I loved him! I first saw him in concert in 1980 at the Universal Amphitheater back when it was a real open air amphitheater. It was his Look Sharp tour.

elaine it's the other Joe Jackson, as in the Jackson family. ETA - peace is a faster typist!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I will always have such fond memories of his song "Steppin' Out."
It's was the early 80's. I was in Aix en Provence for a couple of weeks. I could faintly hear this song through my open window, and it got stuck in my head. I'd never hear it before. I got back to the US and it was all over the radio. Thank goodness, as it would have been an ear bug I'd have for life. To this day, when I hear that song, it takes me RIGHT back to those 2 weeks in southern France as if was just a few years ago. Funny how music can do that!
ETA just scrolled down to see that it was the other Joe Jackson. Regardless, thanks for the stroll down memory lane.

In all honesty, I don’t have a lot of sympathy. Even though he was a human being, I don’t know, let’s just say I’m not weeping over it. He did horrible things to his family. I’m convinced if Michael had had a different father, he would have turned out better as an adult. He might not would have been as famous though.

knowing what we know about how he treated his kids, it's really hard to have any sympathy for the man. sure, there are some who would say that the Jacksons would not be who they are today had it not been for his "discipline". someone once asked him what thought of the reports that Michael Jackson would vomit at the sight of him. his reply was that if he did vomit, he vomited all the way to bank. again, hard to feel sad about his passing.
