I was looking at old piks of my Dad's 80th birthday; two of my nephews WANTED to be with us, but lived too far and couldn't make it. I printed out these "life- sized" piks of their sweet faces and brought them to the party. (If you've heard of "Flat Stanley", I was inspired by that). (that's my beautiful niece , looking very lovingly at her brothers). My family got such a kick out of this! Another time, I did the same thing with my best friend, who was missing her daughter sooo much on her birthday. Have you ever done anything like this?

I LOVE that. My brother was serving in Iraq when I got married. We had his photo in a frame, but this would have been WAY better! Love it.

The closest I’ve come was when I had shingles and my DS & DIL’s baby shower was at my house. I stayed in my bedroom and the party went on without me but they Skyped me so I could watch everything.

My husband always teases me that when he dies, he wants me to have him stuffed in a scary bear pose and put him in the corner of my living room. The cardboard cut out I may be able to live with! Cute idea!

Several teachers went on a cruise one year for spring break. Our principal could not go, so we did something like that with her picture, we called her "Principal on a stick". We took her picture all over the place, with the Captain, with several bartenders, on the beach (we made her a body with really large boobs!), with random strangers, and on several tables full of empty drink glasses! We had a great time, and so did P on a stick!! We put together a PowerPoint for her when we got back and played it at the first faculty meeting.

I thought it’d be fun to bump this for peAps that can’t be at certain holiday events. I’m gonna make some of DH & I to show our sweeeet families that we won’t be seeing for Thanksgiving 😊

leeny ....Ugh, many years ago, we went to a verrrrrry long graduation at a HUGE university on a verrrry hot day, with THOUSANDS of other people. I wish I'd sent a life-sized cardboard cut- out of DH and I instead ! mrssmith ....Aww, I've seen that done at weddings. It was sad, but sweet to see framed photos of loved ones in the pretty chairs. jeremysgirl ......Your DH's idea is HILARIOUS!!! beachbum ....LOL at "Principal on a stick!"

The first year that after my SIL got married and moved several states away with nephew, we mailed them a gingerbread house kit so he could do one with us on skype at our gingerbread house party. It was nephew’s first big holiday away from his five cousins and they were all very close. It was fun for everyone to (at least) have them with us that way!

I know two people who have become Flat (Friend's Name) to include them at events they weren't able to attend in person. It's a great way to be able to have fun with someone who isn't able to make it due to other obligations or debility.

My husband went to Europe years ago with a friend of his and I made him take along a picture of my sister's head with him. She had been to England about 8 years prior for college and always talked about wanting to go back. He got some great pictures with the head on a popsicle stick, and I made it into a little video for her that was a comical story but made her cry at the end =) I also took my grandmother's head on a popsicle stick with me to Amsterdam and took pictures tiptoeing through the tulips at Keukenhof. @pnwmom ... SO cute and fun! 😀 I love that your DH got enough piks to ALSO make a video!!!! I wish I’d thought to make a video for my paper nephews! Your grandma looks SO cute on a stick, and must have been SO tickled to tiptoe through the tulips “with” you! 😂 (annnnd, now that song is stuck on my mind.... hee hee!)

With Easter and Passover this weekend, I thought some peAps who are missing someone might like to do something like this . I am MISSSSSING both mine and DH's families. We used to have fun Easter celebrations every year, but we had to move away due to DH's career. BUT.... I'm grateful to have some VERY sweet friends here that I consider family!

So cute! Instagram Live is also a fun way to give people a window into an event.

We have done that a few times for homecoming/alumni events for classmates who couldn't be there. One time we had 3 different flat alumni at once.

Those look great! Yes, I’ve done something similar for my best friend. Her and her DD are football fans and her DD couldn’t make it home for the super bowl party one year.
I printed out a big face of her DD and added a construction paper body. I made her Pom poms and made sayings like “touch down!” , “pass the wings!”, and a bunch of others to attach to her through out the day. I snuck her in and had her sitting at the table while my BFF was cooking. She laughed and cried when she saw it.

I took Shan on a stick on a trip when she had brain surgery and couldn't make it. Do you want to take a pic? Sure, can I grab my friend? Ha.

I'm bumping my old thread for obvious reasons! I'll probably do something similar again with with family and friends...maybe Easter themed? When I made the "people" in the OP photo 9 years ago, I don't think we had skype/ facetime/ zoom/ etc. back then? ANYHOOO....my Dad just turned 89 on Friday, and all the grandchildren surprized him on ZOOM....it was soo fun for him!
