Our village has some narrow approach roads, while we headed home yesterday I heard my DH say woah and pull in to a lay by. Looked up to spot a smoke bleching, I'm as wide as the road vintage steam roller pulling a trailer making it's way towards us. I commented I had never seen one on a public road before to which my DD said she had never seen one working before. In museums yes but working no. She was fasinated.
Window down, "How do's" exchanged with the smoke blacked driver and his mate and then wondered how the brakes worked as they headed down the hill!!
It was great to see and very unexpected.
Have a story to share?

Did you maybe mean to put UNexpected in your title? I see a lot of steam engines at a certain time of the summer here because there's a huge steam rally held locally and it draws them in from far and wide. I have no real interest in them as such but I love to go and photograph them and the characters who drive and restore them.

I read the title as what UNexpected things have you seen, and thought of this.
We saw this on the interstate last weekend. Everyone made it out of the car safely, or I would not post the picture. No idea what caused it, but we were happy to see all of the occupants far from the car and safe. It was a reminder to us that you never know how your day is going to turn out.

Have a story to share? Haven't had an unexpected sighting of a thing or event recently but so pleased to read about yours! We were talking a few days ago about not having seen any vintage steam rollers chugging along the roads at weekends recently on their way to events. We used to see them often as steam roller gatherings are/were held in our area at times but have had no sightings recently. Love to see those things on the move!!

Shame about the car but good news to know the occupants were safe.

Unfortunately, we saw a woman being pulled out of her car by paramedics at the grocery store. One paramedic handed a needle from the car to another paramedic so we assume heroin was involved - it's a really bad problem here although we live in a mostly quiet, safe ruralish area.
Her color looked good even though she was unconscious so I hope she'll recover. It was an unfortunate teaching moment for the kids as we had no way of leaving our parking spot and it unfolded quickly near us. I've been thinking about her ever since and hoping she'll be able to get some help.

Once when we lived in Texas, DH and I were driving home and saw a huge snake coiled up pretty much in the middle of the road. Huge like the kind you see in shows at the zoo. DH thought it was hurt but we sure didn't want to mess with it.

Traveling through West Virginia yesterday on a trip, my brother and I were in a long traffic back-up. Three lanes, trucks all over, lots of summer travelers. They had narrowed the access to just one lane so it took awhile to go just a mile or so. I hoped no one was injured in an accident.
It was a trailer for a carnival that had wrecked somehow. Broken apart, wood pieces mixed with insulation, a crying group of people nearby. And firefighters picking up bunches of cotton candy that had been in bags inside the trailer. Big pink fluffy stuff everywhere, all over two lanes of the highway. Odd sight seeing firemen in those rubber pants carrying the fluff. I wish I had snapped a photo.
Totally unexpected and surreal. I'll bet it was for the family whose livelihood was affected, too.

We've seen two red foxes in our neighborhood. We live in a residential area, lots of houses but not right on top of one another. It was weird seeing wild animals "in town."

Last weekend DH and I were on his motorcycle and headed to my niece's birthday. We were at an intersection at the bottom of an off ramp. Suddenly a large SUV went off the off ramp, onto the grassy hilly area, hitting several signs and going fast. The hood was up over the windshield so you couldn't see in to tell if the person was conscious or not and I thought that the vehicle was going to continue through the grass and into the intersection.
I took my phone out and called 911 as soon as it came to a stop. DH jumped off the bike, not even turning it off, and ran to the vehicle. The woman was conscious and DH asked her if she was ok. She wouldn't respond. He finally put his hand on her and she asked him if she was alive. he told her she was and she asked why.
She had been drinking and tried to commit suicide. While waiting for the police, DH kept her talking and she said that her life was really really bad and she wanted to die. She kept asking my husband to shoot her. He wasn't wearing a gun, but had jeans and biker vest so she must have thought that he had a gun. He kept her talking and she noticed that he had a cross tattoo on his arm and she grabbed his arm there and wouldn't let go.
When police got there, they told us to back off and clear the scene. DH and I were greatly impacted and it's hard not knowing what happened to her. I still think about it and flash to that evening.

I watched a teenage domestic dispute play out in the middle of a supermarket parking lot last night.
DH ran in to grab something around 9 pm, so just getting dark here. But I stayed in the car with the window down since it was a really pleasant evening. I noticed a teenage girl come out of the store wearing a cashier apron, with her keys in hand, headed towards a new looking SUV. A teenage boy came running up behind her and grabbed her, which caught my attention. But then he picked her up and spun her around, and she started giggling and they were walking the rest of the way to the car, all hugged up and kissing and pawing on each other. Nothing to see there, just hormonal teenagers in love/lust. I go back to my game on my phone. Then I heard yelling and looked back up, and they were having an argument at the SUV. She was really letting him have it. Flailing her arms around, cursing a blue streak, and using a really shrill and shrieky tone of voice. Then she slaps the hell out of him and shoves him so hard that he stumbles back and almost falls on his ass. He calls her a couple choice names and starts to walk away in the opposite direction. She gets into her car to leave but yells something back at him through the open door. He comes running across the parking lot and punches her car so hard with his fist that he leaves a big dent in the side panel. She jumps out of the car and starts freaking out, pointing at the dent, and screaming and cursing even harder than earlier. Then she snatches his phone out of his hand and throws it as hard as she can out into the middle of the road. He goes running after his phone, she jumps in her SUV and guns the engine backing out and almost hits the cart corral. Then she tears off like a bat out of hell onto the street and looked at first like she was going to run him down. Instead, she slams on her brakes and yells something else at him, flips him the bird, and takes back off, squealing her tires. By the time DH got back to the car, the boy was dodging traffic and picking up the pieces of his phone in the middle of the street. I don't know what the fight was all about but that girl absolutely lost her shit on that boy.

Well I just looked out my back window to see many of my flower pots on the deck destroyed. There were two groundhogs sitting on the pots and had eaten all my petunias! They also ate my big basil plant! Darn things!

I saw a hang glider go past my bedroom window a couple days ago!! We're beachfront (albeit several hundred yards back), so I occasionally see parasailers, but I'm not quite sure where the hang glider took off from, as it's totally flat here and there are no tall buildings. Of course, I don't know enough about hang gliding to even know what they'd need to get started.

I hear a noise outside my kitchen window the other night. Looked out to see a huge black bear snacking from my bird feeder not 2 feet from my window, Her 2 cubs were rolling around in the yard not far from Mama. I'm glad I got to see them but hope they find a new restaurant from here on.

I live in a high-rise condo that faces Lake Ontario. There was a thunderstorm the other day and I could literally see the clouds rolling in, saw the lightening over the lake and coming closer to my town. I could see another "cell" coming over the lake. Really cool!

Last year, November-ish time I think, we were driving along when we suddenly saw 2 men dressed as Farher Christmas on bikes. It got really quiet in the car, then all of us said at once "Did you just see that?" Relief all round that we weren't imagining it.
A couple of months ago I had a car full of my son's teenage friends, dropping one off at their home when am unaccompanied dog walked round the corner with what appeared to be a cat in his jaws...huge intakes of breath before we realised it was a toy...which made it no less weird but slightly less disturbing!

A month ago, I was heading into town to ToysRUs for some birthday shopping. I was in the left lane heading North on a major road, but not a highway. When out of the corner of my eye I saw a truck turning into the other side heading South, it looked like he maybe had lost some of his cargo out of the bed, but when I actually looked (we were at a light) it was a baby under his front passenger tire! I immediately put my car into park (yes in the middle of the road, I was the only one in the car) and ran over to try and help her, since it seemed no one had seen the baby yet (about 9 months old) just the mom. Luckily, she looked like she was okay, no blood or anything, just majorly upset and screaming. She was safely buckled into her car seat that was in the stroller (travel system), the stroller was what got destroyed. I yelled at the guy to move his truck and another man helped me carry the whole contraption over to the sidewalk, so mom could see she was okay and where the paramedics had just showed up. (My neighbor happened to be there as well and she moved my car into the median for me).
Same here, I was shaken pretty bad and I occasionly still have nightmares. And there was nothing in the papers or anything, so not sure of the outcome.

Jack Bauer tossed Margot out of a window last week on 24. Jaw-dropper ... DH and I couldn't believe it. Mine was a nicety done for me. I was driving to a friend's house, and there was a fancy SUV behind me most of the way. It even turned into their neighborhood, and then stopped where I was. I had noticed it for a few miles, so I was alert. An older lady rolled down her window and told me my back driver brake light was out. She said that was why she was following me. I really appreciated it DH checked it, and it had blown. Saved us a possible ticket!
