I’m currently at a baseball tournament (my life every weekend) and listening to the sound that makes me cringe more than anything.
Metal baseball cleats on concrete
Ugh! It’s the worst sound to my ears. One of the boys just stopped right in front of me and repeatedly scrapped his cleats on the sidewalk. It was killing me!
What sounds make you cringe?

The sound of packing tape pulled off the roll quickly. It haunts my nightmares. We moved 12 times in 10 years mid career (military). I got twitchy just hearing the sound, even coming from a neighbor's house!

I have a love-hate relationship with that squeak sound of athletic shoes on a wooden basketball court. It's an annoying sound, but it's also instantly fond memories of many hours of watching my boys play basketball.
My 93-year-old mama sucks her teeth to the music when we go on car trips. That kind of tongue-clicking/teeth-sucking sound? Not really sure how to describe it. But... we ride in silence a lot because I have to turn the music off in self defense! Lol.

Forks scraping on plates. Drives.Me.To.Drink. Close second is the sound of dental floss popping in and out of teeth crevices

Mine would be eating noises. Gum chewing and sunflower seeds drive me insane. And I live on baseball fields in the spring and summer as well. Some days it is really hard not to lose it.

The sound of people dragging their feet while walking just about sends me over the edge. I do find that annoying. And that slappy sound that flip-flops and slides make.

I got twitchy just hearing the sound, even coming from a neighbor's house! This is it for me too and I have to listen to it every day at work! I work for an online retailer and we sell through Amazon Prime so we have to send big boxes of merchandise every day. It is the absolute worst! I try to time my break for when our logistics guy is doing shipments.

Pumice stone to get hard waterm lines in the toilet. We had one toilet years ago that built up minerals so fast we had to use it at times.
Also, the sound of forks in my bowls. I don't use forks anymore in them.

Dogs. I hate dogs so much. One of my favorite sounds was my sheltie. I don't care for dogs barking, but I could turn to her and say -hungry? and she would make a Scooby Doo sound like Roo-Rooooooooo. I'd give anything to hear her do that again. Little kids whining drives me to drink... especially in a store or restaurant where it is over and over and I am stuck in line or in a seat.

Young children's voices screeching inside stores and malls. I don't mean in laughter-I love the sound of children's laughter. I mean that screeching sound some of them do when they want attention, are running around away from their parents, you know, we all have heard it. That sound makes my stomach contract and my brain explode. I just hate it.
I spent a month away from the USA in Europe last May and I didn't hear it once. I traveled in Poland, Germany and Austria. As soon as we hit ground at the airport in Dulles (in Virginia) and I was walking around in the airport I heard it again. It must be something in the way American parents are raising their children these days and/or the kids are hearing it from kids around them. My son was born in 1989 and I know it wasn't going on then.

Not a sound, but the stretching of a rubber band will literally send a chill up my spine.

We have traveled to the Caribbean multiple times at all-inclusives and children speaking many different languages (some I don't recognize) can have beastly little tantrums. We did travel to Paris and I remember thinking that no one was unhappy, but there were a fair amount of English speaking people there. Who knows.

The sound of a balloon being blown up, and clinking bottles on a supermarket conveyor belt every time it moves. Just turn them round the other way for crying out loud. And I'm another one who doesn't like barking dogs. Well dogs in general actually. When I see a dog I can also physically smell it, and that revolts me. I think I have dog synesthesia? Poor dogs - it isn't their fault.

Whistling. The most irritating noise on the planet. I hate it. Whistling creeps me the eff out. It’s like every horror movie I’ve ever watched has conditioned me that whistling is always a bad bad thing.
