We have faculty meetings Sept. 4 and 5; most of the kids start Sept. 6. I've been in a couple of times over the summer. I'll probably go in one day next week and one day the week before we start. DH's college starts the 27th.
I've been doing some lesson planning with a dear friend who teaches the same subject in a (very!) different school. It's been fun and laid-back, and there has been some wine involved. I'm so grateful that she prodded me into doing it - I won't have that panicky "OMG I'm starting too late!" feeling that often comes as August winds down.

Our school goes back this Wednesday, but teachers went back the Friday before that. I started teaching in the 80's and our schedule began late August. Through the years, districts tried to get more days in before the early March days of state testing that districts have been graded on for years. Poor scores meant your district could be taken over by the state. Then about 5 additional days of student contact days were added. Then the districts tried to get through the first semester and have their testing done before the winter holiday. All of those things combined mean a mid-August start date. Sucks, bit it looks like lots of states are dealing with the same stuff.

Not a teacher but know many. Band teacher started back to work at the end of July with band camp. While I was there dealing with uniforms, I noticed the office staff was there and most of the teachers were in and out. One band mom is also a teacher who moved to a different school. She couldn't move into her room until the last week of July. She's working a couple days a week. Back to school events are next week. School starts Tuesday after labor day.

i started officially last Thursday. But i began going into my classroom 7/31 --- every single day i didn't have a training. So the last 2 weeks I've gone in to either get my room ready or to a PD. My students start tomorrow.

DD went back 7/24. Her teachers were back 7/20. She gets a short summer but gets lots of nice breaks during the year that I do not get.

Dh went back 2 weeks ago (last week of July) for department chair, district math, leadership retreat, and on site meetings and this past Monday his district started.
Dd and ds started last Wednesday.
Both districts get out the first week of June.

We didn't get out for summer until June 14th. So I have 2 more weeks. We report on the 28th. Kids come back day after Labor Day.
I've been in my classroom on and off all summer, since I had to move classrooms this year. Lots to unpack and set up. Plus took a couple classes.

Institute days Thursday and Friday. Students start Monday.
We literally just returned from helping move our daughter one State over to grad school. Younger dd moves into college on Saturday.
I’m just a little stressed out.

Officially, the last Wednesday of the month. Kids start the Wednesday after Labor Day. But...things are not going well in many districts regarding salary negotiations. I will not be surprised if the "S" word starts popping up in the next few days, as last-ditch negotiations are happening through next weekend.

Students returned on Aug 3rd, so we are beginning our second full week of school. We have a so-called "balanced" calendar where we get a lot of breaks during the year. In fact August is the only month we actually are in school all month. Our first break will be Labor Day weekend.

We go back August 27 for preservice week. Lots of meetings about our School Improvement Plan and County initiatives as well as room set up, planning with our PLC and 6th grade orientation.
School starts after Labor Day.
I'm trying to enjoy that last couple of weeks of freedom!
