Our dog (George) is part Kommondor, which means his coat is supposed to mat into dreadlocks which are then maintained. His other half is great Pyr all of which means from his neck to about 3/4 of the way down his back is white curly hair that can be easily brushed. From his back hips to the base of his tail is hair that grows in as a mat, and no amount of brushing can untangle it.
The result is, we have to shave him every 6 months or so to keep the back mats under control. We had found a great place, with a groomer that we adored and who loved George in return. His hair also grows in front of his eyes, so we have his face clipped more frequently. We took him in about a month ago to have his face clipped and discovered our beloved groomer has moved on. We were sad but with no way of finding out where our favorite one had moved to, we used the one they offered us for clipping his face. She did well, seemed to have a good rapport with George so we took him in again this past weekend for his full shave.
He looks great, she did a competent job. But. She either nicked him, or hit something that caused him to bleed on the side of his cheek. She didn't mention it, and I didn't notice it until we were in the car. Then that evening he was sleeping next to me, rolled over and I saw what look like red bite marks on his stomach. We think they are flea bites as he's been itching like crazy but we assumed it was the mats. Now I've heard flea and ticks are bad this year, and I know he didn't get them from the groomer but this is the kind of stuff our beloved groomer would have told us about. She certainly would have told us if she handed him back to us BLEEDING. I'm sure it was an accident and I'm not pea livid by any means, but I feel like I should have been told hey he appears to have flea bites, you need to treat this.
I really want to go back and stress, that while she did a competent job, I would have appreciated a heads up and BTW he came back with blood on his fur and I'm sure she saw these bites on his stomach. I also really want to ask where our beloved groomer went as we will promptly return to her for his full shave. Do I say something to the company? We have had good luck with these guys, and they offer other services we do use. I'm ok having this groomer cut his face, but nothing else.
Im also on the hunt for how to treat his existing bites. Does Apple Cider Vinegar and water really work? Is there a cream? or go directly to the vet?
I hate feeling like a poor pet parent
