I refuse to. I like Roseanne. She made the show. Firing her was ridiculous. Don't get me wrong though she was out of line doing what she did. Hollywood is so hypocritical. When it comes down to it it was a political move. It gave them a reason to get rid of another republican actress. There have been many people who have done similar things but didn't get the same treatment. I'm getting to the point of not watching tv anymore. I am very selective on which movies I watch. This country is so divided it's insane. I honestly do not want to start anything and I am commenting because I don't 100% disagree with you. Hollywood is clearly very left-wing. What troubles me is not that she was fired, because her comment was one in a long line of OTT comments, but that others seem to get away with similar things and are not fired. So my question to you jstblondie is - do you think Roseanne's comment was racist? If so, do you think she should not have been fired because others say and do bad things and are ignored? If that is the situation, then I would have to say I do agree with you. You should not be able to pick and choose who to fire based on political idealism. However, I think all the people saying racist things or who have been found to prey on women (or for that matter, men) should be fired as well. I guess I am saying that I don't disagree with the firing, but I agree that it should be taken further and include everyone regardless of their political beliefs. I am trying to say this without any fire in me (I don't have any) and really to get your opinion on this.

The other actor that comes to mind who did that was Isaiah Washington on Grey's Anatomy. He made a homophobic slur, he lost his spot on the show and his career tanked as he just does guest spots on shows now, no series regular.

I really enjoyed it. I always thought the supporting cast is what made the show, and that Roseanne was just an obnoxious figurehead (I thought the same of Seinfeld...minus the obnoxious part ). I'm glad it's back and hope it does well.

This country is so divided it's insane. There are plenty of Republican actors/actresses who successfully work in Hollywood. She said blatantly racist things - more than once. Maybe a few years ago it would have been overlooked with an apology, but not today. They had no choice but to fire her. To answer the OP - I did watch, and really enjoyed it. When Jackie made the comment at the end that she didn't want to leave, it made me cry. Jackie was great the whole episode with the triangle and all that. As for John Goodman, he didn't look great I thought. I'm hoping they were just trying to hide the weight loss and make him look like he was in mourning.

I was pretty shocked by John Goodman’s appearance. I knew he had lost more weight, but the last time I saw him on The Today Show he didn’t look that small. Yes he lost quite a bit. I saw him on GMA too and I think he got fillers in his face which is why he looked different from the show. I thought DJ looked old. he's only 36 in real life, but his face just has aged quite a bit. www.goodhousekeeping.com/health/diet-nutrition/a19632518/john-goodman-weight-loss/Oh maybe that’s it. Makes sense for the drastic change in appearance.

No.
But I have tangents!
Tangent #1: My son lives in Hollywood. Last week, we played tourist and went on a Warner Brothers studio tour. When our tram drove by the The Conners building, the actress who plays Darlene was standing right in front, wearing her costume, making a phone call. Now brace yourselves for my inside information: her costume was jeans and a plaid flannel shirt.
Tangent #2: I adore Laurie Metcalfe. At the risk of starting a whole thang, it was just announced that she will play Hillary Clinton on Broadway next year. (John Lithgow will play Bill Clinton.)

I enjoyed it.. thought it was well played out. I do think it was weird that it didn't begin or end with her laugh.. That just seemed weird to me.

Did you notice that Darlene sat in her chair, with Becky beside her? With the plot, I thought that maybe Jackie would play a bigger role and sort of replace Roseanne, but it looks like Darlene will be the true replacement. I loved the kitchen work triangle. Very funny and relevant with all the HGTV shows now. I thought the beginning of the episode was stilted and it almost seemed like the actors were off to the side, came in to do their line, then left. There just didn't seem to be a lot of flow. I wonder if they took a previously written episode and changed it up to add Roseanne's death? When they got to other subjects (work triangle, Mark's decision about who to sit with on the bus), it seemed to flow a lot better. Maybe they had to change the episode quickly to get production moving along? I loved Dan's interaction with Mark. A sort of, "I don't get it, but I love and support you." I think there are a lot of people of Dan's generation struggling with what to say and how to support their LGBTQ+ family members. When Jackie didn't want to leave... yeah. That was rough there.

being a racist can get you blacklisted in Hollywood - that is a known fact. Mel Gibson didn't work for about a decade after his antisemitic remarks when he was stopped for a DUI

he did look a bit unwell but who shocked me was Mary Steenbergen. wow. maybe i just haven't seen her in a while? I finally watched it. I enjoyed the remaining characters for the most part. YES! John Goodman did not look good at all. I do hope he is all right. I really like him as an actor and he’s one of the reasons I watch the show. I do hope he is all right. Laurie Metcalf was so good. Her scene with Darlene in the kitchen was so poignant. Such a contrast to Roseanne Barr who couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. She always seemed to be looking off to the side at cue cards and delivered her lines a stand up comic. And Mary Steenbergen! I almost didn’t recognize her. She looked so puffy or something. Very odd. Estelle Parsons looked good, but was that the gal that played Crystal sitting in the kitchen? I got interrupted several times while watching it and I must’ve missed something. I couldn’t make up my mind if that was her or not. All in all I thought is was good. I’ll watch more episodes if only to see Dan and Jackie.

Laurie Metcalf is so good! That kitchen scene was the best part of the whole episode. it made me think of how would be if i lost my sister and that moment said it all. it was perfect. and John Goodman is usually great in anything i've seen him in. i loved him in that Amazon or Netflix series about the politicians. he also has a new show coming to HBO. a comedy about rich televangelists and he plays the patriarch. it looks good.

i haven't watched yet but i know the premise
i was hoping we'd have a sitcom deal with the opioid crisis and how it affects the average family
all we got was - roseann is taking too many painkillers to dead
none of the in between
and it's the 'in between' that so many families, like the connors, are living with
gina

I enjoyed it so much. I loved Roseanne when it first started but As he years went on, she just got more and more Unhinged and bizarre.
John Goodman lost a TON of weight. Wondering if it for a role in a movie?
I love Laurie Metcalf and she was stellar in this episode. She makes the show with or without Roseanne.
I really don't love Emma Kennedy as Harris. I'm not sure,..she just seems wooden to me.
Going to be an interesting season.

I like how it touches on not being able to afford prescriptions

I like how they addressed it. They addressed addiction and cost of needed medication etc. I probably wouldn't watch a sitcom on opioid crisis because I don't find that to be "sitcom" material.

I watched it. I wasn't going to. Didn't watch the reboot last year.
I hate the laugh track. It is too loud and not necessary. I think it makes everything they say sound dumb.
One thing I did like is no one looked pretty. They all looked like they aged. None of them well. Visually it felt real to me.
