Selling 2 love seats. The title of the ad clearly states 2 loveseats. The wording in the ad as well. All pictures show 2 love seats, sitting a few feet apart from each other.
A lady emails me and says she wants to buy them and can p/u Saturday.. Gives me her number and we text back and forth. I tell her I'll call her this morning with my address and to arrange a time.
I call her and she asks questions... "It is a sofa and loveseat, correct?" Umm... no it is 2 love seats as the ad states. "Is it a sectional." No, it is 2 love seats. "I'll have to think about it."
Seriously?!! Read the ad people!
I'm finding that more and more when I post stuff for sale and it clearly states something and then people ask about it. The other day I got one for something else. Ad states Pick up in XXX. I get the question, where are you located? Aargh. Yet, I persist, because ultimately, stuff gets sold and we have $ in our pocket.
Is it just me or does anyone else find this to be the case too???

Not necessarily in this context but everything in general. It seems people don’t read carefully anymore.

I'm in another country but it's the same here. The ad will clearly say that we do not deliver or ship and people will always ask 'will you deliver to ...?' I always include as much info as possible and good clear photos yet they will ask me about stuff that is clearly stated in the ad. I think people are just too lazy to read.

You know what is worse, when you are actually giving away a sofa and loveseat for free, all you have do is pick it up.
And then the day they are supposed to come and pick them up they message you to ask if you can deliver it. Um no.

We recently sold something on craigslist. The price was CLEARLY marked. We had photos posted. dh even talked to the person on the phone before he came--told him the price, and that it had to be a cash sale. the guy got here, said he wanted it, and then tried to dicker with dh about the price. Told him a sob story about how he really needed this article--would you take less? DH said no, it was already marked down about 1/2 from what we'd seen it advertised in other places. He went back to his car, talked with his passenger, came back and counted the money out--less 50.00. DH said no, the guy said that was all he had. DH told him he had other people coming in an hour, not to worry! The guy went back to the car, came back with 40.00. Dh said No, you knew the price before you came. He went back to the car and got he other 10.00. THEN he didn't have a vehicle to take the item!! He said he'd be back the next day. He didn't show up until 2 days later. We didn't care at that point because we had the money!! Some people are just jerks!!

Yep, I am trying to sell four barstools for $50 a piece. I’ve gotten 8 emails asking “$50 for all four?!?”. Sigh.

I don't have the energy to bother with selling on Craigslist or Facebook anymore. It's just not worth it. People are too stupid to understand a clearly written ad, if they even bother to read it. Then it's like pulling teeth getting them to show up. And when they finally do show up they try to change the terms of the deal. Nope nope nope. Pretty much anything I want to get rid of now I stick outside with a "free" sign on it or I'll donate it somewhere.
I am a member of several regional Facebook groups where people buy and sell horses. Lately I've noticed a new trend where the person posting the horse for sale says as the first line "Read the entire ad I will not answer questions that can be answered by reading the ad." And I love that! If the time ever comes that I am selling a horse I'm totally going to use that.

Last time I sold on eBay I put in capital letters that I would combine shipping, message me with items you are interested in and zip code and I would provide an exact shipping cost. Still got messages asking if I would combine shipping. Ugh!

It's the same on Facebook marketplace. I've been trying to sell an item for a while. It states twice in the listing that the price is FIRM but almost every message I get is asking if I will take less. And also, it says in the listing the only place where I will meet and nearly everyone who wants to meet says that is way too far for them to drive. OH MY GOSH HOW MUCH CLEARER CAN I MAKE IT??? It's maddening.

Whatever you do, don't ever try Facebook Marketplace. I usually try just my town's two sites on FB, but I accidentally clicked on Marketplace when it asked if I wanted to post to more places. Holy cow. People were SO aggressive. I got tons of responses, including things like "I can only pay XX (less than my price) because I have to drive far to get to you" and a guy who was PMing me all day about an item that was pending pickup, asking me if the person had gotten it yet and could he have it.
I had good luck on the two local garage sale sites, maybe because my town is not all that big and we are likely to run into the other people! Keeps people more honest, I think.
I just hate it when people flake out on me, esp. if someone responds within minutes, says they can get it at the requested time, and then tries to reschedule after not showing up.

I know what you mean. DH wanted a larger, more expensive toy out of the garage that DD had outgrown. It was used but in really clean, completely working condition. Similar things like it normally sell for around $150 used but he wanted the thing GONE so he listed it for $75. Someone came and bought it right away and paid what DH was asking for it, but I got stuck dealing with her because I was the one at home at the time. A MONTH LATER the lady’s husband called my phone, saying he wanted to bring it back and get his money back because they couldn’t figure out how it worked. WTF? Dude, seriously? This isn’t a store. You bought a USED thing on Craigslist for HALF the going rate! If you decide you don’t want it after you’ve had it for a month and are too dumb to look online for the manual to figure out how it works, list it online somewhere yourself for what you paid for it and sell it to someone else! Needless to say, DH didn’t give the dude his money back. How stupid.

What we normally run into is people posting things for sale on Craigslist and then they don't want to sell it! At least 4 times, DH or I have tried to arrange to purchase and pick up an item, only to have the seller say they'll get back to us, then disappear!
Do you still have the item listed? Yes. Okay, I am willing to pay the asking price and would like to buy it. Great. Where and when can I pick it up? Then nothing but crickets...

It is not worth any amount of money to me to deal with the general public in this way. My jobs are poop, vomit, and blood. My DH's jobs are spiders, lizards, high up things, and Craigslist. I know 100% I have the better end of this deal.

before i moved last summer I put my refrigerator on Facebook for sale. It was an expensive fridge, maybe $2300 new and it was maybe three years old. Just wanted to get rid of it so was asking $800. Someone offered me less, maybe $600, so I said yes and we arranged a time. He and his buddies came over and took a look. Said they would only pay $500 because the handle was loose. Uh, no. It's supposed to be like that. this fridge was in perfect condition and clean. At the last minute I asked my daughter and her DH to come over because I got to thinking hey I'm a single woman and he's a stranger...i just got a little worried. I am so glad that i did because he and his buddies obviously thought women were stupid. My SIL kept telling him no, he knew the price when he came over and I had actually already agreed on at the price. He gave us a sob story about how he had to spend $40 to rent the truck to take it home. I was just so thankful that SIL was there. He finally grudgingly paid the $ and took it.
Oh, we did tell him that if I didn't sell it before my moving day that I would just take it with me and sell it from my new house. He obviously was thinking that i was desperate to sell it. So stressful!

Ugh, yes. I have recently posted 2 different advertisements. Both with location clearly stated. I have had approximately 10 messages asking me where I'm located.

Amen!
I just sold four LLR outfits on a local FB yard sale site. I had the sizes of each and every piece listed. "LLR blue and red Perfect Tee size Medium w red, white, and blue OS leggings." I figured the person buying would know her size in these things. Right? I also wrote "outfits $20 for the set. Will not separate." At the very bottom I make it clear that I can only meet in either X or Z and posted in the FB page for that area / neighborhood.
The first comment I receive was, "What sizes are these and I'd like all the leggings please." Um..... no.
And five minutes after it is posted I get...."Will you take $50 for all of them?" Umm....no. I have four outfits at $20 EACH.
Another question, "How do these run?" "Can you meet in Y?" Um, that is over the mountain from where I said I would be willing to meet.
To the woman that asked about the sizes, I just copied and pasted my exact listing in my comment to her. I mean, how much more clear can I make it? I sometimes wish I had the guts to reply with "Did you even read the listing or are you just stupid?"

I was just discussing this exact thing with my sister-in-law this weekend. My husband and I have stuff we need to sell, and have been absolutely dreading it. At least I know I’m not alone in my first-world suffering, lol.

Dh builds his and Ds mountain bikes. There so so many extra bike parts about. Dh wanted to sell them but kept putting it off because of all of the above. He finally motivated to list a few items and much to our shock and surprise we have had no shenanigans. He got bold and list some other items...and the illiterate, the sob stories, the flakers etc showed up in droves. After dh grew back his own ears that he had gnawed off, he vowed that he will only sell bike parts, and declared that apparently mountain bikers remain the only decent people out there.

If it didn't my next message would be "I charge X amount of money for lessons".

all the horror stories of trying to sell stuff on line reinforces my decision not to sell on line - I will donate it to our church to sell at their annual garage sale.
