Do you get free audio books and if so, from where? If you pay for them, what is your preferred vendor?
I am thinking of getting a couple audio books to see how I like it, but don't want to pay for a subscription in case I find out I don't. Any leads or suggestions aould be great.
Thank you.

You can get free audio books from your library. Mine has an on-line library where I can check out audio books.
I also have a subscription to Audible.

I recently added my daughter’s library card (from another state) to my Libby account and have so many books to choose from I’m considering cancelling my membership for awhile. Can’t beat free.

Just download the Libby/Overdrive app (they are similar and access the same libraries). You can search for the library that you belong and register your card. You can change your preference to search only for audio books. It depends on the library system, but you can borrow the book for 2-3 weeks.

I use the Overdrive (which I believe is now Libby) app to get free audio books from my library. You need a current library card to access the books.
I also am a member of audible.com - the membership includes one audio book (of my choosing) a month.

Also, if you have Amazon Prime, you can get alot of really inexpensive audio books. Many times they will have a deal where if you buy the kindle version for .99, then you can buy the audible version for $1.99 on certain books. Not on best sellers, that's what I use my audible credits for, but you can still pick up some pretty good books at a great price.
But first I would check some out from the library for free to see if you like listening to books that way. It's the only way I find time to read (on my commute to work) so I love them.

I mostly use Audible. I don't go through audio books really fast though, so I subscribe to Audible for a few months then pause/cancel until i am ready for more.

My library has a crap selection of audiobooks so I've been using Audible for several years. I have the 2 books per month plan. I've recently discovered Scribd and I love it! For $8.99/mo you have unlimited access to audibooks, ebooks, digital newspapers, and magazines. It works somewhat like Apple Music, where you have access to the content as a subscriber, but it's not yours to keep if you cancel. You can download the books to your device to listen/read offline. Their audiobook selection is good - I would say I was able to find 90% of the books in my Audible cart and Wish List on Scribd. I listen mostly to current best-sellers. Like with Audible, you can get a free 1 month trial subscription.
