Tell me how the flys are getting into my house? I need to figure it out before the horseflies start in invading in a couple of weeks? ( the horseflies are from the neighbor’s cattle.
No windows are open. No food out.

I second a fly laying eggs in your plants or something similar. I think you have to be vigilant in killing the flies before they lay eggs.

Have you had an attached garage door open? That’s how they get in my house and I despise them.

I had heard this before. I haven't had to try it. You put pennies in water or in a baggie with water. Pennies and flies

Flies can squeeze through the tiniest of openings. Closed widows and doors are not enough. There may be tiny openings in the attic or basement. Do you have a doggy door? Space under the door?

No basement, doggie door, no open door.
I have one window that bugs seem to be attracted to. I think I am going to spray the edges with cinnamon oil.
The garbage cans are on the opposite side of the house.
I dump the complete litter box every few days. The parrot dishes are dumped and cleaned every day.
Keep the ideas coming. Somebody is going to get it right.

They come in when you open doors to go in/out.
They can also come in through bathroom vents/stove vents/water heater vents.

A fly in our house means a good 30 minutes of entertainment for our puppy. It almost always dies quickly. Luckily we don't have many insects around.

One of the cats will watch them buzz around. I'd be happy to loan you a sassy, short fly/moth killing machine. She seems to be good with birds. Most of them are bigger than her.

I have infestations at times. We had a discussion here before about cluster flies. That’s gonna be my guess.

Ugh this drives me nuts and somehow we've let in a few over the past few weeks. The door is always open just a few seconds too long when I take dogs in and out.

They are horrible here this year. But not inside, they are all over the shrubs outside near my front porch. I've never seen them so bad. I've been spraying that yard fogger stuff on my shrubs daily to kill what I can. One occasionally comes in when one of the kids opens the front door. I've found that when they land on the window, if you spray them with window cleaner, it slows them down enough to catch and pitch them.

Is there a demonic presence in your house? Are we talking typical house flies or fruit flies?

What gets me is how they get in through the teeniest gap when the windows are open yet when I fling the windows wide to encourage them out, they have no idea where the opening is.

We have one of these. They are really pretty, but they WORK. They even work on those little fruit gnats. We did find that flies and gnats like wine or soda much better than vinegar. Incidentally, if you ever get the little gnats, pouring bleach down the drains before you go to bed at night will help get rid of them. They like to lay eggs in tub and sink drains. The bleach kills the eggs/larvae. glass fly jar

Cover all your drains to prevent them from being able to breed.
I thought this was a crazy, oversimplified suggestion from a friend but it works!!

Fly eggs are really small and can be brought into the house so easily. Gross, I know, but it happens. And each fly egg batch can have up to 150 flies in it. I had a renter years ago that owned horses. I came home from work one day to find him sitting at the bottom of the stairs very upset that his room had flies in it. I figured there might have been 2 or 3 at the most and thought that there must be a hole on the window screen. I opened the door to his room to see what he was so upset about and there was over 100 flies in the room! They were sitting all over the window ledge and screen. I knew this was a fresh hatch because they were smaller flies and they were not moving very fast. I just vacuumed them up which was easy since they were not flying much yet.
He was still livid and saying that “someone” did this to him. Knowing that he had horses, I opened the closet door and lifted his boots up. Sure enough, there in the area between the edge of the heel and the bottom of the boot was a bit of matter filled with little brown casings. They were also all over the carpet where the boots had been sitting. I explained that he had to have walked in some horse poop that a fly had laid eggs in. Since he always removed his boots before getting in his car and then carried them upstairs to his room, I told him to go look in his trunk. Yep, flies in there too. He was so embarrassed that the “someone” that brought all the flies into his room was himself.
He said he started checking his boots as soon as he took them off and began keeping them in a clear plastic zipper bag in the closet from then on. I was just glad that they were too new to fly all over my house.
