Sweetiebugs, at least you have a decent brand. I told dh to go ahead a pick out our new fridge. OMG I hate it. It's bottom of the barrel and at first he was pleased with himself with all the money he saved. After a week, he regrets his decision. I shut my mouth and said nothing but I won't let him pick the next appliance without me LOL!

peabrain, my DH is the strangest example of elitism with consumer goods. He grew up poor in a arm pit stain town and his parents are very frugal with money (however, that has led them to be able to live comfortably in retirement--but still frugal--so I'm very happy for them). DH values Consumer Reports ratings but also doesn't like when they downgrade an item because it is more expensive then the other brands/models available.
The Dyson vacuum was something he pressured me into buying 14 years ago. I never liked it and finally replaced it about 3 years ago with a Shark from Costco. Sometimes I like buying the middle of the pack priced item so that you can replace it later and not feel like you are wasting a lot of money. My experience has shown that I can't stand the smell of a vacuum after a few years and will want to replace it (although my track record shows I keep with them as I'm 52 and have only had 3 vacuums since I was 21).
