We went and looked at the house today with the realtor. Really looked, like moving things and opening cabinets, etc.
The house is over-priced for having sat over a year for sale.
I originally thought the ridge on the metal roof had been damaged by a tree limb - nope, somehow the roof moved, the foam that keeps water from going under the ridge shifted, and water got into the roof. There was a massive water mark inside. Repairs needed: tear off ridge and that section of metal roof, replace damaged roof material, possibly remove and replace drywall.
The basement is carpeted and had a dehumidifier running, but the tank was full. The entire basement felt wet and one of the rooms reeked of cat urine. Repairs needed: possibly none, but possibly all carpet (1500sf) removed and replaced, at the very least bleaching or Kilz in the smelly room.
The kitchen floor is tile and I originally just thought it was old, in bad shape. Nope, when you walked halfway into the space, the floor started sloping and in front of the refrigerator, you could see it moving. Repairs needed: removal of entire tile floor in kitchen/dining area, removal and replacement of subfloor, either removal and replacement of or adding additional support to support beams.
My dh is a structural engineer and estimated that we were looking at at least $30,000 in repairs.
And we would have done it. We would have low-balled the offer because the realtor said the seller just needed to be done with the house, kept our current place until the repairs were done. But I said "no" because of the effects MS has already had on my body. I had no problems going up the stairs, but I got nauseous starting to go down them because of the steepness. I was afraid I was going to have to ask for help. I wouldn't be able to use half of the house if we bought it.
This is the first time since I was diagnosed in 2012 that I feel that MS has me, instead of the other way around.
