The home renovation shows make it look so easy! I'm painting my living room from dark brown to gray. I took down curtain rods, outlet covers, cleaned walls with tsp, got rid of old caulk on windows, cleaned window sills and I can barely move my arm to type this.....going to take it slow...20 years ago seemed much more fun! 50 is the new 30...

DH and I have a standing joke that you can “just slap some paint on it.” All the prep is what takes the longest. The actual painting is the easy part!

Consider using the Paint Zoom. You have to cover your floors but so worth it

For this reason, IMHO hiring a painting company is worth every penny! Otherwise, we live with the existing color(s).

Every time I paint, I spend the last few hours grumbling about how much I hate it and I’ll never do it again whine whine grumble grumble. And then the result always looks so much better that I inevitably get suckered into doing it again and again and again...

We’ve painted a lot since we moved in, it always sucked because I’m really short lol but the end result was worth it. Luckily we have hardwood floors, one time I took a break and came back to find little paw prints 🐾 on the floor... (the kitten and floor were fine ). I only have the bedroom and hallway left to do

My DS is a professional contract painter. Much as I love him I think he`s barking mad to love his job. I HATE PAINTING.

Kills my carpal tunnel. I can't do it. DD#1 bought a house in June, and she had all rooms repainted except the living room. It was a crew of 10 men, and they knocked it out in one day. She said it was worth every penny! I agree with her!

We’re about to be house hunting. I told dh we’re hiring painters to paint if needed (it’s usually always needed in at least a couple of rooms if not more) before we move in.

Back when we were younger, I'd prep, DH & I would paint, and he'd clean up. I hate cleaning brushes and he hates prep, so it worked ok.
Now that we are older, we hire it done. He's disabled and thinks I could still do it. Not a chance!

I’ve painted two accent walls in our house, a very similar shade to what was already on there. Basically to fill in and paint over nail holes. But it was a good reminder that I believe in bringing color in through our decor, and have no desire to paint any walls! Lol

I painted my first floor this summer. We’re still doing stuff and haven’t put things back up on the walls. I don’t think it’ll ever be done! Lol

And professionals take far less time than if we did it ourselves. Their freehand edging is far superior than ours too. I hate messing with that tape anyway.

I agree. Once I finally get started and I’m listening to a podcast or audiobook I can get into a zone and I’m ok. The process as whole, though, is such a pain in the ass.
I follow a blog with a woman who I swear repaints a room in her house at least once a month. I can’t imagine.

I like painting. I don't like the prep work. But I find painting itself to be quite relaxing for me. I just wish I could paint a room in a weekend. But doing ceilings and trim and waiting for them to dry and then I like two coats of paint on my walls, it just takes a lot of time.

I love the painting part. Love painting. But the prep is so much work. The clean up isn't quite as bad, but horrible enough.

It was a similar situation with me. They never saw me as an equal but as someone who should do the work. My boss saw through it quickly, but the university had to give them summer jobs for some reason. He decided to put us all in a different room to paint to see who was actually working.

Every time we get the quote, we can’t stomach spending that much, so we ALWAYS do it ourselves. Luckily, neither my DH nor I are very trendy with home decor. We’ve lived here for 25 years and have only painted about 3 times. The problem I have is that he doesn’t believe in painting closets. So I end up doing those.

We hire painters. We have vaulted ceilings, no way are we getting up on ladders.

One room at a time isn’t so bad, but I’m a clean painter. 2 weeks ago, DD and I did her bedroom. She did the outlets and light switch removal, and I painted. It took me about an hour and a half. I can cut in and trim clean and steady, so I don’t need to tape off.
If I had more than 2 rooms, I’d hire it out though 😂

I hear ya. We're trying to get our house ready to put on the market in the spring. We spent the last two weekends painting our downstairs (it's an open floor plan, so really has to be done in one go) and we still have the upstairs to go. I was worn out and super sore at the end of each day, but I did find soaking with the tub with Epsom salts helpful.
We've got plenty of projects, so we have to pick and choose what we hire out. Plus, I can only take some many days off work to babysit contractors. The tile guys screwed up the grout, so we already lost time with them when they had to come out to repair it.

I repainted the entire first floor of my house 12 yrs. ago. My kids were very little and my husband traveled a lot. When the kids were little, we were much less busy, and with my husband on a trip, I didn't have to worry about keeping up with the house and his laundry. Now it's much harder for me to paint! And the problem is all the prep work!
