Is it your cat?

I've heard all kinds of things from putting out various seasonings or essential oils, but none of those deter my cats from going where they want (for me, I was trying to prevent them going out the doggy door). The best luck we have had is with SSSCat, which is basically motion activated canned air. You might need two to cover your car though.

Is the cat confined to your property? If it’s just on your property, try a motion activated sprinkler set up next to your car. If that or sprinkling spices around your car doesn’t work, I would put a tarp over your car. If you live close to neighbors, I would do everything possible including confining the cat to make sure it’s not causing the same problems elsewhere.

Do you have a farm with a barn, and the cat lives there to keep down the mouse population? Basically any other reason you have an outdoor cat is ridiculous. My advice? Don't worry about it. The cat will be dead within a couple of years as an outdoor cat. Get over yourself and your new car, you're letting a living thing be subjected to way worse conditions than a few scratches and paw prints.

Oh lovely, I just went and looked through your post history to see if, indeed, it might be a farm cat.
You breed pitbulls in your backyard too, and have at least 3 of them. Cat is going to be dead within 9 months. Lovely.

Although not your business, shes been around for 2 years. Showed up one day...was pregnant. Found homes for the kittens, had her fixed and shes been around since. She has sheds to go in out of elements and we feed her daily. So jump down off your high horse how we are exposing her to such awful things.

But they've been there 2 years? When the puppies, that you were keeping 2 of, were born in September? Get out of here with your "Staffordshire bull terrier" BS. Everybody knows a pitbull when you see them. Putting your white trash fancy name on the breed doesn't make it not backyard breeding.

Good God, this went downhill fast. I don't know how to keep a cat off a car but our outside cats (ages 17, 6, 3 and 1, and 3 of the 4 were drop-offs) also like to climb on them. I'm guessing it's hard to get a cat do to (or not do) anything they want to.

Wow. Some people just have nothing better to do than be nasty and bitter. I don't get it. I mean we all have days I guess but with some people acting ugly is a pattern.

Get a car cover and be sure to cover it every time you park. Or build a garage. Sometimes you have to decide what is priority to you.... a cat allowed to roam free or a car without paw prints.

I had one like these. Not terribly hard to put on a small car (geo metro) Maybe harder if you have a taller vehicle. It does keep paw prints off and helps some with sratches. The biggest problem was taking the darn thing off when it was wet and wrestling it in the trunk with other stuff. It is like a super sized fitted sheet make out of a tarp. www.carcovers.com/covers/cars.html

Good luck w/that. Cats have a mind of their own don't they? My son leaves his truck at work for the week while he works out of town. He often comes home with giant kitty prints on his truck hood and windshield. Pretty sure it is a family of bobcats that dance on it.

If you live close to neighbors, I would do everything possible including confining the cat to make sure it’s not causing the same problems elsewhere. I'm not trying to jump in on the sh!t show part of this thread, but I just wanted to echo the above statement. I know people love their pets, but it's really not fair to the rest of us who don't get a choice.

Shes not. We have 2 acres and she sticks around the house. Only one "neighbor" and never once have they said a word about her over there If you live close to neighbors, I would do everything possible including confining the cat to make sure it’s not causing the same problems elsewhere. Putting aside the unnecessary nastiness, many cats don't like strong smells, like cayenne pepper or essential oils. I'm not sure how you can work that into a car though. Do you know what your cat doesn't like? Maybe smear some peppermint oil over the bumper and wheels. Keep it away from rubber parts or the paint though, obviously. I don't think it would damage chrome or metals though? DH suggests testing it on an underneath part first.

I have found several large poos on my cement under my deck this summer and I finally emptied the pool. The next morning, the empty pool had some nice teeth marks on the edges. Someone wasn't happy that their drink was empty.
