This woman says they are the "way to go" for grilling.

My husband started making spiral hot dogs about 2 months ago. It's the only way he will grill hot dogs and the kids absolutely love them. The dogs are crispy and juicy. We use beef dogs.

We have been doing this for as far back as I can remember and I'm 66. My Mom always did it and I continued the "tradition"

Future threads? -
Hot Dogs, yes or no? Yes.
Do you or don't you spiralize hot dogs? Not usually.
Grill or Boil or roast on a stick? Yes, please!
What brand of hot dog is best? Hebrew National (DH watched a program on how hot dogs are made and now we only eat kosher hot dogs).
ETA: back when I was a kid, my mom used to split them down the middle, slather on BBQ sauce and bake them in the oven.

Why are spiraled hot dogs better? I'm intrigued...

i've always preferred scored/spiralized hot dogs over the solid.

Elaine, I swear, I think you and I have to be related somehow. Maybe you are the sister I was supposed to have instead of the two terrible so-called sisters that I got stuck with. I have always been a gadget person with things that make cooking simple. My so-called sisters make fun of me for it. Well, they did when I was still talking to them. I have zero in common with them, and I find myself identifying with all of your posts. Strange, huh?

that is actually a really good idea- for the reasons that it makes them longer to fit the bun better, the groove will hold the condiments, and the char would be better on them (I love my hot dogs basically charred black on the outside, lol).

Okay, me TOO. People think I'm nuts! But a more surface-area of char argument has me ready to spiral up alllll the hot dogs.

Lexica, my own sister is nothing like me either. I am more than happy to have you as my pea-sister! Ok, Pea Sis, you’re on. My sister’s are gossipy, mean, materialistic, jealous, manipulative, and nasty people. And that is just between the three siblings. I had to back out for my own sanity. Although, my youngest is refusing to give my my third of Mum’s ashes, as Mum requested and I have in writing from her. They got mad because she named me executor of her will because she knew I was the only one who would follow her wishes. If I not for Mum wanting me to mix her ashes in with Dad’s, I would just forget it. Mum stipulated that I was also to get some of her furniture which is at my younger sister’s house, because that is where the majority of her things were stored for their house, but now she is refusing that also. I really don’t care about the furniture. I have things that Mum herself brought from there over the years because she knew that I would value them. Nothing of major monetary value, but total sentimental value and those things are among my most cherished possessions. Still thinking on the ashes as to whether to fight her or not. I could take her to court since I am executor and have her will as well as a secondary document she wrote at the insistence of the oldest sister to list all the things the oldest sister wanted to get. She actually took pictures of everything years ago to make sure she knew what all was there. It also just happened to list the ashes split. Now, is your sister as awful as mine? I doubt it!

(((Hugs))) how awful! I am so sorry. I promise not to fight over possessions - kitchen gadgets for everyone! My sister lives on the other side of the world, so I don’t see her often. Mostly when I travel there to see her and her kids. She did come out in February and finally met my children for the first time in their lives. And they are 16 and 18. My sister never thought it important enough to come to DC when she was in the states to meet my kids, until one was an adult. Her kids know me well. So, she isn’t actively mean or petty, but definitely self-absorbed and has been for our whole lives.

Damn you Elaine - I'm another gal that simply "must have" gadgets lol. At least this one is inexpensive - and it also gets me to finally order the spare rings for my Instant Pot!

Unless DH is using the grill outside I cook hot dogs on the Foreman Grill. Has anyone tried cooking spiral hot dogs on one? I usually just slice the hot dogs down the middle
And yes... charred!
