I saw the Gaga/Cooper version with a group of girlfriends when it first came out and LOVED it. Came home and watched the Garland version and the Streisand versions. Still want to watch the original (they three prior versions are all on Amazon Prime). Then, I went back out and re-watched the Gaga version with DH.
There were two minor nitpicky things with the Gaga version that drove me a little batty...only because I can hear my dd (who is a vocalist) in my head telling me "that's not how it works mom". But, I never like to re-watch movies and I've already seen this one twice...I'm sure I'll watch it with dd when it comes to DVR.

Happy? Huh? If if I had been diagramming that sentence a million years ago under the stern gaze of a grammar nazi nun, I would have drawn two adjective lines under CONCERTS and none under PERFORMER. Consider yourself my virtual stern nun. No, silly. As much as I love Willie Nelson, and love him I do, it just makes me giggle to think of Lady Gaga sneaking in to one of his concerts to get a crowd scene. Like she couldn't pull a crowd on her own. The very idea has me sitting here giggling. Fun Fact that I'll have to try and find the interview, but the concert they interrupted for crowd was...Kris Kristoffersen. ETA: They also went on right before Willie at Coachella it looks like.

I LOVED the new A Star is Born! I want to go see it again. I listen to the soundtrack all the time. Bradley Cooper and Gaga were amazing! I ugly cried.
I went to see it with a group of women while on a scrapbook retreat this past weekend. The night before, we watched the Streisand version. It did not live up to my memories of the movie. Non of us liked it and Kris Kristofferson can not carry a tune to save his life. The Cooper/Gaga version was so much better in my opinion.

When she first came out and doing all that weird stuff, I wouldn't give her the time of day.. meat dress anyone? Swan/egg thing? Think of it as abstract art. Or... just close your eyes when she's in full gettup. (Works for me!) Me too. I'm a widow and that last song....

I haven't seen the movie yet, and (gasp!) don't remember seeing any of the earlier versions...I'm putting them on my list right now. But I look forward to seeing it, cause while I don't care for some of her out there stuff, she has got an amazing voice, and well, Bradley Cooper is just hot. Although the pictures of him with the scruffy look remind me of Rick from the Walking Dead! And side note that I haven't seen mentioned here yet - the band that played back up for Cooper in the movie is Willie Nelson's son (and his band). I caught a bit of Bradley Cooper when he was on The Tonight Show the other week.

I enjoyed the movie and think it's good entertainment. I'd recommend it. But if the award buzz that's been circulating about it actually comes to fruition, I'd be disappointed. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were both good, but not award-worthy IMO. I read the songs/song writing is what people were "buzzing" about.

I have not seen any version of this movie. But I think Bradley Cooper is a great actor and have heard such great things about Lady Gaga that I am looking forward to this one. Then I think I'll go back to see the older versions. I'm not a fan of Gaga's old look/act, but love that her talent is recognized regardless.

Count me as another who isn't that big of a fan of her music, but I did watch the documentary she did, and I've got hella respect for her work ethic. She's earned what she's got and makes darn sure if she's going to do a new project (like acting) that she's prepared and will bring her A game. I've heard the film is great, but having seen both the Garland and Streisand version I'm ok sitting this one out.

I never cared for Lady Gaga until I saw her and her mom on a talk show years ago. It might have been on Oprah. Anyway, Lady Gaga and her mom (who dressed conservatively) talked about how she had always been very different and liked to wear clothes that were very unique. She was shy and kids at school avoided her because she wore such weird clothes. It was really painful to hear. I'm usually quite skeptical of people (especially celebrities and politicians), but I felt like Lady Gaga and her mom were sincere.
Anyway, she refused to conform and kept being herself and eventually she became a star. I've always liked her since I saw that interview and it made me realize I sometimes judge people based on their looks, even though I like to think I don't.

I've seen this film twice now and loved it both times Lady Gaga is so talented ... actually, I can't think of anyone in the movie that didn't do an outstanding job

I have always thought that her over-the-top costumes and performances overshadowed her talent. She has an amazing voice and I think she is so pretty in a totally unconventional way.

i haven't seen the movie but i've seen the trailers. i must say, i have never seen her looking better than when she is just natural like that. i saw a snippet of her on late night TV when she was saying that natural look is not the real her. she prefers the totally dressed up look with the colored hair and lots of make up. that's a shame because i never realized how pretty she was until i saw her just natural. Reminds me of Dolly Parton and how she prefers the heavily made up, almost outrageous, look. Wish I could remember some of her quotes about it. dolly loves to say "it takes a lot of money to look this trashy".

I like Gaga as a person. I don’t care for her over the top schitch, and I’m glad it’s been toned way down lately. I do like some of her music, and will blast it in my car when the mood strikes. I was not wild about her as an actress in American Horror Story Hotel and Roanoke. Not sure if it was bad acting or shitty writing for her roles. I want to see A Star is Born so badly!

Just a FYI as someone who also saw and loved this remake: supposedly that photo of Babs and Gaga was taken when they were meeting re: Gaga playing Fanny Bryce in an upcoming remake of Funny Girl...

How was the movie? I’m a big fan of the Barbara Streisand version. I’m afraid Bradley won’t live up to Chris Kristofferson in my eyes. I know nothing of Gaga and her music, she’s not really my preferred genre. I love the Streisand/Kristofferson version and did not want to see the remake. But after watching several interviews and the commercials for it, I do want to see it now

I listen to the soundtrack all the time. I saw the movie this afternoon with a girlfriend and really enjoyed it. I carried a few kleenex with me based on what other friends had said about it, but they weren't needed. I didn't find it sad as in crying-sad. I experienced more as depressing -- the effects of addiction and that love can't always conquer all. It was well done. I came home and downloaded the soundtrack to my phone. I have a feeling I'm going to be listening to it on repeat for a good while now!

I agree. The scenes where she was very natural she was by far the most beautiful. And similarly, the songs that were the purest, sometimes raw emotion, little musical accompaniment were my favorite as well.

We both loved the movie. I read that it was filmed in 42 days but it took Bradley Cooper 3 years to get ready for the movie. He modeled his lower voice after Sam Elliott! I thought they all performed beautifully. DH and I didn't know much about Lady Gaga or her music so we were really impressed. Just wish we hadn't seen the previews so many times before we saw the movie.

I just watched 5’2 this week too and there’s this one weird scene where she’s sitting by the pool, pale as day, talking to 3 people and then takes her top off. Do we need to see her topless on camera? It’s not like she was tanning.

She is very talented musically and has a great voice but she is also an artist. She could no more give up her costumes and art pieces than she could give up singing. I can never wait to see what she does next. I don't like every single thing she does but I do like most of it.

I am old and I love Lady Gaga. I like all the weird things she does because she is just so talented. Her music is top drawer. I can't wait to see Star is Born, I knew she'd knock it out of the park. I forgot to add I saw the documentary and it is really good. This ^^

Tom said 'it sounds like a chick flick' but even though it's a love story, it really doesn't 'look' like a chick flick from the previews I've seen. I did hear that she's going to start a Las Vegas residency at the end of the year; I don't really know any of her pop music, but she's also going to be doing concerts with jazz standards, too- I'd love to see and hear her perform that music.
