Move to the city. Live on the top floor of a building without a lift/elevator. Don't own a car and use your feet + public transport to get around. Do small groceries daily-ish and haul it back home on foot. Go for lunch on foot. Go to the post office on foot. Forget the fresh baguette and head back downstairs to go the bakery on foot. Etc.
I hit at least 12 000 steps daily without working out. With a 30-minute workout (6 days per week), I'm looking at 16 000 steps comfortably. It's very normal for me.

Thanks for all the answers. I’m just starting this journey, so it’s an adjustment. It’s just discouraging to feel like I’m moving so much more than I used to and still missing that 10,000 by several thousand. But, as I do more I’ll be able to go further. 😊 I would concentrate on getting say, 7,000 steps/day for 2 weeks, then increase it by 500/day each week. Slowly build up to it. Good luck! I work out at the gym for a bit over an hour 5 days a week and still may not hit 10,000 steps. If I do the bicycle instead of the elliptical.

We averaged 8 miles a day without much effort on our recent vacation. I miss living in the city for so many reasons and ditching the car is very high on that list.

I used to office downtown and got a lot more steps without trying. From the garage to the building, up and down between floors, out to the food court at lunch, taking a quick 15 walk at lunch, etc. Now I am in a remote location where the restroom is 30 steps away and the water cooler/microwave is 20 steps. It's remote, so no where to go walk except outside around the parking lot and it has been too hot for that. Free parking is nice, but sometimes I miss downtown.
I try to walk in the neighborhood in the evening, but it's hard to hit that sweet spot between "cooling down" and "too dark". I need to just get back to the gym.

Weather (and knee) permitting I will walk around my building in the morning and afternoon. Takes about 10-15min. I park far away in the parking garage. We also have an indoor 'vitality' trail on our first floor that we can utilize. When I can, I reserve the tread desk for an hour. We have 1 for the whole building so time on it is hard to come by. Otherwise I sneak in extra steps, for example I'll do a lap around the floor before hitting the bathroom. Those steps can add up. I don't have a problem getting my 10k/day at home but at work, where I'm sitting all day, it's challenging.

When I got the Fitbit end of July I set 5,000 as my goal. When I realized I was consistently hitting it, I upped it to 6,000 for September. I also started a couch to 5k program, so some days I’m hitting that 10,000. 😊

I honestly don't count steps because some days when I do yoga I get plenty of exercise without getting in 10,000 steps. On my run days I run 3 miles so I get over 10K. If you really want to get 10K look at ways to get them during the day. Take the long way to the printer or water faucet. Go outside every hour and just take a 2-3 minute walk. It will add up before you know it.

My networked printer is waaaay down the hall...I do a lot of printing lol!
Have you set your stride? That can make a difference in steps and you might actually being getting more than recorded.
