For those of you that create premade layouts, how does that work? Do you wait until you find photos that match the layout? What happens if you have too many or not enough photos? What about titles? Just trying to understand how this works. Thanks!

Thanks for asking - I was curious as to how that would work also.

I just saw 950nancy mention using pre-made layouts in another thread so maybe she's the best person to ask...?

Just trying to understand how this works. Thanks! My premed layouts have pretty general titles. I wait until I find pictures to match. I have lots of them for holidays, birthdays, summer, and boys. I also find that I can change up a title easily with thickers or smaller stickers to add or change a title. Most of them are two pagers and have at least four to eight photos on the layout. Oftentimes I don't put down a mat until I have the picture so I can change the orientation. Then I got smart and started taking a horizontal and vertical of each shot so I knew I would have picture. Too many pictures? I'll pick my favorites or cut down two 4 x 6s to fit on a 4 x 6 mat. If a set of pictures won't work, I just make a new layout.

i used to make premade pages all the time back in the day, somewhere around 2008-2009 i think. i still have some of them! most of them aren't my style at all now, mostly due to ugly product lol, but every once in awhile i'll pull one out and see what magic i can work on it. even now i sometimes get the urge to play with no pressure, so i'll make some pages.
generally i don't put on any title or embellishments, mine are strictly paper layers. HTH!

scrapperal I was watching a new YT channel that another Pea linked where the crafter pre-makes pages using cutting plans to make the best use of collection packs. She specifically doesn't share her photos online, so they're just embellished layouts with pieces of paper in place of the photos. I asked her about what she does with them, whether she makes them with specific photos in mind, or just makes a stack for later, thinking of this thread. She said she does sometimes have photos in mind but often she just makes the pages in advance based on how many photos she typically takes for an event and then adds photos later, or she lets her kids choose a page they like to complete with photos. I thought that was a pretty cool idea. (I don't have kids, don't know if you do, but in theory, a good gateway into crafting!)

I buy pre-designed layouts all the time now. I found I wasn't scrapbooking really anymore because of lack of inspiration. So pre-designed layouts have kept me going at it. I will just create the layouts & not put pictures or picture boxes on until I have pictures. I leave areas where I may tuck photos without adhesive. It has worked out well for me.

I have about 150 premade layouts...works really well for me...If I waited and tried to have photos before the layout, I would get nothing done...I have such a wide selection of themes colors and areas on layouts for as many photos,,,I always am able to match them up..scrapbook generation has been my go to for many of these layout,,,enjoy the ease of creating this way...my hubby made me a mock scrap rack (like the totally Tiffany one),,and all my layouts are in there,,,then I will order in bulk photos online at a deal price(i used york for 270 of them),,and then matched them up...the best part is I get the same satisfaction of creating this way..I still will do some layouts from scratch,,or do mini books so I am using a lot of my stash,,,but overall this keeps me happy

I define pre-made layout two ways.
One is actual kits that I buy. These are generally for holidays and are much more complex and creative than I could every be. They add a nice contrast to my home made pages.
The other pre mades are ones that I put together. I usually design and cut all my pieces ahead then put all of that into a big zip lock. Sometimes I have the pictures sometimes not. When I go to crops I pack a bunch of them and I'm ready to go. Works for me

I thought that was a pretty cool idea. (I don't have kids, don't know if you do, but in theory, a good gateway into crafting!) I do this for themed albums. I choose a collection (or make my own using co-ordinating papers) and pull embellishments to match. I cut the papers using cutting plans and assemble the pages. Then I add photos, then I add embellishments, titles, journaling etc.

I make pre-made layouts following sketches but do NOT put embellishments or titles on them, so they're not totally completed. I make pretty 'generic' layouts as far as the colors/patterns go, knowing I'll usually be able to customize it more later. I leave a space for a title, and keep the sketch with the pages in a zipper bag, or in an Iris box. I do a lot of southwest-themed travel layouts, so I'll use those kinds of colors, or I'll make layouts with blues/greens, for outdoor-type photos.
In general, I stick everything down with VERY tiny bits of ATG adhesive, so I can lift things up later if I need to rearrange. I also put those tiny bits of adhesive in the the MIDDLE of the photo mat (as an example)... that way if I do need to move things around, I'm not risking ripping any paper that I might have to cover up later (as opposed to putting the adhesive on the very outside edge of the mat). Once I get the final arrangement, if I had to move anything, THEN I'll add more adhesive.
Since I make 'generic' layouts that aren't totally complete, after I add the photos, THEN I do the embellishing and 'finishing' phases. This way, I let the photos inspire my final embellishments and I can add a title that fits with the photos. (and sometimes I don't add a typical 'title' at all, if it's obvious what's going on in the pictures-- I don't like having to think of 'witty' or 'catchy' page titles.) I just add a few words / phrases into my embellishment clusters, and leave a space for journaling, or I add labels to the individual photos.
and since the pre-made pages weren't totally complete, I can add more photos pretty easily if I want by rearranging photo mats, etc.-- or I will make a 6x12 or 12x12 pocket page to put in between the 2-pg layout. For pocket pages, I'll find additional papers that coordinate to use for the pocket page and add bits of those papers onto the main layout. Or I will sacrifice a photo mat, etc. from the main layout to use on the pocket page to help coordinate the pocket page with the main 2-page layout.
if I don't have ENOUGH photos for the pre-made layout, I can use the extra photo mat as journaling space, add extra embellishments, add a 4x6 card, etc.

Hopefully someone else will share if they know. I'm not even sure what to call this for searching. You could probably ask the YTer and see if she can point you to any others who do this kind of thing (shrug - would that seem rude? I'm not sure)

I never ever make layouts with a photo in mind. ( probably because I have worked on DT for the last 15 years, and you always have to use the product supplied. ) Often I will get 3/4 through a layout, and think, yeah that photo will work....so pull it out and finish it off with a title that fits etc. I actually have quite a vast number that just require photos added....just need some time to get that done. Its the organising of printing thats a fag !!! Some layouts will be totally finished with a generic title , others will have no title, so I can add that once the photo is chosen. I make a lot of different layout styles, with various photo sizes. I often put a mat to save the place.
Yes Shimelle does have a class where she takes one sole action and makes oodles of layouts from it. Return to the collection ....I think was its name
