I was the first to call it gravy on the other thread. I grew up calling it spaghetti sauce, but in our parish we have some very old school Italian families and they call it gravy. One of the priests even did a homily on the hotly contested sauce vs gravy debate.
One of our organizations at church has a monthly spaghetti supper and most of the older people (usually Italian) call it gravy.
I go back and forth between the two.

I would bet that if you asked those old school Italians, they are from Sicily. All my Italian relatives from Rome/Ferentino area call it sauce...not gravy.

My family always calls it gravy! My grandmother was Italian, and it was just what we did. Nobody EVER called it sauce. Sauce was like, barbecue sauce. And my grandma would say, "I'm making the gravy, are you coming on Sunday?" Most Sundays were spent at dinner at my grandparents. Now, some non-Italians I know get super SALTY about us calling it gravy (and I have some militant Italian friends who will correct everyone who ever calls it sauce... I'm not that bad). I feel like this poll should have more options: "Gravy and I'm Italian" "Gravy and I'm Not Italian" "Sauce and I'm Italian" "Sauce and I'm Not Italian." Haha!

OMG! My DH uses “medigan” all the time. LOL And PS - it is Nonna’s gravy, but he does call it sauce now. That has taken about ten years to change though.

My son had a meeting to go to and said they were holding it at the Red Gravy. What? It is an Italian restaurant here in Colorado Springs. I had never heard "it" called anything but sauce until I learned of this fairly new restaurant.

My mother was from northern Italy (Trieste), and we called it sauce. The first time I heard it referred to as gravy was after my sil moved to New Jersey.

This is making me want to make the gravy. This is making me want to eat the gravy. Disappointingly, I am not from an Italian family. There's something that just seems so much more deeply flavorful about calling it gravy than sauce. I like it all, though, the good, the bad and the ugly, and so I stay with the sauce because gravy is like the Holy Grail that I only rarely am able to get near.

To be fair to gravy, it deserves its own homemade pasta. My grandma used to make her own ravioli by hand. Damn, those were good.

One of my most favorite restaurants on the planet is a family-owned Italian place that makes its own pasta and has the best sauce. It used to be PACKED, but the last few times I was there, there were more empty tables than customers. A crime against humanity, I tell you. People avoiding pasta like it's the plague. Makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry.
