So I will be taking DH today so he can get a vasectomy. Anything else I should know other than keep a bag of peas on it and rest?
Are there any complications I should be on the look out for?
How long did it take before your guy was back on his feet?
TIA !
Update: He ended up not having it done today. Apparently, the skin on his scrotum is so thick that the dr couldn't even feel his vas. He was afraid to go in with a local anesthetic not knowing what was going on inside. DH almost threw up during the probing. Poor guy.
It was recommended that he go under general and have surgery that may involve taking the whole testicle out to get to the vas.
We are currently thinking about if condoms really are so bad after all...

Your DH should be good to go on Monday. Just make sure to stay ahead of the pain, if he has any. My DH had very little. Good Luck and enjoy the benefits!

My husband scheduled his around March Madness. He had it done on a Friday. I told him that I would wait on him completely for the entire weekend. All he had to do was watch basketball. He was not to move unless absolutely necessary. I would baby him and well, you know the drill. BUT, if he decided to do something stupid like stack wood or move the washing machine, all bets are off. He was up and moving and back at work on Monday. It was really no big deal. I will caution you that once you get the all clear, your sex life will be off the charts. There is nothing like post V sex. Just say'n.

BF found that compression shorts and a strap helped post-surgery to minimize unpleasant jiggling, especially at the gym. This won't be an issue for a few days, but both really helped him while things healed. From my perspective - BEST. SURGERY. EVER. I wanted to send his doctor a thank you card.

I would suggest having an ice pack ready to go. My ex-husband's scrotum swelled up a lot.

Wear something comfortable like sweats to the appointment.
Use another form of birth control until the count comes back clear! DH's grew back together TWICE!!!

make sure that bag of peas is wrapped in a towel and not touching his skin. when DH had it done, he didn't realize the cloth had slipped and the frozen pack was against his skin- everything was too numbed to tell apparently. he frostnipped his nuts and they were red for days!

If you encounter whining - remind him that you have pushed _ tiny humans out! In all seriousness, the biggest complaint that I recall was anesthesia, but those drugs are way better these days. Ice and rest.

Caution him that his junk will be PURPLE. Have moldable ice packs on hand. Don't let him do anything stupid.

My former BIL was so sure with his superior constitution he wouldn't be at all bothered by any recovery time. He did a 10 mile bike ride with a bunch of Boy Scouts that weekend. He paid dearly for that decision. To be fair he rides 50 miles or so all the time but not a day out from surgery!

Use birth control until tests come clean. I have many friends with post V babies.
And two friends where it grew back together. Rare but it does happen.

My ex got it done. It was 24 years ago so I can't remember details but I don't remember any problems. The only thing I regret about it is that I didn't get my tubes tied.... but then again I wouldn't have my youngest daughter. I did get my tubes tide after she was born.
I would get multiple bags of peas. The warm up fast. I would also tell him to wear light weight baggy shorts or sweats. He shouldn't wear underwear for a few days until the swelling goes down.

I'm sorry they couldn't do it for your DH. Since surgery under general anesthetic is required, maybe you two should talk about a tubal ligation for you. Vasectomies are usually done because it's a much easier and less risky procedure than a tubal ligation. But, in this case, it sounds like it would be riskier for your husband to have a vasectomy than for you to have your tubes tied.

It was not too bad. In the hospital in the am. Surgery and home by about 1pm. I had some cramping the first day. By the next day, I was still a little sore but was fine. I took it easy over the weekend.

Yikes, that sounds pretty bad. I'm sorry it couldn't be the simple snip that it is for most men.

Well I'm glad I didn't post my earlier thought, which was don't let him whine, it's no biggie. Thick scrotum skin, who'd of thunk it.

Maybe look into Essure for yourself. Mine was done in the dr's office with just heavy painkillers. No one going under. And the recovery was nothing! I was just down the day of the procedure - up and at 'em the next day.

Wow - no kidding, not a great update. Hope there is a better solution than the initial one the doctor recommended.

I had Essure done as well in the dr's office. I was off work for one day because of the meds they gave me. It was a very simple procedure with no surgical recovery time.

Perhaps your husband is a bit too sensitive? Mine wouldn't care, considering we're "strangers" and all that.

Eassure didn't work for me. One tube blocked and the other one didn't. I ended up having to go under general to have a traditional tubal done.
My OB swears I am a one in a million case and hasn't had it happen to anyone else. Lucky me!
Sorry it didn't work out!

See, when the day comes for my husband to get shipped, this is NOT something I will say until we're on our way home. Lol! With my luck, the word "purple" would be all it would take for him to back out.
