Our elementary school does a 5K run fundraiser every year. My 6 year old ran the 5K, even though they also have a 1K fun run. He ran the entire time and took 2nd place in his grade! In fact, he finished 97th out of more than 600 runners of all ages. As a runner myself, I just love it!

Now you can tell him that people in England have heard of his achievement and are proud of him!

That is awesome! I am curious................how does the school have a 5K fundraiser? Do they have to work with the city to have streets shut down like most runs or do they only run at a track? It doesn't seem like they could only run at a track if they have 600 runners.

It doesn't seem like they could only run at a track if they have 600 runners. They don't fully shut down streets, but they do close off one lane for the runners and they have police holding/directing traffic at intersections. We don't have a track at our elementary school, though there is a loop they use for the mile run testing and for cross country meets, but it would wear out the grass areas with that many runners. The race route mainly follows neighborhood streets that loop around the school, so it makes it easier to handle the temporary lane closures.
