Long story short, I let DH pick out and purchase a new dishwasher after ours suddenly died. He was so insistent on replacing it immediately and went looking at new ones the next day. I was busy and stressed at that moment and I let him wear me down to just saying "I'm okay with you picking it out". I didn't realize he was going to get on the phone that very instant and purchase it without at least giving me a model number to look at (turns out he didn't even have the model number).
So, it arrived. I can't get our dishes to fit in it in any type of efficient configuration, there is a 3rd top rack and things don't seem to get all the way clean there and the controls are on the top inside (hidden) and I don't like that.
It is a Bosch 878 and cost $1350 after installation. It was installed on Friday afternoon. Is it crazy if I call the store tomorrow and ask what it will cost for me to exchange it?? I could just suck it up and deal with a dishwasher I really don't like for 10 years or take a hit now (probably at least $300 for the deinstallation and return assuming they will even let me do that) and get one I like better. I feel bad because I did say I was fine with letting him decide, however, at the price, I'm not sure I can let it go.

A very similar story taught me to never utter those words again. Now, only the person that uses the appliance gets a say. That would be me.
I would try to get it switched out.

We have, but dh installed and uninstalled it himself. They gave us full credit towards a different model.

I’ve a Bosch 800 and didn’t like it in the beginning but live it. Yes itdoes take some time figuring out how to load it. I like that the rackswith my unit are adjustable
I give my dishes a quick rinse and scrap. If you let something dry in the a bowl, soak it first to soften the food. Don’t completely clean the dishes before loading. Use “auto” and “extra dry” settings. Always use a rinse aid.
I’ve never returned or traded in an appliance so I can’t answer your questions.

That's too bad that you don't like it. I love my Bosch with the 3rd rack. It was one of the reasons I picked it. It cleans amazingly well and is so quiet. I've never returned a dishwasher so I'm not sure what to do in your case.

I hate the Bosch I have.
None of my dishes fit in the bottom rack right. They lean together, so no water gets between them. And the damn thing runs for 2 hours! I wash the my dishes and then put them in and run it on express wash.

I would exchange it. I wouldn't ask because that would give them an opportunity to say "no". I'd tell them that I have to exchange my dishwasher that was installed on Friday. What do I need to do to accomplish that.
I would think they'd be ok with you doing that.
We have a Bosch. It's our second one. We love it. Ours does have the 3 racks. It came with a utensil holder on the main level. I removed that immediately as I use the 3rd rack. Ours will run for a couple of hours if I program it to do that. Otherwise when I set it to run I will use the 60 minute cycle. It works for us.

OP, I think I have the same dishwasher as you and while I did help pick it out with my dh, I absolutely HATE it. Problem after problem. I can't wait until it dies so we can get a new one. (I will say, though, that I love that third rack.) This dishwasher just doesn't clean well, and I can see where the problem with certain dishes fitting in the bottom rack can be frustrating. Like someone mentioned above, the regular cycle takes about 2 hours. I, too, rinse (practically wash) the dishes first and use the express setting instead, which takes 30-40 min.

I did. DH bought the Fisher & Paykal dish drawers about 12 years ago when we moved into our new house.
They were very expensive & THEY SUCKED.
Any food that was on the dishes got trapped in these little screens in the bottom and you had to clean it out after every wash or it would stay wet and STINK. GROSS! None of the dishes go clean unless you put them in spotless to start with. It never really got hot and the dishes were sopping wet after a full cycle including heated "dry". They were terrible!
He got it from Lowes and made them come out and pick it up and bring us a new GE Profile one. It was MUCH, MUCH better! It lasted for about 10 years and I just had to replace it with another GE Profile two years ago.
Don't feel bad about it... there's no way to know until you use it. Darn it! Hope you can get it all worked out!

I had a friend drive a car almost a month and hated it the whole time. She was able to exchange it at the dealership to get what she she liked better. Surely if you can do that with a car, you can do it with a dishwasher!

I would have your DH take care of it. And until then, he can try to load the dishes in. If he was so hot to trot to get it, then I would most certainly let him have the fun of undoing it!

I love my Bosch dishwasher! I hope you can get what YOU like though. I got the Bosch with the speed perfect setting and as long as you have rinse aid in it (or water to trick it) it takes 1.5 hours on that setting which is shorter than the regular cycle. We live in a dry climate so I open the dishwasher for a few minutes to let the plastic dry a bit before unloading. I love that since it doesn't have a heat element in the bottom plastics and other delicate items can go in the bottom rack without melting. Ours also has a salt dispenser as a water softener, adjustable middle rack for height, and adjustable sections (tines go down) on all the racks. I use all those features often, but maybe others don't.
The only problem we have had is with the cords breaking that work to keep door from dropping down. We have to hold the door and lower it down or it will drop. In order to fix that, the dishwasher has to be uninstalled so we are just holding the door for now. It is a bad design with a rope pulley in there that can wear out.
If you are having trouble with the dishes coming clean be sure to take out and WASH the FILTER in the bottom. They told me that was important to do!

SweetieBugs what did you end up doing? Will they take it back?

The return was going to cost 15% restocking fee, plus a removal fee plus a new installation fee so a little over $400. That coupled with the difficulty I would have getting DH to be okay about the return and another day of playing around with dish placement made me conclude that I will make do with this one. It will never be as efficient in space as our old one and will require different strategies with different combinations of dishes to load but I'll adjust I guess. Really, it came down to my words to my DH that I would let him decide. I'm the one that made the mistake with that but I can't see spending over $400 to right that. The dishwasher is still a good one as far as I can tell.
I think I just need to buy a set of very small dishes so everything will fit nicely!! That would probably be good on the waist line as well.

I've returned a fridge and a dishwasher. And funnily enough, both times because I made the mistake of letting my then H pick them out. The dishwasher was supposed to be a great deal because he worked for GE and got all GE appliances. It was horrid. I do not believe they charged a restocking fee or I would never have been able to get another one. The fridge broke after we returned from Europe and I insisted on going to look for one with him - and our three young, exhausted kids. We were all too tired. I picked one and my ex said it was too expensive and picked another (couple hundred less). It was so loud and horrible that I switched it out. I just had to pay the difference, plus the delivery fee. It wasn't a lot.
I just replaced my DW after 18 years. It was great. Fridge is still going strong.
Can you youtube the model and see if they can pack it better? Sometimes that is helpful.

we have a Samsung with the top rack. when we first installed it, we couldn't get our dinner plates to fit. I felt sick that we had made this mistake, and the racks didn't seem adjustable. turns out they were, and everything was fine after that. is your second rack adjustable, if that's what's causing the problem? I love the 3rd rack, we basically paid another $100 for it over the lesser model, but it's great. our controls are hidden too but I like the cleaner look of it.

I put all the plates along the back on left side and cereal type bowls on back right in the tines, 1 silverware basket on back right in empty space, tines down on right front for large pans or bowls, extra small plates or large bowls can go on front left. We have large plates so middle rack is adjusted up a bit for that. HTH
I've found that stuff going on top rack cannot have food stuck on it or it doesn't come clean so I rinse those first.

I've adjusted the top rack (really the middle rack) up a bit to have clearance on the bottom for the cutting boards and dinner plates. It is mostly the bowls that I am still having trouble with because the tines are all so tall that my bowls don't fit down over them very well. I have to use every other tine for the bowls and even then they don't rest down so they stick up and nest together somewhat. I think "pasta bowl" style would work best in this dishwasher. Unfortunately, 3 of my 4 dish sets have "rice bowl" or similar shape instead.
So, the main problem is (1) that the tines are a few inches too tall for bowls and (2) the configuration of the rows. This dishwasher has one row in the back that runs from the left side to the right side (up against the utensil holder that runs along the right side) and then two half rows that run from front to middle of the dishwasher. It would be far more efficient to have two rows running from left to right instead of these odd half rows. Essentially, wherever I place my dinner plates, I have to position very small dishes in the row next to it or perpendicular to it as there isn't enough clearance to place anything else.
I also really hate the controls on the top and would never buy this style again. I've activated the buttons (pads really) over and over again while just opening or closing the dishwasher and I don't like not seeing readily if the dishwasher is on or if the load is completed.
I'll get over it in the long run. Sure would be a lot happier if this money was used on a new washing machine or fridge. Those are the two that I'm really wanting to break down:)

It sounds like we may have the same model. I don't recall my number.
Remove the silverware holder. Use the top rack. Once you start to use it you'll love it.
I also take advantage that the darker tines fold down. So if I have something a little larger I will fold those down if they are in the way.
Once you press start it goes. It's so quiet you won't hear it. At the end once you've emptied it you have to press stop or the lights continue to blink. Kinda annoying but that's what it does.
Hope this helps!

I have a Bosh about a year after owning it I realized that you can adjust the rack height. After I did that I didn’t have a problem getting anything to fit inside my dish washer. Here is a video I found. Hope this helps. I love my Bosh. m.youtube.com/watch?v=7dwX7j5QfuY

ugh, that rack configuration does sound like it sucks! hopefully removing the silverware caddies help, tho it won't solve your bowl issue. our bowls are shallower, but I can see how we'd have an issue with deep, straighter-side bowls too.

Those are the two that I'm really wanting to break down:) I have a Bosch and it is a love-Hate relationship for me. I love how quiet it is and how clean it gets the dishes. I HATE how 90% of my bowls don’t fit in the bottom. I have Fiestaware and the only bowls that work in the bottom racks are the wide-rimmed soup bowls. All the other regular fiesta bowls (other than small fruit bowls) are too deep to fit in the bottom configuration. Finally, mine actually does have the buttons on the front of the panel, but after 4-5 years, all the lettering for the buttons is almost completely worn off, so I can only tell what I’m selecting because I have it memorized. Someone else would have no clue what they were selecting. So, as far as Bosch goes, you might not really want the buttons on the front, because they didn’t do that well at all.

If you do think about buying new dishes, corelle fit nicely in the dishwashers. Plus, they hold up well. Mine are a little over 18 years old. The pattern is still perfect, no scratching on the dishes and some have been dropped and never broke! Bonus for me is they're thin for storing in the cupboard and fit perfectly in the newer dishwasher we bought.

Corelle bowls don’t fit in the tines. Bosch just isn’tmade for bowls on the bottom. I put bowls in front of the row of tunes.
