group. My 9 year old loves it, my 12 year old is over it. I'm not sure what the next exhibit is, they're winding up the lego one. Royals game, though I understand they're not playing very well at the moment. We have a fantastic zoo, again outdoors.
ETA, Most of my choices involve my kids. I can rattle off 5 or 6 places to go with them, if it's just DH and I we're lucky to get dinner and a movie. Clocktower bakery is really neat and is in what I'd call Old OP, there's a quilt store near there as well as a Penzys.
June can be death valley or decent, it's truly a crap shoot here. We had a really cold winter and spring did not appear so it may be decent as we head into June.

My friend and I visited an antique market set up in the original warehouse/railroad part of the city. The large warehouses have been made into cute shops. However--bring your water and food. The day we were there, we found no place to eat/grab a snack. It was a weekday, so perhaps the weekend is different.
Some shops had AC/some did not.

Are you staying in the OP area or venturing to KC and the other surrounding towns? It makes all the difference. There's plenty to do around here.

1st when you are in OP, You are 20 to 30 mins away from just about anything in Kansas City. So remember that. You might like the area we call the Plaza. Lots of shopping & resturants there and just a neat area to walk around THE COUNTRY CLUB PLAZAnear the Plaza you will also find the Nelson Atkins Art Museum. LOVE this place! So neat and they change out the exhibit often. Admission is free, you just pay for parking THE NELSONThen if you are looking for some fun finds.... the West Bottoms shops might be for you. There you will find shops with a mix of antiques, refinished & re-purposed furniture and home decor. Some shops down there are open every weekend and some only on the 1st weekend of the month. Not sure when you are coming. THE WEST BOTTOMSThere is another area not far from the Plaza or Downtown called Crown Center. There you will find shopping and across the street is Sea Life aquarium and Lego Discovery Center. CROWN CENTERDown the street from Crown Center you will find Union Station. The original Train Station in KC. They have a science City ( more for young kids) inside as well we different exhibits through out the yr. Someone mentioned Lego is there now and in July it looks like we are getting Dinos again. BUT, if you are in the area, It is totally worth stopping to just see the inside of the building. it is beautiful! UNION STATIONIf you like History, across from Union station, up on the hill there is a National World War 1 Museum & Memorial. The views from the Monument are the best in KC. WWI MUSEUM & MEMORIALIf you need more stuff than this let me know. Tell me what you interests are or if you are traveling with children and I can find you more. We love our city!

Thanks ladies!
What great ideas. I'm off to check the links and google the places you mentioned. I figured I'd print whatever I could find then figure out what to do.

If you have baseball fans the Negro League Museum is great to go see. You’ve gotten lots of great suggestions of things to do in my hometown!

If you like History, across from Union station, up on the hill there is a National World War 1 Museum & Memorial. The views from the Monument are the best in KC. WWI MUSEUM & MEMORIALI cannot recommend this museum enough. It is the only WW1 museum in the country and one of only three in the entire world. The amount of artifacts and memorabilia in this museum is mind boggling. DH and I also spent a lovely evening at a jazz club called the Green Lady Lounge. It was very cool.

Another downtown activity is to Ride the streetcar from the Market to Union Station. We enjoy the New Theatre Restaurant for dinner theater. If you like Jazz, go to KC’s Jazz District, and eat at Arthur Bryant’s BBQ. It’s blocks from the Negro Baseball Museum.
