We have an old pendent style light that is ugly and cheap looking. It needs to be replaced, but I’m not sure what I want.
Anyone have a light fixture in your living room that you love?

We did some remodeling and replaced a bunch of light fixtures. Our living room had a ceiling fan in the center (with light), surrounded by 4 recessed lights. Our Floor plan is fairly open, and I put some wow light fixtures in the dining room, foyer, and breakfast nook, plus did a fireplace that is the focal point in the living room, so we decided to ditch the main center light fixture. It was also slightly off center from the way we were positioning the furniture. We patched over it, and put new LED recessed lights in the cans, on a dimmer.
Couldn't be happier with it. I generally like lamp light in the living room better anyway, and I couldn't believe how much taller it made the ceiling look to take out that ceiling fan. The eye stopped where it appeared.
Does your room connect to any other rooms? The light fixtures shouldn't match, but they should be "in relation" to each other. What metal finishes do you have? How high is your ceiling? A pic would help us find good suggestions! I liked shopping on Wayfair for finding styles I looked. I also bought most of my new fixtures on Facebook marketplace. Some good deals out there to be had, you just have to know your measurements perfectly.

What's is your ceiling height, and how big is your room? And what is your furniture style? Do you have other lighting, too? I have the Geoffrey Chandelier in large:

we have ceiling fans in every room in our house... they do have lights in, too (the glass is a frosted brownish swirl pattern), but I cannot STAND overhead lighting, so we typically just use table lamps. ETA: oil-rubbed bronze finish with a Venetian glass light-- similar to this from Home Depot All of our fans have been fitted with remote control switches, which are WONDERFUL!! (the remote includes a dimmer switch for the light, but I still HATE using overhead lights.) We also have track lighting that illuminates two paintings in the living room-- we typically set those lights on a very 'low' dimmer setting.

I was going to ask a similar question. I need new lighting too. I saw some really cool fixtures in an email but not sure I want to shell out the dough. The house we purchased a few years ago is older and the previous owners were older too so it's dated. I'd like an updated style.
We need kitchen and hallways mostly.
I'll be watching this thread. Thanks for asking.

Our LR was built in the era of "no ceiling light fixtures" so all we have are lamps in there. 1 floor lamp and lamps on end tables. My dream would be to have "canned" lights/recessed lights OR indirect lights hidden in crown molding. I'm sure at this point in my life it will never happen.
Our den has ceiling fan and lights. Because of aging eyes, we also have lamps near our chairs so we can read with good lighting.

Some good deals out there to be had, you just have to know your measurements perfectly. I have an open floor plan and 12 foot ceilings. I’m not worried about matching any finishes because this will be the first fixture to be replaced in a long line of fixtures that need to be replaced. Whatever we choose will be the basis and the others will have to match it. The room is about 20’ x 25’ and the only light in there is the main overhead light. I do have a floor lamp on side one of the room but because of the open floor plan I don’t have anywhere else I can add lamps because their cords will all be strung across foot traffic areas.

4 recessed and a nipple light hahaha!!! that's what we called the ones we got rid of... 'boob lights' actually- but same thing. their cords will all be strung across foot traffic areas. ^^^ actually, ours are like that, too, since the loveseat and sofa are set away from the wall. is it pretty? no- but I do eventually want to get some of that stuff that will cover up the cord along the floor.

With that tall ceiling and large area, if you like it, I think the round chandelier with the Edison bulbs that someone posted up thread would be very cool, if you like the style! I'd put it on a dimmer no matter what you go with.

The living room just has a floor lamp and table lamps. The room is used mostly for reading, so table lamps are perfect.
The space has vaulted ceilings and is open to the dining room, foyer, stairs and upper hall, so can get light from the lighting in those spaces as well if needed (recessed, chandelier and drop pendant).

These are the closest images I could find. They are oil rubbed bronze. The chandelier is in the middle of the room and the pendant is near the front door.
I can't get images to attach, here's the links

Our living room is two stories tall with a very tall south-facing window with an arch window on top. It's open to the front door, the stairway, downstairs hallway and the loft above. There's a half-height wall with columns to the dining room.
We have a hanging light above the front door space, and a ceiling fan and light in the living room; it has a longer pole so that it's not right up below the ceiling. There are two table lamps in the living room and they and the stained glass on the living room wall are lit at night. There are also lights on the loft that are lit at the same time. We rarely use the ceiling light but it's on a dimmer/remote in case we do want it on; virtually every light we have is on a dimmer.
I know decorators seem to frown on ceiling fans, but we love ours and have them in almost every room. They really do make a difference for us.

Nothing exciting - I have a ceiling fan with lights, two skylights and two table lamps. Unfortunately awhile back, my dd turned on the fan lights and all five burnt out at the same time! The fan still works, but I may need to have it replaced. I haven't had it looked at yet. If I do get a new one, I'll seriously consider a style that's easier to access the lightbulbs. This one is a PITA!!!

Ha ha ha! We’ve got the boob lights at the lake cabin and only wall sconces and table lamps at home. I kind of wish we had an overhead light at home because that room tends to be a little too dark for my preference especially in the winter and at night if I’m trying to do something in there.

Nobody will want to hear this, but we have a big balloon paper shade from IKEA in our tv room that I love. Our living room only has recessed cans and task lighting.
