Now that it's just dh and ods I'm back to dinner for two. That means that I need to put on my thinking cap. Unfortunately, it is way too big for my small head today. So, maybe I'll make grilled chicken sandwiches. I could also make turkey sandwiches w/roast turkey. Even better.
What's on your menu?
Oh, I didn't answer the scrapping question from the other day. I have a scrap room and have been getting the urge to go back to scrapping. It's been quite a while.
Have an enjoyable day. Safe journeys back home, cadoodlebug .

It's Friday and that means DH will be home tomorrow. One last evening of cooking just for me for the time being. Actually, I'm not sure when the next time I'll be cooking just for me will be, as my sister arrives in 10 days so there will be extra people in the house until Christmas, except when we are travelling!
I have decided to make paella for dinner - I will make enough that I will have plenty for lunch tomorrow as well.
For those who were wondering after my Wednesday post, here is a picture of an Alscace Flammkuchen. This is the 'original', though you can get them with many different toppings.

Grandma is taking dd#2 to a shindig tomorrow night so they are getting their nails done this afternoon ... Grandma has invited herself over for dinner Grandma is like a little kid when it comes to food so I can't serve anything "weird" So I'll be making beef stew with baking powder biscuits ... it was originally her recipe (or probably my Grandma's) but she admits that my stew is better than hers ... probably because I make it with flavour AussieMeg, the recipe that I made the other day that didn't go over well was balsamic baked chicken breast with mozzarella cheese ... I thought it was good but no one else did Those of you that think I need Dodger in my life should know that my dh barely puts up with the two cats we already have ... he would have a conniption if I brought another cat home ... that's why I volunteer ... so that I get my cuddles in without bringing them all home

Yay sueg !! I grew up eating paella and made it a time or two as an adult, but not in a long time. I have booked my flight to your home. I'll also be in your house until Christmas!!!! Other than that, road time later today and through the weekend, so I'm not sure what's on tap other than grilling. Dd has some friends in town to stay at our house to watch the ancient cat and use our Netflix and eat our pretzels. They will be forbidden to enter the arrow room! Thanks for the thread. May the mighty son of our Great Leader thrive during his sophomore year!

I made my "autumn soup" today. Autumn is definitely here (it's been chilly since mid-August and the leaves are turning), and since DD has a cold, soup seemed like a good choice. DS is leaving for Poland on Monday. Did he remember to ask me to go to the bank to get zloty? No, he did not. At least not until after closing hours. Was he fretting? Yes, yes he was. (I knew he was going, so I guess I could have done it without waiting for him to ask me, but this is part of growing up, sweetie, mommy dearest isn't going to be at your beck and call). I let him sweat for half an hour before telling him he can buy currency at the airport (even at that ungodly hour they need to be there) and that he should go to the ATM and get euros and then exchange them when he arrives in Poland. Maybe next time he will remember to ask me nicely well in advance......

Yay sueg !! I grew up eating paella and made it a time or two as an adult, but not in a long time. I have booked my flight to your home. I'll also be in your house until Christmas!!!! My sister and I are going to take a cooking class in Barcelona to learn how to make paella properly, but my current recipe is pretty close, and tastes good anyway! My sister and I are hardly going to be home while she is here. We head to Spain and France 5 days after she arrives, and from then on, we are here for laundry days every 2-3 weeks, until Dec 21 when her partner and 2 kids arrive. It is going to be so much fun, if we don't send each other crazy!

Hahaha leannec - "...probably because I make it with flavour." hahahahahahahahaha DH and I have become friendly with a cashier at the grocery store. She’s a sweet lady. When I went in last Saturday she told me I was late. I explained that I was actually a day early and was there to buy stuff to make beef stew. I tell her that I cook food with flavor. Dh just cooks food to fill the void. I’m eating lunch right now and have no idea about dinner but suspect it will be takeout from somewhere.

I still scrapbook. I have a nook at the top of the stairs with 2 tables, drawers, and shelves. Plus the pc and my camera/printing gear.
I made 3.5 layouts 3 weeks ago and am going to scrapbook this weekend.

Tonight will probably be some sort of prepared food from the Fruit and veg market. I am buying the things I need to make pot roast tomorrow. I had a craving for it the other day, and I am going to satisfy that craving! Other than that, we are staying home tomorrow. After 2 weekends in a row of travel with a cold in between, we need some rest and some TV time! I have a list of shows on Netflix, Prime and Hulu that we want to check out, plus the new network shows we want to check out.

scrappintoee - I'm so sorry I didn't respond to your tag a few days ago.. Life has gotten in the way and this is the first day I've been on here since then. Again, super sorry Yes, huge fans of Mercy Me and Casting Crowns!!!! We've seen them both in concert a couple of times. Would love to CC again, but they rarely make it close to my neck of the woods. We're planning on buying tickets to see Mercy Me and Crowder this coming April in Portland!!! We just saw Plumb and Unspoken in concert on Tuesday... So good! Are you a fan of them? I have leftover cheese and corn tortillas from last week so I think I'll do cheese enchiladas with homemade sauce. Will make Mexican rice to go with them. ETA- Black bean, corn and cheese filled enchiladas!

I've got a turkey breast in the oven now and will be having that with mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, corn and rolls. Sort of a mini Thanksgiving. Thinking of a Cherry Crisp for dessert. This way dinner is made for the entire weekend with leftovers lol

Here it is Friday night and I realize I've not made dinner at all this week. We've been fending every night. Tonight's dinner will be semi-homemade courtesy of Omaha Steaks. We're trying their Chicken in Pastry and I'll add a salad and veggie to that.
I know I'm a day or two late, but I for what it's worth: I no longer scrapbook, but I still make cards and probably make about 30-40 a year. I'm still on the fence about joining the Christmas card exchange. I love it, but my life is really full right now.
sueg, your sister trip sounds awesome. What fun!
Happy weekend to all and may it be restful.

It's Friday, I am not cooking! My sentiments exactly! Lizard's Thicket, here we come, carbs and calories be damned! I'm getting chicken strips, mashed taters & gravy, baby limas, and a slice of apple pie for dessert. Hubs is on his own and will probably get fish of some kind.

scrapmaven I’ve been getting the scrapping urge again lately too. I haven’t scrapped much the last three years because of grad school and other random things. I did do December daily last year and have already bought the Elle’s Studio kit for this year. Amazingly I’m only about a year and a half behind on my chrono albums. I have an entire craft room going unused lately. Tonight going to In The Raw for sushi with a friend and then going to see The House With A Clock in its Walls after. Have a good weekend everyone!!!

Tonight going to In The Raw for sushi with a friend and then going to see The House With A Clock in its Walls after. Have a good weekend everyone!!! Come back and tell us how you like the movie. I've read the book and many of my students have read it recently too. The movie was filmed about 10 miles from my house. The studio painted a huge Victorian house BLACK and then after the movie painted it again in the original colors. I'm curious to see how long the exteriors of that house are in the movie.

leannec that looks really good! What's not to love? Chicken, balsamic vinegar, baked cherry tomatoes, CHEESE! I might have to try that one myself. If you liked it then it must have been good - I'd take your word over that of your fussy family! I planned to make carbonara tortellini then DD said her boyfriend was going to come over for dinner, and there wouldn't have been enough. So DD also made a sundried tomato and pepperoni penne. I also made a focaccia in my Thermomix. I'm very happy with this recipe, it turned out great and it was so easy. The only thing I'd do differently next time is brush is with olive oil before it went in the oven, because the salt and rosemary didn't stick very well to the top. Oh, and I used my very special and much loved gold salt! You can't quite see it in the above photo, here's a close up: Still not very clear, you'll just have to take my word for it - it looked very faaaaaancy! And is there anything better than hot fresh bread with lashings of butter? I've been on holidays all week so I've had plenty of time to cook. Only problem is I've spent more time on the internet and Photoshop than I have in the kitchen. Nevertheless I did have time to whip up another one of our favourites: Mint Chunk Rocky Road(Photo not mine)

Oh, and sueg, I need some suggestions from you please...... DS has to make a 2 course German meal on Sunday night for an assignment in his German class. What would be your suggestions for a (not particularly interested in cooking or schoolwork) 14yo boy to make? Schnitzel would be the obvious and easy choice, but we had that the other night so I want him to try something different.

I made grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner. My DS had his new girlfriend over for dinner, I did not know she was coming or I would have made something nicer. I ate half an apple, but I should get some more protein in before I go to bed so I will drink a protein shot. Jen

Schnitzel would be the obvious and easy choice, but we had that the other night so I want him to try something different. Well, the really obvious idea to me is wurst - sausages! You could go really simple with grilled bratwurst, served with fries and sauerkraut, or try the wonderful Berlin creation of Currywurst. It is either a steamed pork sausage or a version of the Bratwurst, sliced and spiced with curry ketchup. Then some curry powder sprinkled on top. I like it best with a red bratwurst, which tastes rather like a typical Aussie hotdog, but you could use any type of easily available sausage - pork is traditional here. It is traditionally served with fries. I can't think of much else that is easy. Pork roast is very common, but usually served with potato dumplings which are not easy to make - I buy my premade. I'm also mainly familiar with Bavarian food, which - to be honest - is what most people think of when they think of German food. Dessert. One option would be Rote Grütze, a red fruit compote - berries, cherries, red currants, cooked and lightly thickened with cornflour, then served with vanilla sauce (custard). Another is my all time favourite, Kaiserschmarrn. This is thick pancakes, sometimes with sultanas in them, ripped into 2cm pieces as it finishes cooking. You pile all the pieces on a plate, sprinkle with icing sugar and serve with either an apple or apricot compote.
