For #17 I'm challenging you to get messy with some mixed media to make a textured element for your project. Glimmer paste, embossing paste, Stickles, Nuvo drops, or whatever else you can find. Maybe even draw designs with glue and add flocking or glitter onto it. So many ways to get creative and a bit messy! There are some great tutorials on-line for making your own pastes, and they all use basic supplies you likely have on hand such as corn starch or baby powder, glue, and acrylic paint. You can even mix in glitter to make it shine. Just Google "DIY texture paste". For my sample this week, I used Nuvo glimmer paste in Moonstone. The moonstone color isn't really a color, but more of a iridescent glimmering paste. I love it so much because you can add any color ink to it to achieve different looks. I smooshed a blue ink pad onto a piece of acetate and mixed some of my paste into it to get a soft blue color paste. I then spread the paste through a stencil to create a fun background. Doing this was a fun technique and actually made my card come together very easily. I felt the background is interesting enough that it made my little stamped image stand out without much more around it. Here's my sample, and I do hope you have fun getting a bit messy! I love the results of colouring that iridescent paste, lovestocreate. Love your card. The sugary stencilling goes perfectly with the ice cream cone and that sentiment. And thanks for the note on how you did it. I have coloured pastes by putting some on a mat then spritzing with inks, but have never done it simply using the ink pad on the mat first. Cool idea. (and my ink pads don't get annoyingly clogged like my spray bottles do...) I have some Christmas green Nuvo glitter paste, so no need to colour it, but it looked kinda stark against a white background, so I decided to add an ink component and stencilled some ink on the white cs before I applied the paste. It is drying now, so hopefully I can render it into a card later.

Ooh, this will be a challenge for me. I don't do much messy stuff. Thanks for the info about making texture paste - I had no idea. I don't like to spend much money on messy stuff because I know I won't use it very often. But your beautiful card makes me think it wouldn't be bad to invest in the Moonstone glimmer paste.
I guess I'll pull out my smock and get messy today! I might even try the Brushos and Distress resist spray that are sitting unopened on my table...

This is going to be more of a challenge for me, too. Your card is beautiful, lovestocreate! That irridescent shine and tint that you created really make your card stand out. I appreciate the tips you included, too, because I have not really tried mixed media before.

Here are my cards. I managed to get four of them with the pieces of cs I created using stencilled inks and then stencilled glitter paste on top. CT 17 Holly jolly by Gramma Dee, on Flickr

grammadee I love that you usually get several cards out of your experiments. There's lots of wonderful texture and shine on your cards. Adding the inky layer underneath to soften the white cardstock was a great idea. The layered holly is very cool.

A bit of digital textured glitter paste that I cannot remember how I achieved! However it was done it looks fab. I love seeing how you're able to render such things in digital format Jane

Here's a card I made last weekend that definitely has lots of texture. I used Faber-Castell's Glass Bead Glitter Gel to give my snow banks lots of sparkle and texture.

I mixed up some paste with the supplies I had on hand (I wanted to use this puffy snow recipe but I had white glue not mod podge, so I stuck with the basic recipe that doesn't puff. I had already stamped some of these snowy deer scenes so I tried out the goop on the big snowbank and it turned out pretty cool with a bit of glitter embossing powder sprinkled on top while it was wet. I was a bit worried about the paste and glitter flaking off so I made it into a very basic shaker. Thanks for sending me WAY out of my comfort zone! I used the paste to make a spooky moon for challenge 7 too, since I already had it mixed up. I love that this is something I can make in small batches without spending any money. (Unless I decide to buy some mod podge to make the puffy version!) I struggled with this one as I'm not a mixed media/getting messy sort. I tried the recipe joblackford linked since I had glue and baking soda and paint at home. I made a stencil using my cropadile (two different sized holes) with the idea of a snowy sky. It's drying now...it's okay but not something I'll do again. I'll add a picture once it dries

grammadee, your stenciled Christmas cards are gorgeous! JaneB, your digital glitter paste looks like I could touch it and really feel the texture. CoffeeCrafter, that is a very cute little snowman, but your snow bank is gorgeous. I now want to find Glass Bead Glitter Gel. joblackford, thanks for including a link. Your snow bank looks amazing, too. Linda, it's still a cute card, and I think the idea of using the mixture to make a snowy sky is creative. This was a learning experience for a lot of us. I know it was for me. I mixed some texture paste with ink, but it didn't turn out as red as I wanted. It ended up just looking kind of orange. Fortunately, I chose a brick stencil. I bought the texture paste at convention who knows how long ago. It was a pearlescent paste, and it turned out shimmery. I used some Nuvo drops at the top. That is a patterned paper base.

I'm part of the Save the Crafty YouTuber video hop taking place this week. I'm participating in tomorrow's day of the hop and will actually be demonstrating how I created the snow bank on this card. The video will be live on my YouTube channel (link in my signature) at 9am ET tomorrow (Oct. 25).

I absolutely LOVE your card, scrapnnana!! I grew up in Tennessee and there were lots of houses with more orangey looking bricks vs. red. Your card makes me think of home.
