I'm looking to plan a quick getaway for dh and I possibly in mid-late September or very early October. I'm hoping for mid-September and decent weather.
I was there for a couple days a few years back, but it was very kid oriented so we did nothing adult-like. I'm looking for a good hotel recommendation where I can sit and admire the falls from my window (Canadian side.) I'm looking to relax, keeping it low key, but also seeing some of the sights. So tell me what are the must see and must do things. Any restaurants that are a must while visiting the area?

You must do a wine tour at niagara on the lake. A few friends and I went last week, We had a guide named Brando from Niagara Wine Tours and he was totally awesome! They pick you up and drop you off at your hotel, so no need to worry about drinking and driving . They might also be harvesting at that time of year, we just saw the teeny tiny baby grapes on the vines.

I second the wine tour, just got back from a weekend at Niagara on the Lake - small touristy town right next door to the falls more geared to adults, lots of shops & Shaw festival & wineries. A wine tour is a must see in that area! In fact I would recommend NOTL more than Niagara Falls. Tons of excellent restaurants, ghost walk tour at night, Fort George & Fort Mississauga, lots of history from the War of 1812 (Canada vs US)

Thanks so far! Neither of us are wine drinkers so we're likely looking for other things to do. Any touristy things that are musts?
Will definitely look into NOTL.

The fallsview hotel is right in front of the falls. They have the Casino and shows too. Lots of shops.
You can go to the bird conservatory there and there are some good shows like Oh Canada eh and Jeff frewin magic.

google the Shaw Festival to see what plays they are doing this year, check out the ghost walks, if you're not into wineries there are also a couple breweries & whiskey distilleries, the casino, some of those wax museums are fun, butterfly conservatory
STAY AWAY from Marineland!!!!!

i love the embassy suites... we usually stay there. if you go "off season" you can get some good rates on groupon.
butterfly conservatory is beautiful, lots of hikes and small conversation areas that you can go hiking in nearby as well.
niagara-on-the-lake is a pretty town to go for lunch and walk around in, even if you don't wanna do wine tasting and is close by.

Our first trip we stayed at the Sheraton Fallsview on the 22nd floor with a falls view. It was pricey but worth it to see the fireworks and laser show without having to fight the crowds. There is also a casino and shops there, which is nice. We like the wine trail around Niagra on the Lake (the Ice House is our favorite) and have also done the Whirlpool Aerocar, the jet boat tour and the Butterfly Place. There was an Italian restaurant called My Cousin Vinnie's which was good, but we also did the Spaceship Diner (my grandson's choice) and the food wasn't half bad . Other than those, we just did places like Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe...those types of places, although both may be gone now.

I would book a H&M on the Canadian side, on Niagra on the lake.
Ha! Autocorrect. A bed and breakfast.

We stayed at the Loew's hotel (I think, or something similar) last year and had a great view. We bought the Niagara falls adventure pass and did the things that were included. We had a fantastic time and did all sorts of things. We loved the boardwalk by the rapids and the whirlpool aerocar. We had the best pizza at Niagara on the lake.

We are taking a girls trip next month to Niagara Falls and staying on the Canadian side. We'd like to go to Niagara on the Lake but what's the best transportation? Do we need to rent a car and can we rent one in Niagara Falls or have to rent from the airport for the whole week?

there is a bus between the two - Wego busyour hotel might provide a shuttle if you want to do a wine tour they will pick you up at your hotel, we used Niagara Vintage Wine Tours but there are a bunch of different ones or I'm sure your hotel could hook you up with a rental car if you only want it for a day or two. You don't really need one for the entire week if you go to NOTL, I highly recommend walking outside of the downtown shops area, particularly by the river/waterfront. The homes there are gorgeous!

Do we need to rent a car and can we rent one in Niagara Falls or have to rent from the airport for the whole week? Are you flying in from Buffalo Airport? If you don't want to rent a car to come across to Canada, use Niagara Air Bus (go to website) to pick you up from the airport (Any airport - Niagara Falls, NY, Buffalo, Hamilton, Billy Bishop or Toronto Pearson). Get some deals from https://www.niagarafallstourism.com and at www.niagaraparks.com/visit-niagara-parks/plan-your-visit/deals-packages- The last website you can pre-purchase a package at a discount for Hornblower Cruises, Journey behind the Falls and WeGo transportation.

I just saw that you can now zipline across the falls. Just in case anyone's up for an adventure.

Lumo recommended a great restaurant when we were there two years ago. We had a Tuesday night special which you have to ask for but it was prix fixe and included a bottle of wine and everything was spectacular. Carpaccio

I second both the Groupon and Niagaraparks.com. We've done both and you can get a good deal depending on what you're into.
Have fun!
