We are taking my parents to the Grandfather Mountain areas in October. We are looking forward to the fall colors and the mountains. We are staying in a cabin in Linville. So far we want to go to Grandfather mountain, the Lin Cove viaduct, Linville falls, and maybe the caverns.
What is good to see, what should we miss? Where are good places to eat?

There are alot of little mom and pop type places in the area that are good. Can't recall specific names but everyone I've been to has been great. Be sure to drive down Hwy 105, turn left onto Broadstone Road and go into Valle Crucis. They have the original Mast general store, the Mast store annex and candy barrel, clothes and gifts. They often have local bluegrass bands playing on the back porch or around the wood stove!

We drove from Linville Falls into Blowing Rock and loved the drive on the Blue Ridge. There is a good British pub in Blowing Rock that we love. I think GFMtn is between the two, but we didn't stop there. Linville Falls is a great trek and beautiful all on its own!
Haven't done much more but do want to get to GFMtn.

We stopped at Peppers near Linville once when we were very hungry. We had the 'Jean Lawson Special.' It was so good - maybe because we were so hungry, but we go to Peppers and have the JL special and fried mushrooms whenever we are in Boone. I don't know if the one in Linville is still open or not.

Famous Louise's Rock House Restaurant in Linville Falls is a good stop. It's very local - not fancy. Their grilled pimiento cheese sandwiches and a bowl of soup is my standard fall go-to . Also, Woodlands BBQ in Blowing Rock is good BBQ. Enjoy! Oh, and The Cone House is a great place to stretch your legs without a strenuous hike.
