I sent DD a care package a few weeks ago that I thought was pretty cute. I just did some laundry supplies for her and put the "Do your Laundry Or You Will Die Alone" book in there. On the flaps of the box I printed "Hope you have loads of fun" and then printed "wash, dry, fold" and cut those out and attached those to the side flaps. Nothing fancy but she loved it. I'll try to find the pic and post it later.
I'm working on putting together another one to send later in the week. Trying to come up with some decent ideas and can't think of anything themed. I've got some other ideas for later in the year when it is closer to Halloween, cooler months, etc. I am thinking about doing a "smell and feel good" care package with some of her favorite scented soaps, some vitamins she needs, etc. Any ideas for some cute wording or other items to put in there? She's been trying to eat healthy and says she is doing well so far. I might put her protein bars in there too.
I cannot wait until l can send the Halloween box! Gonna be so cute!
Anyone else sending care package? Share what ya got!!!

My kids came home every weekend. They wanted to watch football with each other and game (and do their laundry for free and eat good meals). Other than food she likes that she doesn't have to buy (or gift cards/cash), I am useless.

A group of us mom's (6 of us) get together once a month and make care packages for our daughters who are just starting their second year. Each mom brings something to put in the boxes and some of the biggest hits have been: homemade goodies---caramel corn was especially popular; trial size beauty products (dry shampoo, mascara, etc); decorations around holidays; and, of course, gift cards.

I send care packages about once a month. Maybe more if they need something specific. But my kids won’t be home until Christmas, and DS didn’t even do that last year.
For September, I’ll send it Wednesday. It will mostly be full of stuff they forgot and a curtain for dd that I hemmed. But I’ll make some mini pumpkin bread this week and some tea that I bought yesterday, along with a tea strainer and cup for DS and honey for DD.
When I’m not sure what to send, I’ll make up some party mix sort of thing, with pretzels, Goldfish, M&Ms, etc, with melted white chocolate drizzled over it. Or spread graham crackers with white chocolate and add simulated items “glued” to the crackers. I also like to send bags of Bare fruit as a healthy snack.
I don’t usually do cute sayings. But I do put themed paper on the inside flaps of the boxes and tape them up with coordinating packing tape.

I saw DS1 yesterday for a home football game at his school. I made him a 'box of fall' and stuck stuff in there that we like for Fall. I made homemade banana nut bread, brisket empanadas, hot chocolate & coffee pods for his Keurig, a new long sleeve shirt with with his school on it, Dominoes gift card, new pack of Cards Against Humanity, caramels, some Cliff bars he likes and then included tickets to a outdoor concert he wanted to go to.

I just have a small flat rate priority box. As I come across stuff that she needs, I drop it in. Once there is something that she needs quick - important mail, etc, we fill up the rest of the box with candy, cookies, toiletries, whatever and then seal it up and send. It works out to be a package about every 6 weeks or so.

My dd is in second year, living off campus with 4 roommates and is turning 19 on the 20th. We bought her a tv for her birthday but I still want to send her something for the actual day. She is a type 1 diabetic so that limits all the junk food that I included last year.
So far I have Cosmopolitan magazine, Davids birthday cake tea, sugar free chocolates, nuts, crackers, grocery store gift card and starbucks gift card. I am also adding socks and some other stuff she forgot.

I send my daughter a Target Beauty Box almost every month and she likes trying the different items or shares them with her roommates if she wasn't interested. When she first went to college I would send her things from Amazon or some cash or a gift card in the mail. She liked that. When she would come home we'd send her back with a bag of snacks. Her friends always requested the Crispix cereal puppy chow mix. According to them I make it better than other people. I really don't think that's true, but it got me to make it for them.

I had fun dd's freshman year doing color themed care packages. And trying to find things that matched that color that were not more "stuff" to clutter up their tiny room. For yellow/orange I remember putting in a yellow body scrub thing (those scrunchy things), some yellow body bath, lemon bars, orange flavor Emergent-C, a lemony/citrus air freshener (one of those solid ones that emits its odor when you take the top off, since they weren't allow plug-ins), a yellow gift card, etc. And of course I'd use shredded paper and tissue paper as the packing, in whatever color it was. I always had fun trying to come up with a gift card that was the right color for something she could use. Thankfully there are enough different types of Walmart cards that I could usually find one that matched.

No care packages on my end. We already pay for tuition, housing and expenses which is as much of a care package as they are going to get.

DD's school sent us a letter from some group that sponsors care packages. They do one for every freshman for free- you just fill out the card that comes with the package. They ask you to order one additional package (or more) to help defray the cost of the freebie packages. I did that and ordered an extra one that gets delivered at some random surprise kind of time during the semester. They said the free one will be delivered soon after school starts- but so far, nothing has been delivered. They've been in school for three weeks. Beyond that, I will enjoy putting my own together. DD is a big fan of sample beauty products, face masks, teas, gum, I'll throw in a room decoration for whatever holiday is coming up. My sister is planning to do them too- I know she bought Kind bars DD loves, packets of instant oatmeal, Rice Krispie treats - I don't know what else she'll throw in there. Sometimes I just send funny cards with a note - and she loves getting those too. The day after we moved her in, DD had a mini-meltdown over forgetting a password and misplacing her glasses. It was this flash of 'I can't live on my own!' - and I felt really bad for her. I ordered a dot journaling set of books from Amazon and told her to give it a try. It's an artistic outlet, it's a place to make lists or write reminders- no rules. I told her there is some degree of comfort in seeing tasks laid out in front of you with a list you can add to and scratch off as you go. She got the delivery when she got back from classes on the first day and she was thrilled with it. (And she's been using it.) Amazon has been INCREDIBLE - the few things I forgot or didn't anticipate (hello waterproof backpack cover!) were delivered within a couple of days.

It was supposed to be there the first week and he's been there just short of a month.

Ds will be off to college next year, and I was starting to hyperventilate reading this as I realized I'm not that mom. I guess I can start thinking on it. He would probably dig it.

The first year I sent a couple. The second year I may have sent one. After that I just plain forgot! Except at Easter. My girls are both graduated and out of state and I always send them a solid chocolate bunny from Morleyls (local chocolate.).

If making up the packages isn't your thing, Amazon has them, as well as most colleges. Neither of my kids really enjoyed the care packages from the college, so I just do my own now. Once I was crazy busy and ordered one from Amazon that went over well.

Everyone has their own language of how they show they love someone. You'll do just fine and you will figure out what works for you & your kiddo. My DS would rather I make homemade goodies than send stuff. So that is what I do usually.

I'm going to make some of these to send to DD and her roommate. I found this recipe this summer and made them a couple times----SO good! Easy to make too. I would think they'd travel pretty well. www.centercutcook.com/jumbo-chocolate-chip-cookies/ I sprinkle them with a little sea salt right after taking them out of the oven. eta: I substitute 1/4 cup applesauce for the egg.

I bought these cute padded envelopes that hold quite a bit. May just send a few things then send a package w the brownies and stuff later. I think dd likes getting stuff from home and I like doing it. It gives me stuff to do on my day off.
