A friend got married over the weekend. This is her first wedding, but 6+ fiancée.
She is nearly sixty and wore a full on white dress with all the trimmings and a tiara with the full veil. Obviously you know that I didn't help pick this out. I would have tried to get to pick something more elegant, that would have not made her look like miss haversham.
So what outfit/dress you would pick for an older bride to wear?

My husband's aunt said that it was good luck to wear pink for a second wedding. I happen to love pink. Here's us:

Picture please! LOL
I'd probably pick a comfy but dressy "regular" dress.
For my wedding (at 29) I wore a watercolor organza and linen tank dress with pearls. Simple. Something I already had in my closet. I felt beautiful!

I saw her about six months ago and she was telling me about her upcoming wedding. She had the whole shebang. At first I thought, come on, you're over 40! But then I thought about it. She waited a long time to find Mr. Right. She wanted the whole thing. Whereas I had that the first time around and I just felt like the second was low key for me.

It's her wedding, so she can have the one she wanted. That is great.

I got married for the first time at age 42; second marriage for my husband.
Maybe I'm odd, but I never, even as a child, pictured myself in a traditional wedding dress. Just couldn't see it.
A good friend suggested having something made; my hairdresser at the time knew of a seamstress who could do it.
I had an ivory pantsuit made, with a crushed peachskin vest-type top to go under the jacket. There was pearl trim along the edges of the jacket. Simple but it suited me. We got married at the local Botanical Center, in front of their waterfall. It worked.

It was my second wedding, I wore an ivory drop waisted dress with a an overlay that touched my ankles - the bottom couple of inches were a sheer lace beaded with ob beads ( a Jessica Mcclintock bought online in the sale from the US just praying I got the measurements right lol.)I loved it.
If it was my first wedding and I wanted 'the whole shebang ' I would have gone for it though- at over 50 it's likely to be your last chance to have all of that .
Strapless has never been my style however .

I'm 49 and never been married, and I don't see myself getting married, but at this point if I did, I'd probably do something tea length, but still cream or off white with lace.
I think a wedding is a big deal and if she's never been married at 60? She should get to wear whatever she wants!

On vacation, and those aren't digital pictures, so no access to them from here. 😁

I'm 44 and never been married. If I were to have to have a wedding, who knows...might have a dress, or might have a dreeeesssss.... I'll know if the time ever comes. Right now, I don't want it to come.
Good for her for getting a dress she wanted

I'm not quite 50, but if I were getting married for the first time now, I'd probably wear something like this. I think a bride should wear whatever makes her feel beautiful and not give a rat's ass about what anyone else thinks is appropriate given her age, etc.

Those are tasteful. I was picturing a FLUFFY over the top style dress slit up to THERE and cut down to THERE. LOL

I think I’d wear something like what busy posted but a different neckline.
Or something a little more bohemian like a dress from the Anthropologie wedding line.

this is actually a very timely question... I'm looking forward to seeing what people say about this!
(I'm 49; we're getting married at the beginning of October, and I have NO idea what to wear. We're getting married outdoors in the desert with only two witnesses, and it could easily be 90+ degrees. I want a dress I could possibly wear again- so probably tea length- and I am not a 'frou frou wedding dress' type person.)

First marriage, early twenties, I went the traditional route with an off white gown. Second marriage, late twenties, I wore a regular dress. It was a coat style in a deep blue and black. If I were to marry now, I'd do something similar to wedding #2 unless it was important to my husband-to-be to have a more tradional style wedding.
That said, I don't believe I would judge someone my age (mid 50's) for wearing a traditional gown as long as it was tasteful and location and age appropriate.

If it were my very first wedding, I absolutely would do the big white dress and tiara and veil, no matter my age. If that’s the style I wanted for my first wedding why shouldn’t I be able to do that as a 60+ year old bride?

A 60 year old first-time bride heats the wedding she has always wanted. White dress, tiara, veil and shoes if she wants them. She has waited her entire life! This is so sweet!!!!!

Thank goodness she was wise enough not to ask for your help. You would have just been a buzzkill about what she wanted to wear.
On here, talking shit about a friends wedding dress behind her back. And how is her history of 6 engagements relevant to discussing what one should wear over 50? It's not, you're just being a bitch about her.
You suck. You're not a friend.

Maybe not what I would have chosen, but you know what? Especially with her first wedding, I'm glad she wore what made her happy, good for her.

I did the traditional dress and veil when I got married at 23. Now that in 51, I would do a black beaded gown.

dewryce-- thanks! We were going to do it at the courthouse, but that seemed a bit too sterile to me. It's just going to be us, our witnesses, the officiant, and our dogs , outside in the desert. And honestly, I've put more thought into how the dogs are going to be dressed up (bandannas with silk flowers, or silk flowers on their collars) than what I'm going to wear, lol. I am NOT good at shopping for clothes for myself (unless it's a tee-shirt).

I did the sleek, elegant dress the first time. If I had to marry again it’s going to be foofy as hell - bring on the tulle baby.
