This morning, a neighbor's daughter, who has a one year old child, asked me if I would like to adopt her unborn baby. I'm still not sure if she was serious or not.
This afternoon, my MIL decided she really, really wants to live in our neighborhood so she had me drive her around to look at what's available. She found a place not in a direct line of sight.
This evening, I came to the conclusion that my dh has been suffering through a midlife crisis for the last 22 years. He's only 45.
And to think that I woke up this morning figuring I'd be bored all day.

When you say “in your neighborhood” do you mean like, in your culdesac (I live in one so that’s my frame of reference) or do you mean town? Because if you mean culdesac, I would flip the f out if I were you. 😱. My in laws live 6 minutes away, and honestly that is too close most days. My father in law decided to pop over at 9am because he wanted to use our super fast internet to upload his photos to Shutterfly. I was not happy (because the house was a wreck and I was still in my pjs and working on photos for a client).

What a day, indeed. Never complain about the fact that you think that you'll have a boring day, because I'm convinced it comes back to bite you. Will you dh communicate w/you in order to work through your struggles as a couple?
Chocolate makes bad days much better.

My son is looking at buying a house that is maybe 1/4 mile away. Why? Why would he do that?
OP, are you in the market for a newborn? That is a weird thing to joke about.

? OP, are you in the market for a newborn? That is a weird thing to joke about. Sometimes this is hard to figure out. My friend had somebody offered to buy her baby. He pulled out his checkbook. She laugh. His wife stared at her, and said, we will give $250,000 for that baby. They weren’t joking.

The baby story:
We've known this family for 12 years. The majority of the time they are quiet, normal people, but every once in a while, they take the "fun" out of disfunctional.
Yesterday was that day. The daughter is living with the dad and step-mom for various reasons. She's in her 20's. They got into a fight and dad told her to leave. Daughter accidentally locked her keys in her car and came to me for help, which was fine - I've told the kids they could always come to us.
She was horribly upset, baby was so tired and upset, so I took him while my DH went up to see what he could do. It took him a while, but he finally got it unlocked.
They come back here, the baby had fallen asleep with his head under my chin, and she commented he never cuddled or just fell asleep. She was so agitated that I made her sit down and talk.
She was taking the baby to his paternal grandparents while she would be sleeping at various houses for a few weeks.
We were just sitting there talking and all of a sudden, she touched her stomach and asked "would you want to adopt a baby?" I looked down at the baby and she said "not him, this one".
I looked at my DH and kinda laughed then said "oh, I don't know".
30-40 minutes before she left - someone came and picked up the baby. Nothing else was said about her question, but I feel like if I had said "yes", I'd have a newborn living with me in 2-3 months.
DH and I talked about it - we both agreed that we'd say yes, but then we would have to move out of the neighborhood.
Whew! Here's to a normal day of my kid bitching about having to learn things he'll "never have to use in the real world"!!

I know people joke about it with good friends or if they are having a really hard day with a kid but not with people who are left wondering what you really mean.

That’s so sad how desperate that poor couple must have been my mom told me that her uncle and his wife asked several times for one of my grandparents babies and my grandad said yeah and then told them no when the child was born, once was the 3rd child and their first boy so I think they thought we can’t take the boy but then when the fourth was a girl they asked again. And were devastated particularly as he had said yeah during the pregnancy afterwards they adopted a little boy but the mom died when he was only 2 or maybe 3

My DS just bought his first house. It's a 5 minute drive from our house. I promised him I wouldn't just stop by without notice, lol

My stepdaughter lived about a 7 minute drive away. I loved it! But we were all super respectful of not just popping by, for the most part. She's now about an hour away, and I really miss having her so close.
