whether you've turned off the car or not?
I miss that sure feeling of "I'm holding the keys in my hand, and therefore I'm certain the engine is not running."
A couple of times a week I sit for just a second, perplexed about this issue after I put the car in park.
Did I push the button? The radio is still playing. The air conditioner is still blowing, so I can't HEAR the engine...
Go ahead, mock me...
Maybe this will be a revelatory thread like when a pea taught us about the gas cap arrow indicator.

Well I've yet to leave my car running so I guess it's not an issue for me. I love not having to always have my keys in my hand.

My best friend had this and I do not, I occasionally drive her car and I usually have to open the car door to assure myself that I have turned it off.

At first I did. My car has a really annoying beep if you walk away with the keys and the first few times I had no idea what was going on.
This doesn't help if you leave the keys in the car, though. I know some people do if they have a garage attached to their house.

I end up in a crazy loop where I keep turning it off and on. I hate it, though I love everything else about my car

My car says goodbye as well, but sometimes for whatever reason I don't put my car in park and forget, which is weird because I have never done that before..just with this keyless stuff. then I think it is off and it's not... so yeah.. you are not alone.

While out running errands I have come back to my car to find it still running not once, not twice, but three times.
eta: I don't remember if it was locked or not, I did take the keys with me. I do know mine won't lock if the key is still in the car. I found this out on vacation when we had the spare key packed in a bag inside the suitcase underneath everything in the back of the car. I had forgotten it was there and kept trying to lick it to no avail.

Open your car door - if the car is off those things will stop. If it's still on, those things will stop!

I've had my push button car for about a year and a half now. I love it!! I've almost forgotten to shut it off a few times in the beginning. Once at our Dollar Tree, my DD (who has a driving permit (learner's)) drove and we both got out and went in and shopped. I must not have heard the 3 beeps when we walked away. We come out of the store and the car is still running. Luckily we live in a pretty small town, so all was ok.

My push button has a small green light when it's running. The fan turns off if the car isn't running, the radio stays on until to door opens, just like with a key turn car. I press park and off in one motion. DH presses park then sits there and gathers his things, take off seatbelt. Then sometimes goes to get out and hasn't turned it off.

With my car it beeps twice if you leave the keys in. This includes in the ignition. Ask how I know. lol!

But if you have your keys on you no one could drive off with your car because there would be no key detected. They could get inside if it wasn't locked and steal things.

Stupid space cars.
I just got a new car and fortunately I'm used to shutting off DH Jeep, so hopefully I won't leave it on. We'll see.

I had forgotten it was there and kept trying to lick it to no avail. I discovered it when I tried to take my extra fob with me to the park to go running. I thought I'd be smart and have just the lightweight fob tucked in that tiny little waistband pocket of my running skirt. Instead, the car wouldn't lock because I also had my regular key ring with me and it was in the car. So I had to carry BOTH on the run. Totally defeated the purpose. Ha. I do love the push button ignition through and the touch-activated unlock and lock feature on the door handle. Now that I am used to them, I wouldn't want to go back to a car without them.

There will be no mocking coming from this direction. None at all. You see...I had a flat out panic when I got to work one day and could NOT figure out how I was going to unlock the door because I left my keys (the door key is on the same ring as my truck "key") at home. OMG. What am I going to DO?! I have a closing in a few minutes. Not enough time to go back home and get the keys. I'm going to have to wait until they arrive then explain I have to go home to get the key to unlock the door. Holy shit. I'm going to look like such a freaking idiot! All the while my new coworker was looking at me warily. (She should have just run away from this job at that point! lol) She summoned the courage to ask "Didn't your keys have to be in the car for you to start it? I mean...they're in there somewhere...right?!" Oh. Yeah. I guess so. FFS.

yes, but only because my other car automatically turns off. You put it in park and since it is electric it turns off.
About a year or so after we switched to electric cars we were on vacation and had a regular car. We were in Hawaii. Parked the car in the hotel lot and didn't go anywhere for 2 days. Come out to discover we are out of gas because dh forgot to turn off the car. It had run till it ran out of gas. oops! Now we both triple check when we get out of a car that isn't our normal ones!

Hasn't been an issue. It beeps if I get out without turning the car off. Plus, you can't lock the doors if the keys are left in the car. Great feature, no getting locked out.
Hate having to deal with ignition keys when we rent cars while on vacation. What a pain.

I know it's off because the radio turns off when I open the door. DH turns the radio off before he turns the car off - that's why he has left it running a few times.

So can I ask a question? With the fobby thing (haha).. can you start the car, take the FOB with you and lock it from outside, to warm up the car in the winter?

My radio and ac shut off when I turn the ignition off, so I can’t leave my engine running.
One funny story. A friend was drivIng my car, I was the passenger. We did this because I had to pick up something and I knew there would be no parking. So I jump out of the car, he drives off to go around the block, and I realize that I have the car fob! Luckily, the engine did not stop! He said the car was beeping at him though! Lol!

No - I won't mock you. I got a new car 2 weeks ago and it has so much new technology in it that I can barely drive it. The push button ignition is just one of my issues. LOL!

Regularly. Drives me nuts. It compounded by the whole start stop system too. The engine has been stopped because the car is still so it is very easy to forget. It makes a obnoxious noise if you open the door to get out.And it takes several attemps of starting and stopping fir everyone and thing to agree its turned off.
I can't understand why the car is not programed to turn off as long as its in park as you open the door and walk away!

OMG I thought it was just me. I had an incident once at work. It was a very stressful week. I got to work and got out of the car and the damn car kept beeping at me when I tried to lock the door with the button inside the door before I shut it. I finally said whatever and walked away. I work on a large college campus and park in a parking ramp on the edge of campus. An hour or so later I got a call on my office phone. It was the public safety department saying that they got my number from my AVI parking device. Apparently my car was unlocked and still running while in the parking ramp. ETA it was really weird as the darn keys were IN my purse with me the whole darn time. But the car stayed running.
