We had one a few years ago and a few things we did were. We covered all the walls in our garage, with black plastic. Then hung orange lights around. The food tables had black table cloths, the. I covered them in shimmery silver tulle then pulled that cob webby stuff over it on places to give it a smokey effect. We also got a hold of a bunch of milk crates, we stacked them in 3's wired it together then covered with plastic table cloths so those standing had so were to put drinks etc... In the punch bowl I froze water in a disposable glove to float as ice.

I'm probably in the minority, but I once had friends who threw a themed Halloween party. Theirs was a pirate thing. I loved not having to stress about the kind of costume to wear.

In college I had friends that did a themed party and it was much more fun, eg they had come as your favorite dead person (historical person) or one year, your favorite cliche. My favorite part is that most would make their own costumes and got creative versus buying a sexy xyz costume from party city. Everyone loved going around and trying to figure out what people had dressed like so it was also a conversion starter. That and they did a cool dry ice punch effect so it was pretty awesome.

We are planning our 4th Halloween party. I get lots of ideas from Pinterest for decorations - huge spider made from garbage bags, ghosts made from muslin and hung over balloons with a glowstick inside them, lots and lots of decorations from the cheap shops and I even make lots of stuff with my Cameo. Halloween fabric for tablecloths, black cutlery/plates, punchbowl with floating hand, tombstone chocolate (used moulds), scary cake with graveyard and fingers....pet sematary(gravestones made from cardboard with crows attached) zombie hands reaching from the ground, even had a fake crocodile head floating in our pool!!
We usually just have a dress up theme, but this year are asking guests to come "dressed as a song title" If they tell us what their costume is going to be, I'll download the song from ITunes so that they can parade to "their" song! I have a playlist which is primarily Halloween/horror songs that we play on the night.
My husband is going as "Rock Lobster" and I'm going as "It's raining Men" Oh and my avatar is last years' effort so we don't always go scary. Corinne
