I know some people said they wanted or did order the doorbell camera on prime day. I was just wondering if there were thoughts and opinions on them.

My dh did the electronics for the Ring. We have one and love it. It does lag. But it saved us when people were breaking into our house and we were able to run home before they got out with anything.

We love it. There is a few seconds lag but otherwise, it works fine. We've recommended it to many people.

Good to know. There are mixed reviews all over the place. At some point I'd like to get the vivit system, but for now, ring should work.

A lot of people post their Ring and Nest doorbell cams on my Nextdoor, and I can say the quality of the Nest is WAY better than Ring.

We got the Ring doorbell, 2 additional cameras (for the back and side yards) and then 2 solar chargers. My MIL was moved into a home and we had to secure her home as we lived 200 miles away. It was awesome. We kept an eye on the house, stopped people leaving their fliers on the door and answered the doorbell when they rang. Found out the neighbor was snooping around the house - one morning we asked if we could help him - he got spooked and then only wandered in the front yard to "see the view" of the golf course LOL Best thing for us - when we had the house listed for sale, we heard a potential buyer tell her realtor to low ball us because she wasn't paying full price. We told our realtor that they'd be coming in with a low ball and why we knew. They did, we refused, and we took the full price offer the next day Next day our realtor bought a system for her house! LOL

I'm glad to see the good reviews. I bought one on Prime Day but it's still in the box. Haven't had time to install it yet.

I have the Nest Hello doorbell and am really happy with it. We don't pay for the subscription (stores up to 30 days of video feed), but you get a free trial during the first month. I noticed our lag issues were better when we had the subscription than when we didn't. Without the subscription it keeps 3 hours. When our 19-year-old neighbor who was cat-sitting for us showed up with a girl last week, I was quickly able to text him and say "Everything ok at the house? I see you brought someone with you." He says it was his cousin. I don't care, all I know is I was able to see him leave within 5 minutes, LOL.

I've done some reading on this (more specifically cameras INSIDE the house) as it relates to real estate transactions, and there's a fairly strong legal case in most states that you can't record the audio of a potential buyer without explicitly notifying them. It has to do with number of parties that need to consent to audio recording (much like phone recordings) and expectation of privacy. I think the doorbell camera is a much more gray area, because one could argue there is no expectation of privacy at a front door, especially when the doorbell camera is clearly visible, but I thought it was a really interesting discussion. It's pretty clear that inside the house, recording audio isn't allowed in most places unless you are really really clearly pointing out the recording devices.

We didn't record them per se - we watched it live. The cameras were all in plain view (on the side and at the back) and they stepped into the back yard to discuss (no cameras were in the house, though if she had continued to stay at home with caregivers that would have been next). Funny enough, another realtor looked up and said "by the way, they have a security camera system so we'll talk outside" so they were aware. The entire system was also listed in the real estate listing as "not included in the price" so realtors had another heads up. Certainly a heads up if you're out looking at houses in the future because I'm sure a lot of the new technology isn't visible.

I bought one last year and at first it worked great and then suddenly I was getting a black screen for video. I ended up doing a lot of research online for the fix (admittedly I never called Ring's customer service). I ended up having to make an adjustment on my router. Of course, I can't remember what it was that I did, but it now works beautifully.

A question for those who have Nest: Did you use the “find an installer” search on the web site? We are not handy and don’t even want to attempt it ourselves.

I'm sure I'm naive but I really don't care who is at my door when I'm gone or in my yard or what buyers think or any such thing. I just moved and people are posting all kinds of "warnings" on the neighborhood FB group about kids walking around or a lady going through trash or pics of deer in back yards. It creeps me out more than the kids or the trash lady, that's for sure.

We are handy and attempted to install it ourselves, which would have been easy if we had one doorbell chime, but we have two and the wiring was kind of unusual. Nest actually sent someone out, on their dime!!! (We preordered and their instructions for installing with 2 chimes were extremely limited.) It was one of their contracted installers, and he did a great job. I wouldn't hesitate to use one of the Nest pros. My mom has Ring, we have Nest, and honestly they are both great. I don't see a lot of advantage of one over the other, so I went with Nest since I was already in the Next ecosphere with our thermostats (and they were throwing in a free Google Home... Nest is owned by Google - and now I've since ordered 2 more Google homes.... they've got me.)

I'm pretty sure we can trust him, but just in case, this would alleviate suspicion if something happened. Really, though, my living room is in the back of the house. Neighbor kids come by to play with my youngest and he lever hears the door. It would be nice to not have to get up to answer every time.

My doorbell is on the side wall, so it needs to not need to be hardwired.

We have the Blink Camera System and love it. Pictures are so clear, even things in the distance. It was also easy to install; just screwing-in the brackets. Cameras run by battery. They've been running for about 3 months now and we have not changed the batteries.

We bought our Ring in June and have been very pleased with it. We went ahead and bought one for our house in WV so that we could easily keep tabs on who stops by and see when the guy we pay to cut the lawn comes by.

It creeps me out more than the kids or the trash lady, that's for sure. This is why I want a door camera: I generally don’t answer the door when I’m home unless I’m expecting someone. A few weeks ago we had a suspicious incident. I was home alone and I heard the mailbox slot opening (we have a locked mailbox but the flap is noisy). I then heard our screen door open. It was time for the mailman and he puts flat packages between the doors for us. Not suspicious at all, but then I thought I heard the front door knob being turned. By the time I got to the door, no one was there. I knew it wasn’t the mailman because I saw him come later and asked him about it. We called the police to let them know. I would just feel more comfortable being able to see who’s at the door now.

We have a Ring. We built a house on 10 acres. Some of our neighbors are still building so there is a lot of activity some days. It’s great to ask someone live what they need. We have had construction guys asking to use our house, to guys dropping off business cards. Ours is positioned that we can see our whole front yard into the road and the majority of our driveway.
I can see when my kids have let the dogs out. I can see when the house cleaner has come and gone. We absolutely love it and wouldn’t not have one again. It does give a peace of mind. We had someone show up a couple weeks ago and missed the ring (my phone app lags sometimes) and didn’t know who he was so I ran home to make sure everything was ok. All was well. Well, two days later he showed up again and my DS happened to be home. He was looking for work since our neighbor is building and wanted to know if we knew anything 😣 But glad it was innocent.

Those of you that have them, do you have multiple other things that use your WiFi? Wondering if you’ve run into any interference wth other devices.

Those of you that have them, do you have multiple other things that use your WiFi? Wondering if you’ve run into any interference wth other devices. We have 20+ devices that all use our WiFi - ipads, IPhones, laptops, an Alexa in every bedroom (2 in our master bedroom) and in the basement, 2 Apple t.v.s, half a dozen smart plugs, our thermostat, and I’m sure I’m leaving things out. No problems with interference.

Hubby has an Echo Spot that is Alexa and I have an Echo Show that answers to Echo. We use them as our individual alarm clocks and noise machines for each of us.

It all makes my Luddite head want to explode. We don't even have a REGULAR doorbell (at least I THINK that's what people are talking about)
