I don't because I find photo realism paper is too distracting...I remember when it was kind of trendy in 12x12 a few years back but it just worked for me.

I find these types of papers difficult to use too, for the most part. I do like the wood grain and painted papers, as they give a fairly neutral background for certain types of photos, but for the most part papers featuring flowers and landscapes and sunsets I find are difficult to use.
I also don’t like the pattern papers that have quotes printed in the middle of the page, that fill up most of the page. Aside from framing the paper and hanging on the wall, I don’t really see how you could use this. If you put any sort of photo on the page it would cover part of the quote. Very strange.

I like the general mood setting shots: summer sunsets, snowdrifts in sunshine, autumn leaves on a branch, a field of ripening wheat. If it is an all over pattern, I can use it like any other background for one or two pic's on a page.
And I don't mind if the same kind of image is reduced to 4x6 cutaparts to be used as the background for card fronts.
But have no idea what to do with a page that has a giant snowman on it (or any other eye catching image). Where does it leave room for ME???

I like ones that are just all trees, rocks, candy, seashells, things like that. I use them to matte photos so only a little bit is showing. I don't use the whole piece because I think it is distracting and the photo gets lost on the page.
I will use a wood slats or a brick wall, or something like that for a background.
I agree, the ones with the huge snowman, etc. leaves me puzzled. What are you supposed to do with that? It leaves no room for creativity.

i agree. i can use realistic cloud paper no problem, possibly even pine branches or pool water, something simple like that. but i'm sure we all remember the macaroni and cheese papers from days past. hells no on those types!
as for giant quotes and such, i scrap 8.5x11 so i definitely can't use those. which is fine, because i wouldn't know what to do with them anyway!

Hmm- so we're all in agreement that we don't use the big snowman photo real paper (or any other large item centered on the page). Are there any good examples of how we ARE supposed to use them? You'd think the manufacturers would give us some tips and page layout ideas to use their stuff.
I have a few photo real pps that came in stacks with regular pp- an old Christmas DCWV pad that has blue/white photo real snowy pine trees. Still in the pad, never used, no idea what to do with it. What was the designer planning on us doing with that one?

Who uses these? What do they use them on? Me! I'm not buying them anymore, but I have some in my stash from 15+ years ago, and I'm still finding ways to use them up. Some of the papers are awful, but I'm so determined! This month I used grass paper that I die cut into leaf shapes and doilies. They just look like shades of green. And I'm looking forward to getting some wedding photos printed so I can use some red rose paper as an accent color (a whole 1/8th of an inch) behind my photos. I have wood grain and pool water papers in my stash that I can see myself using. In fact, I pulled the pool water paper to use on a page for a current album, and I hope to get to it next month. I use the white on the reverse sides! And one day I'll get my spaghetti baby pages done I don't think it's the greatest idea for A/C to pour money into a trend that's seen it's heyday, but then, they didn't ask me.

I'm with msliz , this is an old trend. I know Kaisercraft has tried to bring it back to life several times over the past years but complete pads of photo real paper? Really? Who in their right mind?...
I mean, you're just buying matting paper if you're getting one of these. Very likely on super clearance.

Ah, but you're confusing USING a product (our focus) with BUYING a product (AC's focus) and I can see all kinds of people who love beautiful colors and images being convinced that they'll find a use for such a bounty of beautiful images. Especially people who don't take great photos, aren't particularly artistic, who don't actually scrapbook - people who don't make their own beautiful things, in other words. Not to say all people who buy these are those things, not at all. But I think a LOT of people who buy these pads will never use more than a sheet or two of them. Especially if they're on the racks at Joann's for 40% off.
I am totally one of the people who would have, at one time, been drawn in by these. I could barely even see the collage fronts of them on their site and my !Must-Collect-Beautiful-Colors! sense was activated. I got the heart eyes going and would've loved to page through all the designs. But now I know I'll never find a use for them unless I start wallpapering rooms with them... and I'm not into buying stuff I won't use any more.
But anyway, I don't think AC thinks hardcore scrappers like most of us here will use these for scrapbooking. But I think they'll sell to craft store wanderers.

i think some of them would look nice as a border (either full border around the page with cardstock or pp on top, or just a 3-4" strip on one side). the christmas ornaments, for instance. but yeah, no.
and i bet these are the types many beginner scrappers might go for.
no hate, i just have a hard time with them!
