Trying to plan a week on a house boat at Lake Powell. Does anyone know if I can use a crock pot? DH says he doesn’t think it’s a good since the boat is powered by a generator. It’s a house boat with like 6 bedrooms so I think it can handle a crock pot. Any tips?

How are you getting your power? By battery or solar? Ask the boat rental people.

My friend and her siblings did this last summer. They were on this lake not too far from us.i think it was fun, but I am not sure she would want to do it again. The togetherness was overwhelming. There were 4 adults and 4 children. There were oodles of bedrooms. It was one of those life experiences, I think.

I would not take a crock pot.. took much of a power sink. make quick easy and simple meals. the inverter would be draining power all the time.. and you should conserve power on a boat.

I would not bring a crockpot. The hours of power drain would not be fun when you wanted to have lights on at night. Or when you had to run a generator when you want quiet time. BTDT.

Only if you are going to be docked and hooked up to shore power, which isn’t the case with rentals in this part of the county.

A houseboat sounds like fun! Don't know much about staying on one but I do know a bit about generator power.
Heating appliances aren't generator friendly and long use ones are really not. Generators tend to be loud (the more power they produce the louder they are) and they are powered by another source such as gasoline. They are gas guzzlers. Save your generator power for running lights at night. I'd guess a house boat generator won't handle much more than that. But you don't want to be running it 6-8 hours a day.
Plan "cold" meals such as cereal or pasteries for breakfast, sandwiches/salads for lunch, and any hot meal needs to be a very quick heat up pre-cooked type of thing that can go in a pot and be hot in 10 minutes.

I wouldn’t. And I would be bringing solar lights.

It really depends on the boat, but with a 6 bedroom boat, it sounds like it is one of the nicer boats and many of those have hot tubs, TV, dishwashers, refrigerators, etc, so one crock pot doesn't sound like it would hurt. Maybe you could go to the website of where the boat will be rented from and see if they have any information that would be helpful.

Never rented a house boat, but we spent time at Lake Powell last year and it was amazing!! We really enjoyed our time there and even took the boat tour out to rainbow bridge.
We have a travel trailer, which probably gets its power the same as a houseboat. If it’s run by a generator and your crock meal takes 8hrs to Cook, then the generator will be running for 8hrs to power it. Generators take gas which is VERY expensive on the lake. Most houseboats have bbq grills, so that’s probably a much cheaper, easier way to cook.
